The problem with speakers vs. headphones are that headphones are designed to sound right about a cm from the driver, whereas speakers are designed to sound right feet from the driver, so I would think you would need some sort of bass reflex enclosure to correct how wrong headphones sound when you lay them on your desk and turn up the volume.

At its core, I don't think they're that different. I think what makes them seem so different are the apps that one uses the most. That said, I haven't used iOS in a few years. The difference between linux (Ubuntu) and Windows, on the other hand, remains large. I really like linux's ability to update everything through a common interface, whereas Windows' will only update Microsoft products. I think everything else is a case of familiarity.

Suxorz. Sympathies. But on the bright side, you no longer have to dwell on which headphone gear to keep and which one to sell. If you were even considering selling it, sell it. Time to pare down anyway, neh? (Hint: just keep telling yourself that -- I call it brainwashing, but really you're just retraining the brain.) It's just stuff.
