October 16, 200916 yr Thanks for standing up for me Dan You have a low threshold for being stood up for...
October 16, 200916 yr I've always been a douche if that's what you call being a douche But, as Dan and I discussed in chat, you're "our" douche Something to be said for that.
October 16, 200916 yr Just thought I'd update this: A friend of mine in CA contacted Amarra directly, as he was interested in using it with his Alpha DAC. It does definitely work with the optical digital output. Apparently I forgot to follow up with a post, but I asked Sonic and they said that they did add that capability in the last couple months. Thanks for posting the correct info.

October 19, 200916 yr QFT. Those things look sweet. Metric Halo may be another option too. The Metric Halo ULN-2 is the bargain of the century for $1700 (without the DSP installed) $$2400 with DSP. You'll only need the DSP if you plan to use it as a phono pre, want to mess around with EQ or plan on recording stuff with it. Great DAC but Dinny you've gone this far, sell off your DAC harem and get a ULN-8.
October 19, 200916 yr You can order the OLN-2 with "creamy Jensen Transformer goodness" from their website. I thought about getting one of these to take firewire from the Mac Mini and into my chosen DAC via AES/EBU.
October 19, 200916 yr I wonder if it's worth supplying the ULN-2 with better power? I power mine off the firewire port of my mac mini. There is an ability to use a separate ps, probably a walwart, not sure as mine did not come with one.
October 19, 200916 yr I power mine off the firewire port of my mac mini. There is an ability to use a separate ps, probably a walwart, not sure as mine did not come with one. The specs say that it can take 9V-30V DC for a power supply, if I end up with a spare sigma11 I'll try to configure it appropriately and then one of you can take the Pepsi
October 19, 200916 yr I wonder if it's worth supplying the ULN-2 with better power? yes, please get to work on it :jbl::jbl: seriously I'd take one of your bullet proof power supplies as I swear they made the apogee mini dac moar better
October 20, 200916 yr yes, please get to work on it :jbl::jbl: seriously I'd take one of your bullet proof power supplies as I swear they made the apogee mini dac moar better Absolutely, I have one of his 12v Sigma 11 for my Mini-DAC and it is very well done.
October 31, 200916 yr For those of you waiting for Version 1.1. It has been released and seems to be playing ALAC just fine in my system. Also added digital volume controls to the Mini. Amarra Computer Music Player Edited October 31, 200916 yr by VPI
October 31, 200916 yr Author And they added QB-9 qualification. Hmmm. Do, or do not? I know there's a much cheaper Mac-focused "Amarra killer" in the pipeline right now, but with software that could mean it's still a year out.

October 31, 200916 yr Author Mike, it's still nudge-nudge wink-wink at this point, but my understanding is it'll be using the Wave Editor/Izotope platform. Based on their other stuff, I'd expect it to kick Amarra's ass in terms of application design. Which, let's be honest, is not hard. Amarra is butt ugly and chews through RAM like Dinny goes through DACs. How it will sound, of course, is another question entirely. But Wave Editor is $80, so they've got plenty of room to undercut Amarra Mini, let alone the full Amarra suite.
October 31, 200916 yr I know it is probably just in my head but I think the new version might actually sound better than the previous version.
