  3. ODE TO SPAM. Most of you know that I'm a country boy. I may be gay, but I'm still a child of the woods. I was born and raised in Alaska, but my parents are both from South Texas. I grew up on Texan and Mexican food. Biscuits and gravy for breakfast, enchiladas or chicken fried steak for dinner. I always say I spent half my life in a tent. Sometimes we'd be in the middle of nowhere for weeks at a time. We relied on Moose and Caribou to fill our freezer. It was a fantastic way to grow up! I cherish those memories. Because of the long trips miles from civilization, we needed food that wouldn't spoil. One of the items we always had on these hunting trips was Spam. When the bacon ran out, it was Spam and eggs for breakfast. Even at home there was always Spam in the cabinet. Having two older Brothers, the lunch meat was often gone when I went to fix my lunch for school. So I'd break out a can of Spam. It started as my only alternative, but I quickly developed a taste for the stuff. Even to the point that I'd pass over the ham or roast beef cold cuts for my good friend Spam. Even today I feel the craving a few times a year, and I overcome the judgment of others as I take the Spam from my cart and place it on the belt at the checkout. Like a full moon to a werewolf, I felt the calling yesterday. So I loaded up a few cans of my old friend, along with other grocery items. Today I went to make myself a sandwich for lunch, and while grabbing pickles from the fridge, I spotted a jar of Tostitos salsa con queso dip I had picked up with tortilla chips. Hmmm? A healthy slather of the queso dip on a slice of the bread and some thick Spam slices, and a new favorite was concocted. A side of Grillo's pickles and Cheetos puffs, and lunch for a King was served and fully enjoyed! OK, King of the trailer park maybe, but I can live with that. I'm mostly English, Irish and Scottish, with a little dose of White Trash to round things out. D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S !

  5. Got the first stage of my next project working, an amp that started out as a Menace clone and has changed a bit over time. 6SN7 input stage, CCS with a 21st Century Maida circuit as the B+ supply.

  6. A trick that's worked for me is to not be too specific in the search and that way you get misspelled listings. That's how I found the deal I got!

  9. I listened to those two yesterday. I was expecting more of the Variations. The second disc in the Mingus set is brutal. Considering to listening to this one No idea who this girl is, I am not very fond of previous Reznor or Ross output despite the good accolades, yet still curious.

  10. As for the vinegar thing...as a kid, we had a hockey trip down to North Dakota to play against some 'merican teams. One of our adults, slightly inebriated, almost got into a fight at McDonalds because he wanted some "fucking vinegar for my fucking fries!" As an adult, I concur with his taste.

  11. As mentioned, today's TVs generally have terrible sound, because they assume you'll be using a sound bar. Even cheap sound bars are much better than the tiny TV speakers.

  12. Yeah, he's amazing. Thanks for that, will queue it up to watch later. The last Transatlantic album is probably a better starting point. I enjoyed this album a lot, but I'm not the biggest NMB fan. It's definitely got some great ensemble playing. And I totally agree with you on the Christian thing, but I have a friend who's really into them, so I tolerate it. And it's like extreme metal like early Opeth -- I hate harsh vocals. HATE. But the music is so good, that I put up with it.

  14. I am a big Spock's Beard fan from back in the day when it was fronted by Neal. I didn't follow him into his solo work (well I got the first album). It went too Christian for me. I had not heard of the Neal Mores Band project. I will add it to my list. thx

  15. Same. I first heard about that record in this wonderful article: https://ew.com/music/trent-reznor-danny-elfman-big-mess-interview/ It starts out with some ridiculous mutual back-slapping, but seems sincere in their mutual admiration. But then it gets interesting... (stinger noise)

  17. Working from home today, dealing with whatever is left in the fridge syndrome and happened upon what I believe to be a winner. Smoked pulled pork and eggs fried in bacon fat, eventually topped with cheese and some of the aforementioned bacon

  18. Finally completed my Dynahi, an on/off project (like some of them) for five years. Bought the set of boards from Samsie in December 2015, so I thought I'd just let him know that they eventually came of use! Turned out to be a relatively uncomplicated build, except for a couple of resistors around the THAT340 with too many zeros, discovered by MLA. Also a problem with the -30V side on one of the PSUs. Turned out to be a malfunctioning rectifier. A BC556 popped, but the supply worked once replaced. For a week or so, then the 556 popped again. After the third time I scratched my head, but some sparks from one of the surrounding caps told me it had taken some beating from the faulty rectifier. Replaced that and the DN2540 and now it has played without incidents for a couple of weeks. Sounds very nice and has become my go-to-amp, with some competition from a KSA5 I took over from MLA recently. Spoiled for choice.
