i'm on a roll... the kgsshv

I see the jumper bypasses the pieces that can be omitted. I am wondering if there are any problems if said pieces are installed, some or all. (I already installed D12 and D13 huh.png although no big deal I can remove them.Just curious though.

Just cut them out flash on both sides of the board.

  • After 5 years from the time I acquired the PCBs and parts, I finally took advantage of the free time created by the pandemic and completed my KGSSHV.  This is the offboard version with +/-500V supply.

  • Not sure if we have a KGSS thread but I'll just post this here.  So last year it dawned on me that I built my first KGSS amp 15 years ago and something had to be done to celebrate that.  It started of

I am looking at the schematics of the psu from lil knight's bom (dont have my boards yet)- the zener on top of the 15k beside beside the zener 1n4007 has not been marked? Can someone enlighten me which value it is please?

It too is a 1N4007. Neither of those diodes are zeners,

they are just straight rectifier diodes.

What BOM / schematic are you looking at?

Mine show the values for both.

Ok tks. I must looking at an older schematic. A little confusing for me as there have been changes along the way. I will wait for my actual boards to arrive.

Thank you Dr. Gilmore. On a separate note could you advise whether it is ok to mount the onboard version on the side of the casing to fit everything into one box, assuming that the box is tall enough to accept the boards, as I understand that off board version is more challenging to build due to the mounting of the side mount heatsinks?

I think he means using the on board heatsinks but simply mounting the board itself vertically on the side rather than horizontally on the bottom of the case. In which case that should be fine, but your case is going to have to be something like 7+ inches tall. The heatsinks won't work as effectively either as they are designed to be vertical. Also the heat from the bottom row of sinks will rise to the top row and heat them up.

That reminds me of a 300 watt shunt regulator power supply i built for a dynahi a while ago.

Way to big.

nothing prevents you from using the other boards, and then making angle brackets like the

T2, thats way easier than precision drilling and tapping holes on the heatsink.

I got an update from Mouser and the 2SC4686A's should be in stock on Feb 13.

Lil knight, please check your inbox, sent you a pm regarding the missing boards from my group buy order.

I was looking at the way the amplifier boards were mounted by Greg and Andy.

It seems to me Andy's way may be easier to service if any troubleshooting or desoldering is needed.

Another KGSSHV off-board up and running thanks to Greg (Horio).

I'm really impressed by the sound so far. The 009s sound sooo crisp.

The sound reminds me a bit of a baby version of Voltron's T2.

Hopefully I'll get a chance to bring it up to Kerry's sometime in the future for a comparison with the KGBH.

Edit: Thanks again to everyone who put the time in to making the KGSSHV happen.

Wicked good. I bet your engrossed in your 009's. Outstanding casework on both builds.

I quite like your design aesthetic TMoney. It reminds me of Nugget Audio's simplistically beautiful designs.

Nice!

We'll definitely have to schedule some time to do some comparisons :D

How do I attain the PCB?

I think at this point, you're going to have to see if anyone has a spare set they would sell you.
