  3. They are up. We have been under a warning so even though may not hit, can't risk not doing it. Never again. Combo of storm windows and accordians going on after this passes. I'm too old for this shit. Luckily 3 days no vertigo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Good luck Mike (and glad to hear your vertigo gave you a break)! You guys with 78rpm records; I'm a fan of the "intangibles" that are captured on many of those old disks. Most folks who are serious about these early recordings have transferred playback to digital. If any of the members here have done this, I'm pretty good at noise reduction and have a number of apps for that purpose. Feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to do some restoration work ( once it's in digital form) for the asking.

  6. Good luck and stay safe Mike, and all in the path. Anyone hear from Wayne? I saw that the storm should have been far enough away, but haven't seen/heard much for details....

  7. Update Received the invoice and paid. Delivery date is Nov 30, 2016. Fees for shipping to me and bank transfer will be included and updated in the spreadsheet. These fees will be divided among everyone equally. This should be close to $5 each. Remember that if you are using the goods and merchandise option through paypal to please include a 2.9% + $0.30 for the paypal service charge. Using the gift option will not incur a charge. I should hear back from the manufacturer for an update by next week and will let you guys know about that. But there is not much more to do but wait. In the mean time I will work on a setup to measure pots quickly and accurately to make sure they are within spec. This may delay shipping a little bit but I'd like it if every pot everyone bought is a working pot. When it comes time to ship I will look into shipping all the USA/CAN orders to another member and then have them take care of those order individually. This should be cheaper then individually sending each order from France. Of course if you just want to receive your package faster and pay more, then that can be arranged as well.

  8. You have to admit, that's a weird place to be having that discussion.

  9. I'd also very much like to know. I was in a similar situation... bought a Sigma Pro and SR-404 in order to do the driver swap, but never ended up doing it because both already sound good. The key to messing with Staxen is to never listen to the beautiful, beautiful music.

  10. Stereophile review of Utopia. They got it pretty much right as far as I am concerned. The Utopias are a bit of a devining rod. A lukewarm or negative review of them tells me more about the reviewer than anything. I still feel guilty about buying another expensive headphone, but boy do they ever sound fantastic. Apologies for potato-quality screenshots from my phone.

  11. Yikes. Are you installing or waiting for Matthew to show it's path? Good luck regardless.

  12. It has been mentioned on that other site ( somewhere) about tube burn in, but to me that's just a load of BS.

  16. Like it, have set up series recording. Hope the writers continue down the classical sci-fi path, with mysterious, thought-provoking ideas.

  18. No, there was a time when that meant the world was flat, for there was as yet no way to observe any empirical evidence to the contrary. Now, I'm not saying that the opposite is true, I'm just saying you can't prove a negative. For example, there's no objective evidence that I can play the guitar. That doesn't mean I can't play, but it also doesn't mean I can.

  19. In a moment of madness I picked up 250 78rpm discs. All classical, complete sets and soloists like Gigli. My god they are heavy - I reckon that they weigh in at 75kg (170lb). Next task is to catalog precisely what on earth I've got. Oh - the whole lot was free of charge. WAF = 0 or even negative.

  23. With permission, then, here's the story. When my mom passed away in 2011, Steve made a beautiful box to hold her ashes and it was very special to me and my family. Claire's mom's memorial and internment is next month and I had been meaning to ask him for another favor but it slipped my mind until just days ago. Being such an amazing guy, Steve immediately said yes and started work the next day. He's already finished a turned lacewood urn and will ship it tomorrow. Claire and her sister are thrilled that their nature loving, conservationist mother will not be put in the ground in a plastic box, and of course I am eternally grateful to Steve for his beautiful work and friendship.
