  5. I've been asked to go down to the police headquarters tomorrow. I don't think "black guy with a hoodie" is going to be all that useful, in a line up. I won't fuck somebody because of it. I couldn't say who it was if you put a gun to my head.

  6. 1980 Mercury Bobcat. I inherited it from my Mother, who inherited it from my Grandfather. Luckily I only had to drive it for a few months, before it self ignited. A short in the wiring burnt up the entire engine bay area. What a POS!

  10. The NDA is now lifted on Quake Champions, so I can finally say I've been playing it since early closed beta. It's looking good if they can get the tech issues sorted out, which ATM aren't big. Some long load times for menus, long connect times for servers, a few customization options they need to add, and what feels like some occasional input lag, which doesn't happen all the time. In terms of gameplay, I think they nailed it. It's not quite the same old quake, but it feels good and it plays well. If you're looking to get into Quake but are turned off by the idea of trying to catch up on 15 years' head start that the OG players have, now's a good time. It's a brand new game. Sign up and get your key! Also, Immortal Redneck is pretty good if you're looking for a procedurally generated FPS rogue-lite thingy. The shooting isn't the greatest around but the weapons are varied, the movement feels fluid, and the environments are downright fantastic at times.

  16. It's actually to put YOU in a line-up! "Swear to God, I was just trying to unlock the door, held my cane up to free my hand to get my keys, but it scratched the lock and door; and this large white dude dressed only in boxers and a wife-beater shirt comes runnin' at me shakin' a pair of headphones and a fountain pen at me....I ran as fast as I could...." Seriously, though, honorable thing to do NOT to screw someone if you're not sure.

  17. Worst car - 1989 VW Fox - 2dr, 4spd manual. It was underpowered to begin with and the 4spd was spaced too far and it was dangerous to merge on the highway. Top it off with a shagged suspension that made it handle like dogshit and it was a perfect storm of terrible.

  20. Thanks guys. Yeah, a little quiet would be nice, for a while. This might finally get my landlord to install the camera system which he bought, but never unpacked, so at least maybe I have that going for me. Which is nice. I'm just glad I stayed up so late watching a movie, last nigh, though the door to my unit would have been a lot harder to get into than the main door, since I have a deadbolt and a bar, and there is no window in it.

  21. The versa is probably a perfectly reasonable car if all you need is something to get around in a city, and don't want people breaking into it to steal stuff, or key it, or whatnot. These days, even a really shitty car is better than ok cars were 20 years ago.

  22. Candidly, it's a shitbox that only exists to be an option in the market for buyers that can't afford anything better. If the budget can possibly stretch to a used Hyundai Accent, Honda Fit or Mazda 3, she'll probably be both safer and happier down the road.

  25. Round two of my DIY 'stats. Again using SR-X driver shells but now with my own bias rings (laser cut aluminum) and 1.4um film. This is more of a test bed for different glue and coating ideas but I have to say it sounds bloody awesome. I haven't received a large shipment of custom earpads so these are just using what I had sitting here. Alternating between some cheapo Fostex TH900 clones off ebay and A-T leather units. The sound changes a bit with the different earpads but not by a great deal. I did try some old SR-007 pads and I didn't like them at all. The thin, non-angled, A-T pads are excellent with this setup. The sound is very lively, energetic and punchy. I'm also narrowing down on the kind of soundstage I like, small but very precise. Now the small drivers will never beat the larger ones in terms of bass output but the super stretched 1.4um film is pretty impressive here. I don't find them bass anemic at all even though they clearly roll of earlier than the 007's. Next steps are more tests and I'm finishing up some new driver designs. Not the cheapest option but I'm going to try to make as many prototypes as I can so I can test back and forth easily. Guess I'll need some more storage space for the headphones then... In other news, I was looking for some earpads earlier and came across the Mr. Speakers Electrostatic pads.... now what the fuck are they smoking? Huge internal area for an electrostatic? This is the same amateur hour as King Sound.
