  1. The other parts arrived early enough for me to head back to Milo's to finish up the build. This jig works really well. Nice and smooth. No weird glitches, like some homemade jigs. And it produces a beautiful, low angle pocket. The brass guide does a fantastic job of placing the screw exactly where it needs to be. Impressive! Thanks again Naaman!

  3. had to make the board bigger because of the diameter of the 300B pictures not same size (major squares are 1 inch)

  4. Contax 645 was the camera I dreamed about. But the pair of Mamiya Super 23s next to it are super underappreciated gems. It's a whole 120/220 rangefinder system with multiple backs (6x45, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9, polaroid), and sharp lenses, but more importantly it has bellows and a ground glass back so tilts and shifts and swings and macro work are all possible.

  6. The Night Agent (Netflix) - a well-done FBI/Secret Service-based drama series that avoids most of the cliches. Recommended. Lucky Hank (AMC+) - Bob Odendirk's new dark-ish comedy. Two eps in. Pretty good, easy watch.

  8. So, I was mentioning how Capt. Whirlygig CNC'd me the parts to build the same pocket screw jig that he built recently. The ping ponged parts made the job really easy! It went together quickly and accurately. Thanks Naaman! The toggle clamp, safety switch and spiral bit arrive later today, so I'll get those attached next weekend and take it on a maiden voyage. It's a two action setup. The router bit cuts the pocket, then you use a small drill bit to cut the screw hole. You can see the brass guide for the 5/32" drill bit. A nice smooth operation.

  9. It didn't come up in my initial Tidal search - they need a better search engine for classical. so: Paris Hilary Hahn, Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France, Mikko Franck 2021 https://album.link/i/1547821040 – It would have made it into the cut of the 17+ that I listened to, out of the 50ish that I started with. Pacing is a touch slow, but makes up for that, with a bit more dynamics and expression. The attack on the violin is one of the most aggressive. I felt that they had something to say, and was not happy about it. The recording is very well done, even though the orchestra is presented more of one big lump rather than players with Hilary pushed up front. A part of the aggressive nature leads to the touch of screechiness that I mentioned in some of the ones in the list. I don't have a lot of tolerance for high register screech. I would place this in the Isabelle van Keulen, James Ehnes area of my list. Very good, just not as enjoyable to me as the higher ones. - thx Dusty But I really like listening to this work now, so if there are any others out there that I have missed, please let me know. I would be happy to discover it. And hopefully TIDAL continues to realize that they need to update their search to be better with classical. Also this morning: François Couperin: Les Apothéoses Jordi Savall 2021 https://album.link/i/1578273334 Example: I appreciate this French Baroque work. I discovered Jordi Savall back in the day with the All The Mornings of the World soundtrack (Tous les matins du monde). I could do without the introduction of each piece, I don't speak French anyway, so it does me no good. Ed: Sick as well - Get better y'all

  11. A few phone snaps from a photo fair today. Showing a rare example of will power I came home with -1 cameras. These are held three times a year in Newark, CA, but also show up once in year in Portland (coming September), if anyone up there is interested. The 2.7MP Nikon D1, originally $10K in today’s dollars, that I picked up for $40 here last show, were going for $75 today. #digicamtrend

  12. Now this is pretty cool. Minor Threat set lists from their June 26th 1983 NYC show. Very neat penmanship for a bunch of punk kids. That said, I'm pretty sure "12XU" is said "One, Two, X You" there, Lyle.

  16. Arcade Fire last night in SF. Full house, the crowd was ready to party and the band showed up and brought the energy. Most fun show I’ve been to all year. If you like these guys, catch them on this tour!

  20. RIP Israel "Zuny" Zelitch. 99 years old, he was in the same Independent/Assisted Living facility as my mother-in-law. In times after his wife passed, and my father-in-law was gone, he was a wonderful companion to her. She passed in June 2021, he just passed today. A brilliant and fascinating man, not much for idle conversation but had some fascinating stories. Also a major part of local Yiddish organizations, and very well known in that community. Unfortunately he was unconscious soon after catching COVID recently, was moved to hospice where his son (wearing basically a hazmat suit) got to say goodbye. A woman from that Yiddish community was called and they held the phone to his ear while she spoke; he actually twitched his eyes several times. Shortly thereafter, he passed. One link with info about him: https://portal.ct.gov/CAES/ABOUT-CAES/Staff-Biographies/Israel-Zelitch Karen and I had met his son and daughter-in-law years back, when our kids went to the same after-school program. We also found out his son's wife was my neighbor growing up! We got to reconnect after we found out Zuny was his dad. Karen was able to share some stories about Zuny and her mom that his son was so thankful to hear. Just a wonderful family, and a fascinating man. RIP Zuny, you may have two women vying for your attention now! 🙂
