I like to take it a step further and make my own dampening material. I start by collecting roadkill. About 12 squirrels, two skunks or one large raccoon will work well. Skin the roadkill and boil down the carcasses slowly for about 10 hours. remove any large particles, and strain the remaining liquid. Further reduce your dampening juice for another 2 - 3 hours at a low flame. Add one packet of Knox gelatin mix, then allow to cool overnight. Done. Slice your dampening gel as needed and apply to your favorite headphones. They'll sound so good that you'll want to listen all day, but they'll smell so bad that you won't.

Went out canvassing for Hillary in a largely-immigrant working class apartment complex in Dania. Since I have no language skills, there was a fair amount of pointing to her picture and making hand gestures for "vote" This is actually kind of a big deal after 40 years of being ethically enjoined from publicly supporting a political candidate.

I carry a pair of Focal Sphears in an etymonic zip up case for that sort of thing. They actually sound pretty effing good for the price. (A mere six times your budget ) this is head-case after all. (Be warned, the Sphears take a LONG time to break in. Way worse than Etys. )

I had an interesting morning. A resident of a local medical halfway house had a seizure, driving his electric wheelchair, and spun out right in front of me. I slammed brakes. First time I've felt ABS with the GTI. I blocked traffic with my car, and assisted. He was seizing and had hit his head. The bleeding wasn't bad, but I was afraid of a neck injury, so I didn't move him, and called 911. I left after the paramedics showed up, as I was meeting with a potential client (maybe finally getting the independent consultancy thing going, we'll see). I plan on calling the halfway house tomorrow, to check up on him. I was honked at a lot, but I was glad to see other people stop and assist, on foot and in cars. That adrenaline rush was better than any coffee I've ever had, let me tell you, when he was suddenly in front of my car.

The 3 trim pots on each channel adjust the output DC offset. You want to get the offset as close to 0V as possible reference to ground. The adjustment needs to be made without the servo engaged. If you are using the TO92 version boards, the pot next to the LED by the power connector affects the output of both phases while the 2 pots in the middle of the board each adjust one phase of the output. I first adjusted the pot next to the LED so that the inverted and non-inverted output offset are fairly evenly spread in reference to ground, I then adjusted the pot on each output phase to bring the offset close to 0V. The goal, when you done adjusting, is to get the DC offset between the two output phases as close to 0V as possible. This is very tricky work due to the constant thermo drift so experiments and patience will be needed. There are quite a few related discussions in this thread if you have not already read them.

Inefficient isn't always a negative. One of my favorite speakers is the Sonus Faber Extrema. But to get them to sing you need to feed them a shit-ton of power (it's kind of like Colin eating a meal). However it is more unusual for a headphone, with the obvious exception of the K1000.

This is something that gets ignored so often. Used tubes aren't NOS. Played records (or polished watches!) aren't mint. Worn shoes aren't brand new.

Looks like Mr. Speakers has come to their senses and will be using a stax compatible plug on their Ether E headphones after all. I guess they couldn't sell their bullshit logic for a proprietary connector once they were called on it.

Even if there is a sonic change, doesn't mean it's audible. And just because one person can hear it, doesn't mean another will. I'm not saying it's subjective, I'm saying it's a function of how accurate one's measuring instruments are, and that includes one's ears. And sure, a circuit may or may not make a difference as to how audible that change is. In one example I was told of, the only thing the one tube does is glow. It is otherwise not even in the circuit. Yes, that's somewhat of an extreme example.

If they have already been used, then they are not NOS, they are just OS.
