  2. No. A slow cooking oven in a cast iron oven that sits at about 250F and cooks with radiant heat. I was joking that you should get one. Though I do like mine

  3. @mwl168, I would not think that would be an issue for the PSU main boards. It would definitely be an issue for the mini-T2s, but it sounds like those came in as 2mm. So speaking for myself, I am fine with the 1.6mm PSU main boards.

  4. More goodies showed up last night but with some bad news. The PSU main PCB came in 1.6mm/3oz copper instead of 2mm/3oz copper specification. There was a miscommunication that neither I or PCBnet caught until now - the order submitted specified 2mm thickness an 3oz copper but the quote was for 0.62' and 3oz copper and manufactured accordingly. I noticed this discrepancy when I took the PCBs from their wrapping to take some photos. The mini T2 boards are 2mm/3oz copper as ordered. All the PCBs look great with a nice heavy feel to them and are very good quality as can be expected from PCBnet. I have contacted PCBnet to see what can be done to resolve the issue.

  5. Rice is a 22 minute proposition. You boil twice the amount of water as rice in two minutes or so, add the rice, cover the pot and turn down the heat to low, set the timer for 20 minutes, leave it covered, and after 20 minutes turn off the heat. At that point, you can eat it or it will sit happily in the covered pot for another 30 or more minutes without much change in heat or moisture.

  7. Last of my original order of PC parts showed up today, so I set about getting everything installed in the new case (and moved my drives and GPU over from the old one). I did have a brief period of concern because it took a while for the motherboard to do it's initial calibration to the hardware before booting up the first time I turned it on, but miraculously everything worked perfectly fine after that. Now windows is wayyy more responsive and I can finally retire the old i5-2500k. Just gotta wait on the new GPU to arrive to truly complete the build.

  11. Rice in microwave works for me. 2:1 water to rice ratio (family of 4 we do 1 cup rice 2 cups water) microwave on high for 5 minutes, take out and stir, 10 minutes at 50% power, voila! Kind of shaming my Filipino ancestry but what can you do...

  13. That's the 450F roasting oven that sits just above the slow cooking oven (and next to the 350F baking oven). You should get those, too.

  14. No problem with parts. Bought son mother board and case as Christmas present at Micro Center. This was followed a few weeks later with the CPU and power supply, again at Micro Center. All these items were on sale at time of purchase and pre lock down. After the lock down, I bought the memory and C drive at New Egg. Though the items I bought there were not on sale, they do have sales from time to time. When I get around to buying the video card, I'll again order from New Egg. To answer, I had no problem getting what I needed. I have a Micro Center near me, so that helps. With them, I can check inventory from home and then pick it up at the store. Usually when I build a computer, I source from both. Also, when I build, I never buy every thing at once, preferring to build in stages. The RGB is controllable with give or take 20 displays, one of which is off. It is controlled by a small processor board and not the main computer. It's a fun thing that can be turned off. Me

  15. ^ Just finished doing the same thing for my son. Built with a Gigabyte Aorus Z390 motherboard , Intel i9 processor, 32 G ram, 500 SS Gig C drive. Only used the old 250 SS Gig C drive and 1T secondary drive from the old computer. Case is kinda neat in that it does RGB displays on the front panel fans. Side of case is smoked glass and has its own display. Thing booted up on first try and I had no problem installing the drivers and MS Office. Right now he is using the on board graphics but will upgrade to one of the EVGA boards soon. This thing is fast! Me

  16. Melt butter in a cast iron dutch oven on the hot plate. Add spices and salt and let the spices sizzle. Add the dry rice and saute for a few minutes moving it continually until it smells toasty. Then add 2x the water as you added rice, or even better, use stock. Bring rice and water to a boil (it should be almost instant - otherwise your pot was not hot enough to properly toast the rice). Then move it to the slow cooking oven. It will be done in 17 minutes, but can be left for an hour or two if you like it sticky. You don't have a slow cooking oven? You should get one. It keeps the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot.

  17. Treat the rice a as a "lead item". Cook it in a rice cooker - the instructions will give you an estimated cooking time to work with, and the better ones have a countdown indicator, and a "keep warm" function , to help decouple your dependency on needing to serve the rice "right now" Would a PERT chart help? 19. Pork Butt smoked on the Traeger for nine hours, prepared mostly according to the recipe for Momofuku's Bo Ssam https://cooking.nytimes.com/recipes/12197-momofukus-bo-ssam?smid=ck-recipe-iOS-share Claire and I ate it Momofuku/Korean style in lettuce wraps and relevant sauce/accouterments, but Alden and Steve made pulled pork sandwiches with BBQ sauce and all seemed to be pleased.

  21. Just finished the latest season of Bosch! I don't think that the last 2 seasons were quite as strong plot wise but the character interactions are what really make this addictive for me.

  22. With one episode left to go in this penultimate season, this show remains an absolute delight. IMO it is one of the best shows currently on TV. I'll be sad when it is over and done.
