This whole Connecticut shooting today really has my hackles up. I can't help but think that if the victims, or in this case the teachers, were armed that there would be fewer casualties when a person snaps and goes on a rampage somewhere. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/12/14/police-respond-to-shooting-at-connecticut-elementary-school/ What in the world would drive someone to shoot and kill 20 innocent elementary school children !?!??!?!

Post #200! I haven't had much time to check in here lately, so I didn't spot my birthday thread until today. It birthday went well, almost as well as my wedding, May 10th!!! A brief summary: The weather was perfect, not a single cloud in the sky and hardly any wind. The minister (who happens to be my father-in-law) held a touching ceremony. Our hired photographers did an outstanding job (it seemed, haven't seen the processed pictures yet). The reception went well. The chef made a delicious meal, the wedding cake was gorgeous and I managed to pull off a decent wedding speech for the bride despite being pretty nervous (btw, sleep is overrated the night before the …

I figured some of you do enough of this that it might be worth asking here. I need to rebuild the steps going into our house from the garage and would like to do some similar to the ones a friend has in his house. These appear to be box steps? Any ideas as to where I could find some plans for something similar to these? Thanks, Chris

So I saw the thread Zanth started over at HF and thought hell, why not do our own CD/LP exchange here? I thought for a few seconds about signing up at the HF thread but I would personally much rather exchange with HC-ers over HF-ers. Luminette ran this last year so I thought I'd continue the trend this year. Anyone unfamiliar with how this works can refer to Zanth's thread at HF: Sign Up! For the 2009 Annual Head-fi Holiday Gift Exchange! - Head-Fi: Covering Headphones, Earphones and Portable Audio This participant list can be found here. The pairings are as follows: 4 50 Asr <> Torpedo 21 6 Fitz <> blessingx 11 3 Dash <> Aimless1…

As many of you saw, Jeff had signed up for a TdC in Virginia, as it's a cause near and dear to him. It just so happens we're having a ride in Chattanooga on May 18th, and with Jeff and other friends in mind, I was one of the first people to sign up for this one. I plan on training to do the 40 mile ride, which I think is doable in the 3-4 weeks I have, and having a good cause is worth me pushing a bit further, a bit longer than I normally do. http://main.diabetes.org/goto/BrentLawson My goals aren't quite as lofty as Jeff's, but I'm hoping to raise $500 over the weeks leading up to the ride. My work is sponsoring the event, and we have a nice little team so f…

I'm going there this fall for U of C's MA program, and I'm just wondering if anyone here knows anything about the neighborhood, like where it's good to eat/drink, which areas to avoid. Really, any knowledge is appreciated.

My girlfriend's office was moved to a different part of the floor and ever since the move she has had massive headaches and all the typical symptoms of an allergic reaction. It affected her to the point where she was doing 20% of the work that she normally did in a day and felt better after taking anti histamines (benadryl) and leaving the office. She requested HR to send out an email requesting the employees not wear perfume to work as there were a few that were bathing in it. That didn't seem to stop it. She went to a physician to get her blood tested and for an allergy test (nothing came up on the blood test other than low calcium). No scratch test was done because she…

This is kind of sad. She did a lot of good with that site. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57599288-38/surveillance-concerns-bring-an-end-to-crusading-site-groklaw/ The story sort of implies, indirectly, that she must think that corporations can break GPGP. That would be news to me. I thought it wasn't really established that the government could do that on any meaningful scale.
