  1. Nice work Steve. Just looking at it I can see all the things I would have screwed up due to half-assedness. I broke down all the Sapele and Oak for the chairs in preparation for jointing once I get the jointer dialed in.

  4. Also the echos of more contemporary events - Southern border policies (steal jobs and al-Qaeda could sneak across), Syrian refugees (who is in disguise?), only 114 Ukrainian refugees entered the U.S. last month, etc. It’s the same policies, and the same party fighting, using the same chant of jobs and terrorism (replacing concern over spies).

  6. My CFA3smd something, now powered from a switched mode power supply and equipped with a headphone protector. I’ll test this for a while and if I like it I might build a decent cage for it. Else I’ve a growing "good to have" closet.

  7. I like the GOT books for the most part. The weird timeline split he was forced into when the third? or fourth? book was too long was really annoying. Discussing events in such great detail and then going backwards in the next book with parallel timelines was dumb.

  9. Looks great, Steve! Though I do think you could have incorporated a cantilever design and some stained glass with natural design elements to bring the upstairs down and vice-versa.

  10. A Game of Thrones - GRRM I'll give the HBO folks a ton of credit. At least when it comes to this first book, the GOT show feels like about as faithful a book-to-show adaptation as I can remember. AGOT the book is entertaining and reads like a beach read, with lots of momentum from chapter to chapter. You can tell GRRM loves him some food. The flowery descriptions of all the feasts and food got to be a bit much after a while. 😂 I think I will probably keep going with the books. I'm betting the deeper you get in to the series the more the books diverge from the GOT Show.

  11. Pitchfork updated its list of top songs and albums from the '90s. I like the idea of going back and redoing the tier lists a decade after they made the first set of them. I've been slowly working through the songs list. 13. *Sigh* why can't we have nice transistors?... I have updated the schematic to show both KSA/KSC and TTA/TTC series transistors. I'm working on changing the gerbers so that leg twists will not be needed 🙂 One channel done, I think, needs checking...

  14. I also see the 40 series more in "work" environments than in games. Edti ; It´s already leaking that the 40 series will be an 25% max higher than the current 30 series without DLSS, RT, etc...

  15. So if my brain is not totally scrambled (which is possible its my first week back lecturing). KSC2690 or TTC004 NPN replaces 2SK216 N channel. Base-> Gate, Emitter -> Source, Collector -> Drain and Ksa1220 or TTA004 PNP replaces 2SJ79 P channel, Base-> Gate, Emitter -> Source, Collector -> Drain which gives modern T2 circuit (green replacements original moved to the side)

  17. Yes, the 4090 is a good value if it performs like Nvidia claims and if the prices are in the ballpark of what they listed. I'm not sure what availability will be like... will the high-end market be indifferent after such a long drought... at this point, some people are probably trying to figure out whether it's worth purchasing a 30-series or wait for the new products. The GeForce RTX 30-series is mature (and upgraded with the Ti products) and the drivers should be relatively stable, likewise regarding the hardware power and cooling implementations, mux output, etc. I can see the 4090 and its relatives being popular for content creators (i.e., graphic rendering, etc.), given the significant performance improvements that could pay for themselves very quickly.

  18. Just different pinout; no passive swaps so far. Will do some measurements in the coming weeks to check that all current sources have the right outputs, etc, but I don't expect any big surprises. JoaMat has run 1220/2690 replacement editions of his T2:s for a long time without issue as far as I know, and the tra/ttc004 pair seems quite on par with that combo. Measured breakdown voltage in the units I have is around 210V (rated 160V), compared to about 230V for 79/216 (rated 200V) if I remember correctly from somewhere in this thread, so not quite the same but close.

  19. I'm glad you enjoyed GOT, I felt like every book was a battle and one that I saw no point in winning. I'm sure I missed out on something by not finishing the series but I admit defeat.

  21. I had some of that after the first episode, but thanks for the heads up. This has been really good so far. Pointing out the parallels between their segregation, and how Hitler really liked our segregation, we were really good at it. Yep we really suck too.

  22. Ummm difficult.... They are all excellent musicians For his cheerful character, that of Yo Yo Ma. Casals, Rostropovich, Fournier (recorded in Basle Cathedral), Schiff, Bylsma and the Maisky´s first record, they all seem perfect to me in terms of virtuosity, although I wouldn't know which one to choose... perhaps Bylsma's version. On a technical level, I admit that I feel more attracted to "modern" recordings, so the Casals and Fournier recordings are the ones I listen to the least. Gavriel Lipkind and Queyras are perfect for me and on a technical level their recordings are simply spectacular (Queyras' version is recorded at the Eglise Saint-Cyriak and I think I remember that the engineer used DT990s). Both are very careful recordings and their presentation is extraordinary (it is worth the money it costs) Wispelwey I have always thought that it is the most correct "temporarily" since it uses a Baroque cello with "gut strings" (cuerdas de tripa, I don't know if the expression is correct) and I like to think that, if Bach ever got to hear his pieces, it would be with one of these instruments (perhaps I'm wrong). But the one I like the most and my first choice is Maisky's second recording. He is energetic and makes me feel very happy. It is very different from all... comparing his two recordings I feel like he evolved from an instrument virtuoso to a musician. I really like when something is recorded in cathedrals or churches... these places provide spectacular acoustics. Like allways, excuse my poor english and be soooo boring 😞

  24. ^ Just be aware when you get to the third part. I had a hard time going to bed after watching it because I was so sad and angry. It is a lot to take in.

Due to get into Mercury polar orbit in 2025 after a 7 year journey. So far two flybys of Venus and two of the overall 6 flybys of Mercury as it brakes on its way in.

  29. Some recent reads: This was really great. Strahan is a Top Notch anthologist. Not as good as Station 11 but still pretty dang good. This one grabbed me. Couldn't put it down. Quick read, absolutely loved it. Really great Sci-Fi/Horror that reminded me of Harlan Ellison's I have No Mouth and I Must Scream. After reading this and the Children of Time duology I have become a big fan of Tchaikovsky. Current reads: I also stumbled upon an audiobook version of all 12 issues from Asimov's Science Fiction from 2014. Pretty cool.

  30. Easter update... a friend of mine has a 3D-Printer: And this is what those parts are for: There will be an additional PCB mounted on top of the volume pot that will also serve as wiring distribution and protection circuit. I will only need tapped holes to the heatsinks, all PCBs are otherwise held in place by the plastic spacers.
