February 3, 201511 yr Late start here, Haj. The walk from my office to the car (1/4mi) sucked at 4pm. 8 degrees, 20mph wind driven snow straight in my face. No thanks. Driving consisted of trying not to plow into the newly invisible 18 wheeler causing whiteout blindness. Clearing the driveway tomorrow morning (it's still snowing) is not going to be fun. Wind chills are supposed to be somewhere in the negative teens.
February 3, 201511 yr Author That looks awful, Nate. Unfortunately, my district no longer uses delayed opening or early releases due to past problems.
February 8, 201511 yr Author School/work cancelled for tomorrow. It's not looking good for Tuesday either.
February 9, 201511 yr Thankfully the storm appears to be tracking a bit south of us (bad for Haj, sorry man) but we're still on track to get 12"+ by tomorrow night. School is cancelled for Maura and the kids. Me, not so much.
February 9, 201511 yr Sucks Nate (and Haj)! I saw the snowstorm heading your way and felt for ya. Here is our deck/backyard last Monday.
February 9, 201511 yr Everything in CT is closed today, except UConn. They sent out a defiant email saying, in essence, we know we should close, but we have already closed twice this year and we just don't want to do it again.

Ha, my school has already closed 7 days now and we're likely looking at day number 8 tomorrow. EDIT - because I can't count. Edited February 9, 201511 yr by Salt Peanuts
February 9, 201511 yr To put id delicately, if this shit keeps up, I'm going to have to drag out the snow rake.
February 9, 201511 yr I had to look up what a snow rake was. "It looks like there are some cool designs out there." - Said nobody who has ever had to actually use a snow rake.
February 10, 201511 yr Everything in CT is closed today, except UConn. They sent out a defiant email saying, in essence, we know we should close, but we have already closed twice this year and we just don't want to do it again. Mystery of why the university didn't close solved.
February 10, 201511 yr We call the snow rake a roof rake. I am very careful with mine, it looks like it could break pretty easily in this shit. Extends out a good 15+ feet with extensions. In other news, the latest picture of the pile on the back deck, courtesy of wife's phone.
February 10, 201511 yr Mystery of why the university didn't close solved. There's seriously a women's basketball team named the Gamecocks?

February 10, 201511 yr Author Never thought I'd complain about snow days, but my district just cancelled tomorrow. Something about not having enough space to put the damn snow.

February 10, 201511 yr Here's a friend's report from Boston : After the fresh 14", Emergency Snow Parking bans still in effect on throughways. Municipal offices and schools closed for second day in a row. Heavy snow-pack record depth of 37", and total snowfall so far, breaks 70" in just ~17 days. It is also snowiest 30 period on record in Boston. All MBTA rail, subway, commuter train service suspended all day today again. Limited bus service. Sheesh
February 10, 201511 yr Boston is a train wreck, no pun intended. The city received a waiver that allows them to dump the snow directly into the harbor which will help somewhat. The school system is reeling from all this weather and there's talk (in Boston) of cancelling April vacation in order to get in a full year without having to go to school in July, which they can't do anyway because of teacher/union contract issues. I wouldn't be surprised if the state gets pressured into waiving the mandatory 180 school year. They've already had 8 snow days assuming they get back to school tomorrow.
