Well, friendos - me and my gf bought 75 liter hiking backpacks so we can bug out if needed. Also bought enough water and food to last us for 3 days on the run. It's relatively peaceful here in NATO's embrace, but shit can get real pretty fast. Most doomsday supplies are sold out.4 points

Silver and I are finally, I think, finally hitting an equilibrium point: she is tolerating more attention and I am tolerating not giving her too much attention.3 points

So long as I use 3 in 1 oil, I've never broken a tap in an aluminum heatsink. And I've done it hundreds of times. Just use the correct sized drill bit, and preferably a drill press for the initial hole.2 points

I’m going to abuse my powers as admin and sell some coffee: I have 40 lbs of coffee available to purchase. It’s a medium roast rwandan coffee that I taste blueberries in. It’s the first coffee I thought was worth selling under my brand. From the bean wholesaler: Rwanda Natural - Huye Mountain Sweet, black grape, blueberry, boysenberry, chocolate Huye Mountain Coffee is a private washing station established in 2011 to provide farmers in the region with access to international markets and buyers of specialty coffees. Around 1,330 producers deliver their freshly picked coffee cherries to 26 collecting stations around the Huyecommunity, where a truck visits daily to collect the farmers' coffee during harvest season. This unique coffee comes from the Huye Mountain in the Huye District, in Southern Rwanda and grown above 1,900 meters. The natural process employed at Huye Mountain involves meticulous cherry selection and hand sorting prior to drying. Drying is done on raised African beds for between 14 and 28 days, depending on the weather, and the coffee is turned regularly. Country of Origin Rwanda Harvest Season 2021/22 Coffee Grade RWA CA NAT SPL SD Bag Type Grain Pro / Ecotact Plant Species Arabica Processing Natural/Dry Processed Variety Red Bourbon Region Huye District Farm Name Various smallholders Growing Altitude >1600m Climate Tropical savannah Soil Loam
It’s $40 for 2 lbs, shipped via USPS. I’ll roast and ship in the next week or so. Paypal to: 1 point

While it has a lot of goofiness. I am actually enjoying Jimmy Diresta’s new Netflix show. Interesting problem solving and builds at the demands of children’s plans. One of the OGs of YouTube woodworking and his goofy friends.1 point

I figured out who Brian James Chesser likely is: custody issue. Worked at a place that is less than half a mile from where I live.1 point

I found a copy of a play that I liked a long time ago. Lemon Sky -- by Lanford Wilson Plot summary The story is about a teenager named Alan who has recently graduated from high school. He moves from the Midwest to San Diego, California, in the 1950s to live with his estranged father and his new family. Attempting to overcome the past, Alan is confronted with problems in his new family. Television film Wilson adapted the play for a television film of the same name on PBS. The film was broadcast in February 1988 as part of American Playhouse. Directed by Jan Egleson, the film starred Kevin Bacon as Alan, with Tom Atkins as the father Doug and Lindsay Crouse as Doug's second wife. Kyra Sedgwick, who met future husband Bacon during rehearsals, played Carol, a teenaged boarder: "pill-popping, promiscuous... who seems to spend most of her time with the US Navy." In his review for The New York Times, John J. O'Connor wrote that the film is "terrific", praising the "uncommonly fine performances". Casey Affleck made his screen debut in the film as Alan's stepbrother, Jerry.1 point

Tonight was a return to non-wood based making. One of the other folks retiring this year (good lord, please make it stop) is one of our electrical engineering techs who's just a cool guy. He's already retired once from being a full time electrician but has been with us for 5 or 6 years. He sits outside my office so we talk quite a bit and I wanted to make sure that he had a unique way to remember the island when he left. So I worked with our CADD department to isolate the AC electrical grid that runs underground on the island that Tom (the retiree) had to work with every day. I reverse engraved it on an acrylic sheet and also used the laser to cut it out before mounting it to a lighted LED base (it came as a kit). Pretty simple project, should make a fun light to have around the house. The worst part of it was polishing out all the fine scratches in the acrylic that were left by trying to remove the burn-off staining that was a result of the lasering. I'm happy with the finished product and think he will be too.1 point

I successfully designed (Fusion360) and printed my first part on Wednesday. It's an adapter to transform the diameter of a cyclone dust separator that I'm printing for use with the Shapeoko as my had and I are going to use the machine to make parts/pieces for a quad of Adirondack chairs this winter. Stock part left, my part right. Combined Assembled with 2/3's of the separator, the third piece is printing now and should be done in about 12 hours. Then I have to print one more each of the nozzle/hose pieces.1 point

This is pretty amazing. Also, Jerry has gotten so fat I'm worried he's going to die right before our very eyes.1 point

The other major thing that happened to me today (and honestly at the time I figured was the only major thing) is that I have sort of “officially” transitioned from being my mother’s son to being her care taker. There is overlap. I think this is a lot better for both of us. It’s… at least honest. Her hip replacement is semi-firmly set for April 12th. I’m hoping improved mobility will help her. Surely it can’t hurt.0 points

I did a lot of things, but being followed home by a PI (I made them immediately, and my pulling into a police department parking lot wasn’t unsubtle enough apparently: “I’ll fucking kill you right now” apparently suitably unsubtle) who had been hired to serve somebody with almost but not quite my name made for an interesting few moments. I don’t even think this variety of being served is legal in Ohio. I’ve been served papers (divorced twice, after all) and most of the time they don’t even bother with certified mail (“most” being “all”). A… particularly difficult parental situation? well, regardless, whomever cares about James should hire a better PI.0 points

RIP to another aunt of mine, Iva (lower left) passed away peacefully Friday after a long life that was hampered with dementia towards the end. The pic below is of my father's family. 4 blood siblings, and Iva who married Joe (lower right). My dad (top center) and my Aunt Goldie (top right) are the only remaining siblings still alive. Time passes, and new life is born, but it also means the slow but sure end of a generation....and a lifetime of precious memories remains..... EDIT: just watched the funeral, it was streamed from the gravesite. Two of her 3 children, my cousins, were talking and one held up a self-portrait Iva did when she was 13 years old. Incredible....art was a big part of her life (she taught art for many years, and I remember some paintings and sculptures in their home of hers).0 points
