  6. Went to a wedding last night and decided that I'd already tracked enough steps/activity that I could wear an actual watch. And yes, I know the date is wrong. I was in a rush to get ready and didn't feel up to fiddling.

  7. Dunhill has been sick the last few days. My neighborhood had a parade, and I couldn't get to my usual vet. Went to the vet where my mother used to take her dogs. They don't take walk-ins. I didn't know that. They took us. Three shots later, and the puking has stopped and he is hungry again.

  8. “Why We Sleep” by Matthew Walker. One of the most profound and illuminating books I can remember reading in recent years. (It’s not a rhetorical question either, he is one of the world’s most eminent researchers in neuro-imaging.)

  10. RATMAD. This is actually an insult to Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (yes, that's actually his name), who was a brilliant political and military tactician. Also a pederast. Flooded Cypress in Pine Log State Park, FL. Point of Arches in Shi Shi Beach, Washington. Click for slightly larger.

  13. I had the 389's and got the 109's from a guy on diyaudio that had a good rep. I measured the resistance between pins 1 and 3 then 5 and 7 and they both came out at like 50 Ohms. Then I checked them with a transistor tester and they both showed up as jfet. As far as I can tell they're real.

  14. I heard that podcast awhile ago. It eliminated my wiggle room on alcohol and drugs and the effect on sleep. I used to think these things were just loose theories. Apparently, I'm an imbecile also thinking melatonin has been helping me get to sleep.

  15. And now I am reading it, too. I am definitely this book's target market. A lot is reminiscent of things I knew and thought (my theory has always been that dreams are the brain "freewheeling" -- I.E. unthrottled, which is very similar to how he describes it in the Joe Rogan interview; alcohol and most other drugs including sleeping pills are bad for sleep...), so I will read and learn.

  18. For the Frank Lloyd Wright fans there’s an out of print pop-up book titled, you guessed it, Frank Lloyd Wright in Pop-Up, that has plenty of used copies on Amazon right now for under $10. We bought a few years back for Esmé. It’s kinda fun to have around.

If anybody wants a copy of ON1 RAW https://www.on1.com/landing/0719-photo-raw-bundle/?utm_campaign=RAW2019.5_7-19&utm_source=Master&utm_medium=email&utm_content=announce&=&= Bundled with something you probably don't want, but it's fifty bucks for the package. I paid half again that much for my first license and that was an upgrade deal. If we all live long enough, I'll have a HOWTO on working with metadata in the program on my channel.

  20. Buddy you got that much budget to consider a T8000. Why not buy a proven design instead like a Blue Hawaii SE or KGSSHV Carbon?

  23. 1. Opinions vary but to me the SR-007 Mk1 is a bit soft, the SR-007 Mk2 with port mod is close to neutral and the SR-009 is on the bright side. 3. The advantage of Blu-Tank over a fitted piece of plastic is that the Blu-Tak can mold to any small irregularities and form an air-tight seal, whereas there may be some small gaps with a printed plastic piece. As the whole idea of the port mod is to seal off the port completely, Blu-Tak should do a better job.

  25. it has arrived, going to wait for it to warm up before listening N1,N2,N3,N4 are labeled XG (2sk209) q1,q2,q3,q4 are labeled lkw (pmbta45) opamps are jrc401f single high voltage of +440V. opamps get +/-17 this is very similar to the original stax sr-001 amp

  26. For the delay start of HV on the GRHV boards, what value resistor should I use for driving the CPC1117N Opto using 15V? The spec sheet was unclear on this, but I was assuming I should add a 3K or so resistor (?). EDIT: Well, to answer my own question, I was able to find the forward voltage drop of the diode in the CPC1117N using my meter. It is 1.2V. So with 15V supply, that leaves voltage of 13.8V to get rid of. The turn on amps for the 1117N is 1ma min to 50ma max. Assuming 10ma as a safe target, I get R=13.8V/.010A=1.38K resistor. Since 2.2K is a common value, I will go with that which will provide about 6ma current to trigger the opto relay. EDIT2: Yes, these values worked fine. Here is a crude drawing of the circuit. I am measuring about 5ma to the CPC1117N input, which is about what I wanted. A 3K resistor would probably work just fine as well and would lower the current even more to the CPC diode. I am using THIS device, 12V version, from eBay as the timer. It works great for this application and is cheap. I have it set for delay on of 60s. You can also put jumper on S5 on the device and it will provide the VCC without the additional wire from Vcc to relay COM.
