  1. Oh no, did you just reproduce his work without his written permission?

  3. Finally got my Keylab 61 Mk2 today! So far I've only done some exercises (scales) and so far so good. The keybed is quiet and very well made (my main concern). The action is synthy and the keys don't go as deeply as on a real piano and the black keys are a tiny bit narrower than on my old Novation Impulse. I'm sure it won't take very long before I don't notice the difference at all. I don't think you could ask for better build quality and it has a nice modern look to the printing and finish. I'm still downloading the software but I don't expect to be using it except to demo a few instruments (like the cs 80!!) for the future. I'm pretty happy with the instruments I have right now and I'm trying to concentrate on making music with what I have. Feel free to ask any questions.

  6. Ableton is different from most other DAW's other than Bitwig. The latest version of Logic added some Ableton-ish features that makes performance with a Session View sort of a GUI available. They don't call Ableton , "Live" for nothing. I think it's the DAW most easily integrated into a Euro Rack/modular system. Sampler/Simpler and the new Wavetable synths are awesome. That and Max for Live are the the main selling points for me. Unfortunately (or maybe not) this stuff is kinda rocket science. It takes patience, time, and lots of drive (10% inspiration and 90%...). Dusty, tried a few CS-80 patches with aftertouch and it's surprisingly good. Maybe not in the same league as my Roli Rise 49 MPE controller but I think I'll spend some time in that rabbit hole after I finish the music I'm working on right now. The included Analog Lab are a pretty long list of presets but it's not the full modeled CS-80 that you can create your own patches. Still, it's pretty cool!

  9. I like to call it tactical deceleration. @Aimless1 FYI... I've lent my KZ-ATE to my nephew a few times to use on his switch. They're not a permanent solution by any means, but I haven't heard any complaints and they are under $20.

  14. Today. I'm still doing the "your dad in 1968,” but a different 1968.

  15. Not a one smoothie has come even close to killing me, and I still never make them. Your stubborn devotion to blending overripe bananas with potentially-lethal mystery powders is noble and insane, knucks.

  17. I love Fang. Did I ever tell you guys about the time he rear-ended me in Tianjin and then had his wife's dad fix my car while I took painting lessons at his expense?

  18. I am going to try something new to get back into dynamic headphones. Rather than jumping headfirst into the shallow end of the pool, I am going to start out a bit more slowly. So my first trial of a β€œnew” headphone (my current newest model headphone is an HD 650) will be a Focal Clear. Looking forward to it.

  20. On the go it's airpods pro. They're wildly convenient, though hardly great-sounding. At home it's HD800s, vintage Grado RS-1s, or JH13s if I need privacy. Looks like the Raals are the new hotness, so I will probably grab those.

  22. Designed by a guy called Steve Sells. I hired Steve straight from University back in around 1990 when I was running Engineering at Wharfedale. We were planning to re-launch Leak, and I said to Steve "Design the best power amplifier you know how. Exotic components, silver wiring, multilayer boards - no problem". He designed a stunning piece of work. When I took it to the Audio show in London, and wired it to the speakers, a sound like a quiet tinny radio came out. Turned out the shorting straps were still on the back of the speakers - and Steve's amp was playing the cables into a short circuit. The sound came from the force between the cables. Took off the shorting straps and pow! Awesome. Fast forwarding several decades, and Naim likewise let him off the leash. And Statement was the result.

  23. Replaced the wiper motor in my dad's car. Should've been a 10 minute task since the motor itself is pretty accessible. Except the mounting bolts for it are inaccessible unless you remove every bit of cowling and the whole wiper assembly, which also has some vacuum lines integrated into it too for some reason because fuck you. Fuckin' Ford.
