Get an (EMI) quieter phone, or a faraday cage for it.? Get an audiohile phone ? Use an external dac/amp for use with your phone? Contrarian opinion: https://warmleftovers.com/2016/03/21/portable-dacs-are-stupid-and-you-dont-need-one/2 points

Whatever you may think about Susan Boyle, her rendition of Wild Horses chokes me up every time.2 points

I tried several Schiit amps, both at home and at shows, and most had something unpleasant going on. Most run crazy hot to the touch (not at all surprised the Jotunheim cooked itself), some have awfully scratchy and noisy volume controls, and some have appalling noise floors (with the Valhalla I heard with an HD800, the hiss drowned out the music). I've always been surprised that they come so highly recommended. But the DACs always seemed pretty decent. What's objectionable about the Yggy? (I don't have one, so not defending it. Just curious.)1 point

I still say go for a used Walkman ZX100 and then add Sony PHA-2A to it...and run your Z7 balanced.1 point

Last time I looked at the microphone page in the B&H catalog, there seemed to be a lot of the sort of mics that hang on a boom off your ear. The sort of thing that priests and infomercial salesmen seem to favour. Wired, though. Not too spendy. I have an Audio Technica lav that works fine with my Mac laptop. Not the most wonderful mic, but it was about $30 on Amazon. It has about 15 feet of skinny cable. Don't know of any wireless setups in your price range. I have the spread spectrum Rode lav and I like it ok. But it's a few hundred dollars.1 point

Kalamazoo offer custom laser-cut grill grates in any pattern you want, Steve. Maybe they would do dicks? https://kalamazoogourmet.com/products/hybrid-fire-grill/laser-cut-grill-surfaces-from-kalamazoo/ Reassuringly expensive. https://kalamazoogourmet.com/products/k1000ht-hybrid-fire-freestanding-grill/1 point

I don't stoop that low either. I have 4 pieces of schiit. The joutunheim broke me. That's not a piece of schiit, its a piece of shit. you can't leave it on for more than about 8 hours, it starts to cook.1 point

I have an outboard amp for the Z7 -- a Headamp Pico Power, which is more than sufficient. Although if I do get the X5 Gen 3, I will definitely check out the onboard amp. It's that good, huh? Oh, fuck, I am such a dunderhead sometimes, I'll just use my iPod Touch. Dagnabit, keep forgetting about that thing, out of sight, out of mind.1 point

Are u trying to drive difficult phones or your Z7? If you need something with more power, I recommend the X5 Gen 3. Otherwise, I would get the ZX100 used.1 point

Last fall I started looking for a grill for the trailer. Small enough for two, large enough for small groups/parties. Finally settled on pellet smokers as a good alternative. considering it would be used seasonally and occasionally, cost is an issue as well (utility value). The RecTec RT-300 (mini) was intriguing but pretty sure I'm going in to get a Green Mountain Grills Daniel Boone tomorrow. Didn't care for the open slots for a smoke stack on the Mini and liked the wi-fi control and included meat probe on the Daniel Boone. If I were looking for the house I would probably have gotten a Memphis Elite.1 point

Sony were nuts with all kinds of fringe pseudo science shit. Semi-conductive stator frames, odd cable dielectric, pentagonal diaphragms and crap like that. The ECR-600 I had was 100% push pull though, it was just electret with super high ratio for some unknown reason. As for a discussion between arnaud, Jazz and astroglide.. wouldn't see that one as the latter two fucktards are firmly on my ignore list. Reflections are far more likely from the headphone structure as the D/S gap is so small that there can't be any meaningful reflections.1 point

Well not being fond of the Stones, it was pretty easy for me to give her a fair shake -- yeah, that's pretty...pretty. It has a Tori Amos-ish vibe to it, if you're not familiar with her. Although I'd be surprised if anyone could make "Shattered" listenable. Yes, that's a challenge, set it out there. And Silvertone is such a great album. I remember being frustrated for the longest time until that came out on CD. Going on a Chris Issak binge nao...(Silvertone, second album, Heart Shaped World, San Francisco Days, etc.)1 point

Yes, have the final generation Panasonic plasma here in the UK and it's absolutely brilliant. Will be very sad to leave behind, but am bequeathing to a good friend who will appreciate all 110 lbs of it! Moving to a G6 LG OLED in the US house and interested to see how it compares.1 point

Again, thanks for all the suggestions. I bumped into a buddy before the party at Total Wine and we collaborated. For general consumption we got Kavanagh, Tullamore Dew(white and green jug), and one other I can't remember. The TD was surprisingly smooth, I drank that all night. We also got the Yellow Spot, Jameson 18 year, and Redbreast 12 CS. The good thing is my buddy was able to take the good stuff home, so I'll get to try that next time I'm over. I'm officially an Irish Whiskey fan.1 point
