Finish a new pair of electrostatic headphones today.

My first prototype of collective control for helicopters is working. I need to do something with "L-shaped stringers" (I don´t know if it´s the name of this thing) and the wheel that controls the hardness of the knob (I need a 3D print). On the other hand, I have managed to do the assistance (spring and shock absorber) travel very smoothly and Arduino works correctly with all functions that I have added, even with the accelerator (taken from an electric bike). In DCS it's going really well. With the Huey, the MI24, the Gazelle ... for just a few bucks and a few hours of work it is a joy to be able to control these helicopters as a "real" pilot would. Don't be bad 😁

From scratch, with pieces from here and there. I used a handbrake for racing car simulators, an accelerator for electric bike, spings, shock, switches.... The most interesting thing has been working with Arduino and the Hall effect sensors. I had never worked with them and it has been quite interesting. Thinking about this, I have to get stronger magnets since I have some noise in the signal from one of them and although it is hardly noticeable on windows, I want to reduce it to the minimum.

Compared two DACes today, the trusty old Lavry DA11 (via USB from my laptop running from battery, cheap power cables and interconnect) against a Lumin X1 network player. Level matched (that took a while and very annoying if you have to change the volume for a different track), connected to a switch -> SRM-T1S CCS + ECC99 -> SR-009 / SR-Lambda (also speakers, time was unfortunately very limited) Never compared sources like this before, heard the systems indirectly, and my preconceptions turned out to be either false (like soundstaging), or way less than expected. The DA11 had more, slightly looser bass. The midrange seemed slightly more laid-back, giving the impression of very slightly less clarity (some described it as "slightly old-school"). Having that 'bass boost on' felt more synergistic (I also find the internal crossfeed being useful sometimes), although the Lumin had a slightly firmer, tighter presentation. In the grand scheme of things, I struggled to find big faults with either, it felt I could just enjoy music without fatigue (well, maybe not true for the SR-009 after a while), and I was quite shocked when I found out the difference in price. And maybe the DA11 can improve with a decent PSU as well. Next time I might just try again to see if I notice some more stuff, congestion, etc. and I might test my amp directly against the CCS ECC99 modded version, that should be super easy (though it needs a few hours of warming up...) DA11+T1S+NB Lambda for under 2000$ all-in (maybe with the CCS mod squeezed in) seems quite unbeatable value to be honest, if focusing on the music itself is the most important thing rather than all those technicalities where it might be lacking. Chief among which is precious little bass texture to speak of, piano lacking in weight also, less speed, etc. The imaging or that final 10-20% detail and extension at the extremes, slight congestion really doesn't bother me, the sound is already very clear, open, quite balanced and extended with stunning seductive mids, that's more than enough for me. On the other hand, if I owned a pair of SR-009s, I would probably try a "heavy-handed" approach, like a Smyth Realiser or a custom EQ besides an amp upgrade, as I felt that a warmer source didn't really change much about the overall character. outro: back at base to finish off Schubert's Symphonies. Even with the stock amp with looser (but yet even warmer) bass, the sound is still wonderful, I only remember the HE90s having that sense of undisturbed connection with the mids (and with more dynamics to boot, I can't care with the technical flaws). Switching to the SR-Omega, phenomenal resolution and imaging, bass cleans up massively, a very nuanced presentation, totally relaxing, flows beautifully. However, it's almost as if all that extra information makes the midrange a bit distant, veiled and disconnected at times. I mean, it's not half bad, maybe it is just showing the Lavry as a "boring" source or whatever, but...as weird as it may sound, it looks to me that all these Omegas, need some work one way or another to reach up to that level of musicality that an SR-Lambda can deliver by default, always, no questions asked.

Well worth a punt and reminds me of the Koss wire but not double insulated.

Regarding the MJW21194/21193s: I believe some people use 2SC5200/2SA1943 instead of these. A bit lower power, but would be fine for a Dynalo. I think the pinout is the same, but I would check it first.

Pretty simple: slather a chicken breast or thigh or leg or whatever in Nando's Double Exxtra Hot sauce, toss in oven (on foil, uncovered), set to 425, wait 13:33, turn oven off, wait 3:33 -- prestochango, homemade Nando's. (Times and temperatures may change depending on bone-in &c.) Would probably come out even better if you put it on a grill, like they do. Maybe even a rotisserie. Used their Garlic sauce for dipping, because I love garlic.

I have found using smaller diameter of solder helps very much with this problem. I now use .025/.6mm ones almost exclusively now for this kind of work.

Holy smokes the Option-O Remi is nice. I’ve run through a few ounces of the cheap beans I tend to keep (purchasable in 2 pound bags from Amazon!) specifically for dialing in grind. I’ve used cafe Mahlkoenig’s that didn’t grind this consistently. They did grind with less effort, admittedly… From a fit-and-finish and human interface design perspective there are improvements I could suggest. It would make a rather expensive and very low production hand-grinder into a very, very expensive and exceptionally low production hand-grinder, so I understand why the “corners” that were cut were cut. I like it a lot and I honestly don’t care* if the Flair Royal is returned fixed. *A lie.

on the 200V breakdown setting my dy294 initially puts out a maximum of 712uA (tested on a brymen bm869s) and about 530uA on the 1000V setting. This is with the dy294 powered at 6Vdc from a bench power supply. if you reduce the input voltage to the dy294 to about 3VDC from the usual 6V, the 200V breakdown outputs about 180V at 375uA and the 1000V range gives about 570V at 270uA. about the lowest you can go is 2VDc input before the microprocessor crashes or the breakdown readings on the display get radically incorrect. At 2VDC input the 200V settings gives about 105V at 225uA and on the 1000V setting 365V at 171uA

Ash plank, finished entirely with hand tools (planes and scraper). Well, not quite true, I dimensioned it using machine tools (radial saw and planer/thicknesser), and then moved to hand tools. Second pic is paper thin plane shavings from the process. This thing, once it has a coat or two of something to be determined, is a coat rack!

The desirability of the Panasonic for filtering and power rail uncoupling is the higher ripple rating and lower ESR. At that size/voltage, the Panasonic FR is rated for 1.65A and 30 mohms, the Kemet 1.35A and 42 mohms. Not a big difference, but it's there.
