  1. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/11/21/us/chattanooga-school-bus-fatal-crash.html There was a horrible bus crash about 15 minutes away from me earlier today that made national, and perhaps international news. 35 K-5th graders were on board, and they've confirmed 6 are dead. Thanks to those of you who have reached out, and my children are OK, but this has been tough on the city today. It's heartbreaking. The oldest of these kids was Xavier's age. This is just sickening. Hug your loved ones tonight; you just never know. **BRENT**

  2. It is my honest opinion that any man having to live with any type of floral fabric, anywhere in the house, deserves a pair of speakers of his choosing.

  3. So sad, Brent. Glad that your kids are fine, but I'm sure that one will really hit home for a long, long time. For my part, I'll be giving hugs to nearly 10,000 kids this next month and a bit, and will keep in mind just how precious life is for all of us.

  4. Miss you Matt. I went looking for this today, and figured I'd bump it. Unfortunately, I am too late for this new years, I think,

  5. It really shows how many outrageous speakers I've subjected my wife to over the years that she thinks the LX521 is a distinct improvement on what has gone before! Maggies, Martin-Logans, Podium 1; Quad ESL57. So yes - I can see where she's coming from!

  6. this is great mission accomplished! in all seriousness though, i you could try a hexagonal wooden cabinet for the tube, similar to this

  7. Can't you tell that's some VPI shit from Shinola?

  8. I think in both cases the statement would be something like, "What's that thing over there, I'm not happy!" I agree on the pluming parts as well as having something in the middle of the room. I'll throw a design together to show you what I was thinking. This could work

  11. Very sad news Brent. I thought of you when the spotty reports started making it to my neck of the woods. I'm relieved to hear that none of yours were involved but it's still very, very sad.

  12. Print this on some canvas, and I think you've already made the ideal Maggie cloth cover.

  14. I think it depends on what the W prefers, since the LXmini seems to have a mainly cardioidal polar pattern, whereas with true dipoles you definitely need at least 3-4 feet in the back and probably some acoustic absorption as well. I can confirm from experience with 6 ft tall Acoustats that large black rectangular prisms get to be fairly intimidating that far into the room

  15. Wrap it in burlap and write Martha Stewart Home on it and you should be all set.

  16. I think a wife would be less thrilled about something that looks like you're repairing the plumbing on your house, than a big rectangular panel.

  17. I went down a rabbit hole last night looking into the LX-mini +2 and in particular the DSP cross-overs. Looks really interesting. I also though if I shortened the tube (not sure how that will effect the sound) put a veneer over the tube it and wall mount it, it has potential. Also, I could create a teardrop shaped (top view) wire frame that would go over the top driver with some speaker cloth. I'd need a sub woofer or the +2 option, but have a space for that already. Interesting. My crazy DIY speaker project is to recreate the MBL tweeter / mid range and recreate something like the MBL 126 but with a smaller cabinet also adding a subwoofer. I was thinking the DSP active cross-over would be an excellent way of tuning the system. @Craig Sawyers - Not sure if the Hypex six channel DLCP is the right option to be looking at for this. All very interesting though.

  19. Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The amp was about $3K when I bought it. Was hoping to pull another few bucks from that as well. I'm about to go through a move, so I'm not going to have too much DIY time on my hands for a little while. I'm going over to Lyric HiFi tomorrow to ask about trade-in options or just to depress myself. I'll likely need to kick in a few $'s. I'm figuring budget of $1K to $1.5K for new/used speakers. Any suggestions on that.
