More Hipster Than Though, the obscurity pissing contest.

The Obscurometer. Only works if you have a last.fm account (and a fair amount of scrobbles.)

With jut under 120,000 plays, I have an Obscurometer rating of 75%. My friend Brent got 85.5%. What's yours?

There has to be an error somewhere when my own Ejay songs from high school are less obscure than R. Cajun or Hank Shizzoe.

I think that's pretty skewed, but I think it's because last.fm skews obscure. I have been hanging out in "Indie Dance and Electronica" for the last few months on turntable, and it says I'm at 37% for the last 3 months.

Bob Dylan had a 21.6% obscurity value in Jacob's report. That pretty much says everything.

One's individual obscurity rating is modulo the listening tastes of last.fm users in general. Clearly, the site heavily used by "real" hipsters.

I'm just a tad bit obscurer than Jacob. This thing has a funny way to attribute obscurity. The Oscar Peterson Trio is more obscure than Oscar Peterson. Amazing.

Steely Dan is somehow more obscure than Frank Zappa.

Pffft.

Umm, yeah it's 'cool' to make yourself listen to Zappa even though he sucks. The opposite stigma is attached to Dan, and they still suck.

The Beatles 5x more obscure than Radiohead. Dylan 10x.

"Artist Head-Fi overall obscurity level is 98.7%"
