My uncle contacted me out of the blue, this week. Apparently, in the mid-60s, my father owned a Universal Geneve, which he traded to his younger brother (my uncle, and the only one of five siblings still living) for something that my uncle can't remember, after my dad bought the GMT Master. My uncle wore the watch for years, but stuck it in a drawer after buying his first Rolex in the early 80s. He apparently recently found the watch in said drawer, going through things after finally retiring, and is sending it to me. I assume it's a Polerouter, of some kind, but I really have no idea. I'll report back when I have it, which should be next week. I'm sure it will need a full service. I'm excited.

So I thought I would try out reflow oven soldering with a toaster oven. The AMB regulators for the Dynalo Mini are $40 whereas the toaster oven was practically free. I figured trying to solder with the toaster would be worth a try. It would also help with all the other SMD projects I have. I don't have a controller for now so I did it manually. As a test I bought an SMT adjustable power supply kit from Nightfire electronics. I had a little too much solder for the LM317 and one resistor didn't self-center but I'm pretty satisfied with the result. I'm thinking about using this for the R2R attenuator board. Anyone know what the procedure is for doing reflow on 2 sided boards?

Decided to get that JLC Master Ultra thin seen in two of the photos, and I've given that Reverso I had to my Brother. That Master is only 34mm, but doesn't look bad on my wrist, so I'm happy with it until I've the money saved for an A Lange & Sohne Saxonia 37mm seen in the other photo.

I'm obviously late to the show, but the first episodes have been fantastic so far. I'm disappointed that they only released the first season in Blu-ray... if I like it enough, I'll have to settle for DVDs of seasons two to five. The retro '80s soundtrack is great and they've done a good job with historical detail so far. The plot has some gigantic plausibility holes, but it holds together from a dramatic standpoint (i.e., a "realistic" espionage show would be incredibly slow, boring, and basically unwatchable).

cspirou: I would add an input resistor to ground as well. You can match Q1 to Q3 and Q5 to Q7, but I don’t think matching is all that useful here. If you want to try another small SMD buffer, let me know. I have just ordered some boards now that I have verified their performance versus sims. I can include matched Toshiba JFETs and the other dual package BJTs are available at Mouser.

I just had a piece of leftover pizza that I reheated with the TICE method. No penis was involved, but I used a grill pan on the stove top instead of the microwave or oven. Hot and crisp and quick. I fried an egg in the same pan to kick it up another notch. Thanks for the tip, Steve! Er, I mean the suggestion.
