Wet Shaving

Featured Replies

Hello gentlemen,

I originally posted this topic over at HF and got a couple of replies from those who actually enjoy and the hobby of wet shaving. So now I've come over here to a more refined(?) group of gentlemen who might also partake in the other morning ritual.;)

Ok, so we obviously love our headphone gear and retreat to it at the end of a hard day, so this brings me to how we start our day and by that I mean shaving. For me, there's nothing better than the satisfaction I get out of a good luxurious shave and not to mention getting the day started off right.

My routine to get a great shave starts with the use of a scrub that loosens up all that dead skin and softens the beard for a better overall shave. I then follow that up with a pre-shave lotion. One brand of pre-shave that I've been using with great succsess is Poraso cream which contains menthol and eucalyptus that gives a very cool sensation and feels downright awesome. Next up is the Art of Shaving lemon scented shave cream. With a little dab of this on the end of my badger hair shaving brush and a drop or two of water, I whip a rich creamy lather in my vintage Old Spice shaving mug. Once a lather has been made up, I proceed to paint my face until it comletely covered. I then use my Merkur Classic DE razor and make a first pass with the grain(rincing the razor everyoonce in awhile). I'll lather up again to go across the grain for my second pass to get a little closer shave. I then continue on to wash my face with Urth face wash for an overall clean experience and it also helps with minor cuts I might have given myself. Once i've dried my face with a soft towel I'll then apply a moisturizer which also acts as a aftershave and Bam!...I'm ready to start my day off right.

Inane posts like this are best left back over there (HF) imo...

:kitty:

that's a hobby? what's next, competition finger nail clipping?

Should this be for speed, or distance?

With all due respect, your opinion means jack, but since this is in the off topic section of the forum then this is where inane posts are best suited.

*Rhetorical Question Alert*

Have you read some of the other topics in this forum?

You're right... my opinion doesn't mean jack, but I stated it anyway. And yes, I have read much of this forum and site.

Does the razor require any burn-in and wouldn't a 5+ blade unit be better? U know koz moar iz bettar!!! :palm:

Ok, I'm confused now. Are you calling out Pars or SDM?

just for future reference, if you hadn't framed the OP as some kind of super otaku shit (in other words, you can replace every instance of "wet shaving" with "giant robot manga" or "tentacle train rape," and then replace the little details with appropriate substitutes, and it has that same shrill, overly-enthusiastic-about-everything tone) it might have gone over a bit better.

Being a noob I should expect to take some punches. That's cool, I wouldn't expect no less.

This video clip pretty much sums it up:YouTube - heckleu247's Channel

This is some retarded shit... Pars is on the money :palm:

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you all by calling you gentlemen in my OP.

Me thinks wreks will make you disapear.

The only person that seems to be offended is you. Head-case is self moderating. People have no hesitation to speak their minds, especially in response to posts. That's why the motto here is "Welcome and sorry about your thin skin". People with thin skin usually don't last here. Do you have a thin skin? Getting defensive about responses to your posts implies that you do, but it's still early.

he's just wet behind the ears.

I couldn't see your original image (photobucket block), so I fixed it for me.

There was a reason I had a beard for 20+ years. Always loved that mothers cover 8)

I just can't imagine dedicating that much thought or effort to shaving.

Me neither. Of course, I lot of people I know can't imagine spending so much time and money on the headphone hobby. :o

Of course I only shave once a week so...

Since I've been not working, shaving has been cut in half.

I wish I were able to shave using my nails like Hancock, but in just one minute. I find shaving a waste of time. Every morning the same ritual taking me time from sleeping :palm:

Indeed. I use an electric. Of course I also have a long goatee, so that cuts down on facial space that needs shaving. Haven't even trimmed the goatee for over a year now too. God I love working in academe.

However, I can understand the shaving-as-hobby thing. It's something we have to do (most of us) and if you have to do it, you might as well enjoy it or have some sort of positive outcome.

While out in Vegas this summer I was in one of those malls that connects two casinos. There was an Art of Shaving retail store....I almost went in for the facial shave they offered. Almost, if it wasn't $50 for the shave that is.

I have been considering shaving my head again and because of that, I've been looking into shaving a bit. So it's not that odd that there are multiple forums dedicated to wet shaving.

Hell of a lot better than dry shaving, right.

Whoa whoa whoa... How did we actually start discussing shaving?
