  1. It's not Cash. It's not Haggard. Not Jones or Waylon or Willie. Although I love all of those guys. My favorite male Country vocalist of all time is Ray Price. IMO his vocal prowess is unsurpassed. So effortless and smooth. Take that vocal ability and put some Kristofferson lyrics in his mouth, throw some strings behind it and you've got pure Country gold.

  3. Thank you all for the well wishes, we’re safe and sound for the time being and are well-taken-care-of. We have plenty of supplies to ride this out, but I doubt we would have to. State has been really forward-leaning about security ever since Ambassador Stephens’ death in Libya tanked Secretary Clinton’s career. That might just be the shock talking, though. Would you believe I have to compete to get these assignments?

  4. Stay safe Tyler. If you know of any volunteer opportunities over there for an old guy that’s not working please let me know. Otherwise, I may have to go to one elite university at a time and beat the crap out all those in the student governments that are supporting Hamas.

  5. Under all that gooey, amazing looking cheese? We hit a ramen joint for a late lunch yesterday. Interesting in that they had a lot of less traditional dishes including this spicy one with pork and a poached egg. So much cilantro made it a lot like a pho in texture. HS

  6. I finally got the chance to see him live, but by then he was 81 years old. I was worried that my hero would no longer have the chops to perform some of my favorite songs. That however was far from what happened. He absolutely blew me away! He hadn't lost anything! Amazing show!

  8. I like everything except for the position of that rotary mixer. Nobody wants to use a mixer placed at 90º near gut level. DJ Pro Tip(tm): Mixer location is far more important than where the decks are.

  9. Forgot you were in Jerusalem now, Tyler. Stay safe or take your family and get out of there if the state department offers it. Best of luck!

  10. The hinged seat idea might work although it would make the space below far less usable for shoes, etc. I might opt for scrapping the existing vestigial bench altogether, sad as that may be. They could bring it back flush with the cabinets and either leave it walnut or else paint to match. Either way, I would make a couple of little bench stools that you can slide in and out as needed. They could be simple three sided inverted U shapes that are a little shorter and shallower than the cabinets and you can still stow shoes under them. Or just make two smaller stool cubes with a cutout hand hold that sit on either end. You could also leave the walnut the way it is and make stools of some sort, although I don't love the look. Oh, and bonus vocabulary and creative writing points for an excellent use of "vestigial."

  11. Hi gents. A rather random question for the hive mind. This is the new mudroom-in-progress. During the design, we opted to keep the "seat" small to preserve full width access to the elevator that's in the left corner of the space. Sadly, we were a little too conservative and it's ended up looking downright vestigial. It's just under 6" and really needs to be at least 8" to be much use. (That's what she said!) I'm wondering if there's any practical way to add a "lip" extension made from the same wood. Obviously it would be load bearing -- a considerable load in my case -- so secure attachment would be the major consideration? There is less than half an inch of overhang of the current seat from the supports and the cross members are only 2" by 1". Suggestions welcomed, including "it's a dumb idea, just live with it as is you big maroon."

  13. Leaving left channel as it is now might be wise. Than you can compare it with the right channel later.
