  1. I spent the day on a delightful little island, Buyukada, that's about a 90 minute ferry ride from my home. It's full of renovated Victorian mansions, cars are forbidden, and tourism is down this year so we were especially welcome. We took a horse carriage ride around the place, had some sub par wine, generally enjoyed life. Couldn't have asked for more!

  5. There are all kinds of EL34. Some good and some better. A few years ago I acquired those EL34. Probably manufactured in Eindhoven Feb. 1951(left) and Feb. 1954(right).

  12. Incredible game and an amazing tournament in general. Always just a little easier when your team (Kansas in my case) gets beat by the eventual champion. But my goodness, did Nova ever completely dismantle and embarrass an outstanding Oklahoma team. They just got hot and played their best basketball all season long at the right time. Outstanding team defense with 10 hands and feet moving constantly. They did an incredible job at stopping the best player on each team they played down the stretch. Completely denied Perry Ellis the ball in the post against Kansas and held him to 4 points, then somehow shut down Hield and held him to 9 points, shadowing him everywhere he went... and then tonight did a great job on Brice Johnson, don't know how much he scored but he definitely wasn't as dominant as usual. I thought is was the smartest possible way to coach college basketball team. Just keep it simple. Don't let their best player beat us.

  17. I got caught up with the second season of "Better Call Saul" over the weekend. I really like it. Is it a better show than Breaking Bad? The fact that I can even consider the question is indicative of "Saul's" quality. The three leads here, Jimmy, Kim and Mike, are all fantastic and easy to root for, even though we know from "Breaking" that things are going to end up badly for at least two of them. Highly recommended so far. 4.5/5.

  18. I just returned from the Texas Mile. Unfortunately, I was not running this time as I wanted to test my car at the 1/4 mile before going WOT for a mile with the new build. DAMN...I've never seen more accommodating weather conditions. Friday was 20mph steady tailwind with gusts to 30mph. It doesn't get better than that...EVER. Shit. Anyhoo, saw some amazing things. A Ford GT in Gulf Oil livery beat his record and went 279.8mph...crazy. A nissan GTR went 255mph. Super neat car...had tire heaters. The driver was a big boy too...didn't stop him. Saw a guy go 255mph in a dayglow pink bike...can't make that up. Some amazing runs and incredible machines. Great people too. Sat and Sun weather was stunning. Damn I love that event. HS

  20. Will do. Is it a movie? Will figure out later. "I (Who Have Nothing)" reminds me a bit of Nick Cave, for some reason. Which microphone is that, do you think? I see that it's an sE Electronics, but...do you think it's this one? Damn, it sounds good. And that backing track has some deliciously insane bass. I was wondering where I got this -- I watched it this last weekend -- what a great show, from right after Remain in Light (they play all four of my favourite songs from there -- Houses in Motion, Crosseyed and Painless, The Great Curve, Born under Punches...and I Zimbra and...and...), lots and lots of Adrian Belew and Tina Weymouth and...just loved everything about it. And a great version of Take Me to the River without them all being doped out of their minds like on SNL.
