  1. The whole thing somehow looks much better to me with the tubes in. Pictured are the fat bottle EH 6CA7.

  4. Lol! Today this may be true. Been eating more healthy for the last 7 months, and have lost 60 pounds. Half way to my goal with another 60 pounds to lose. One day at a time.

  6. I got involved with noise cancellation at one stage US5018203A.pdf In the late 80's noise cancellation was in its infancy. So while I was working on that I found that Dick Rutan's round the world Voyager airplane used noise cancelling phones. So I phoned them up in the Mojave - and instantly got through to Dick Rutan. He told me that they were using an experimental Bose system, but that they broke around ten hours into the 9 day flight. I also had a natty idea for enhancing the sound attenuation of double-glazed windows. The idea was to sense the sound pressure inside the cavity and use a transducer to servo that to zero (or as close to as possible). But a patent search revealed that someone else got there first. But no such system has been made available to my knowledge.

  11. Needed some recs, so figured I'd just tack onto this thread since Antonio seems to be done with it I want to upgrade my iPhone 4S, 16G. I'm thinking about a 6S 128G, or possibly a 7 128/256G. Requirements: I use my wired Apple ear buds (the dual ones) for both listening (music) and for phone/conference calls, so mic support is a must I'm not too keen on the idea of forking out for the bluetooth ear buds My 4S is packed to the gills and I keep having to delete music, even after using the old "download Lord of the Rings Two Towers from iTunes store" trick. I can get maybe 5-600M open, but that is it. Convince me that a 7 can support what I need and is an upgrade over the 6S...

  13. Blind Faith. Only one 1969 album with a massively controversial cover. Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker and Ric Grech. What a stunning virtuoso album with the best of the best.

  14. Some reissue, they just took all the stuff the two collaborated on from '58/'59 and put it into an album. It sounds really good but if you're expecting a lot of Bill Evans you'll be disappointed, and the piano is a bit buried in the mix in general.

  15. I grew up in Alaska, so it'll be no surprise that I too love fish. However, I tend to like my fish fresh and not rotted. I also worked side by side with Norwegian fishermen for 5 years and hated every one of their fish recipes. I tend to think those recipes started out as a way to preserve fish and as often happens, what you grow up eating is what you tend to like. To anyone with an un-acquired taste, it's no surprise that it tastes like rotted fish. Isn't Lye used in the making of Lutefisk? Now if we're talking fresh Salmon, Halibut, Black Cod, Pike, Tuna etc... I'm there Brother!

  19. Back when I last worked in a cubicle environment (2010), I found that ear buds (PK2) worked well for me. The music was not audible to my neighbors. I was isolated well from normal room noise and yet could easily deal when somebody wanted my attention. Edit: Please note that I had music playing all the time.

  20. Thanks, TMoney. Yeah, I guess that's what I was getting at -- the DT770 did pretty well, but not as well as an IEM, so I'm seriously considering going over to fully active noise cancelling. Didn't there used to be a Sony in that list? I'll go for the JBL, that's priced right for me. Thanks, Nate.

  22. Still another rainy day. Here with DHT. Shortest distance between tubes is 0.3 inch. This built was not intended for the huge triodes… ...but it is a good sounding thing.

  24. The decorative rings arrived. I fitted them to the chassis mostly to cover the poor drilling job of the holes. These rings have 54mm outer diameter and 36mm inner diameter and are about 10mm tall. One thing of caution - they make installing and removing the tubes much more difficult because they get in the way of grabbing the tube base.

  26. That is a beautiful snake. I've always thought that snakes got a bad rep from the Adam and Eve thing. I attribute some of my own unreasonable fear of them to the story that got drummed into my head in bible school.

  27. I took the Kingsnake up into the hills and set him loose. I would like to keep him in the yard to eat rattlesnakes, but my neighbors are douches and if the snake ever ventured into their yard they would probably call the fire department out to kill them. I take the rattlers I catch up into the same hills and set them loose there as well, no harm no foul.

  31. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Some-Madman-Edited-Wizard-Oz-Alphabetical-Order-I-Can-t-Look-Away-103867.html " Sometimes you have to just sit back and appreciate the internet in all of its ludicrous glory. Sure, there will be some of you that think the decision by a deranged editor to slice together all of the dialogue from The Wizard Of Oz in alphabetical order is a giant waste of time, when it actually it should be celebrated for being so hugely superfluous but still finding an audience on the world wide web. The result is also oddly hypnotic. Especially when it gets to actual words..." Those of you that are looking for a particular highlight to the above video without having to be subjected to watching the gloriously perverted version of The Wizard Of Oz in its full running time should head straight to the 28 minute and two seconds mark for "follow." Or if you’re looking to be instantly heartbroken shimmy on up just 50 seconds later to hear Judy Garland uttering the word "frightened" repeatedly.
