I just got Clementine working on the lappy. It's playing back FLACs, sending scrobbles to last.fm and sucking a lot less than Play does (which is not exactly difficult.) Even after selecting "always open FLACs with Clementine" in the finder, double clicking is still not working right. That's a relatively minor issue, however.

Nice, I think Clementine has good potential to become the best FLAC player on OS X. Not that there's much competition unfortunately. :(

I've been running Windows 7 on my MacBook as my main OS for more than a week now and I have to say OS X really needs more solid software for playing music and videos. Nothing on the Mac side comes close to the greatness of foobar2000, and VLC runs much smoother on Windows for me.

ok, this is annoying.. seems I have one of those mac mini dvd drives that doesn't actually work. Put a disk in and then the mac completely ignores it.. aside from constantly speeding up and down. It wont play, show up or eject. A bit of a common problem after reading around the web. The only to get the damn disk out is to restart with the mouse down. Anyone know of a way to fix this. Not exactly useful as a media machine if it can't even play a dvd.

If you do open a Mini, use a large, sharp kitchen knife, not a putty knife, it's easier. The rest isn't hard, if you can find the correct drive to replace the one in the Mini, which is slightly irregular.

^^^ Or, if you don't want to mess with cracking open the mini, just get external usb optical drive.

Question for the Mac gurus. First, what is your best guess for a Mac Pro refresh? Second, is the 24" Apple display actually worth $799?

By update do you mean when it will be updated? The latest guess/rumor is June/early summer, the last time I checked. It's been over an year since the last update.

As for Apple Display, I've no idea if it's worth the cost. It sure looks pretty, but the only places I've seen it are Apple Stores, where you really can't compare to other displays.

I'd check out the HP 2709m. That's what I went with and am thrilled. I might have a chance to compare side-by-side with the Apple Display, but unless is flashes up subliminal porn out-of-the-box I'm not sure I could justify the cost. If I was interested in a calibrated display, I might consider it, but I'm not, so...

No need for a calibrated display. I do some scientific image capture but absolute color calibration is not necessary.

Basically I can get a nice Mac Pro and if I go with a lesser monitor I can more easily justify a dual display system and some bigger HDs, etc.

It spews out magical unicorn dust.

well f me. The shuffle doesn't have a non-inline volume control? So now, I have the choice of too short of a cable with my iphone or using a shuffle clipped to my lapel that doesn't have a volume control. So far the default volume is okay (I notice there is some sort of slider in itunes) but man, I feel like a fail magnet today.

Went with two HP 2509m. The 2709 would have made my speakers sit too far apart for optimal stereo imaging :D

cool. If they are anything like the 2709m, get ready to turn the brightness WAAYY down...

Web pages started appearing like this on my mac and was wondering if anyone else has been getting anything similar. It's not all sites and doesn't always manifest. Happens on both Firefox and Safari for me. Not much help, I know. =/ Any ideas?

Have you tried clearing cache/cookies? Something similar to that occasionally happens to me, but clearing cache/cookies always fixes the issues (I also get this on my work Windows machine).
