Hey- In the past three years I've held various branch level positions at a monster mega bank. The pay has been decent enough for a single person with no mortgage or other major debt to speak of, but I've long since grown weary of the job, and to be perfectly honest without trying to sound arrogant, I'm too smart for this job. I very recently finished my degree in English. My original intention was to pursue further education and a life in academia, but that no longer feels like the right path. So I'm considering going to part time or no time and returning to school for a completely different degree. I'm considering either Accounting or Computer Science. I'm v…

Oh, dear. http://news.cnet.com/8301-13645_3-20029913-47.html via: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?p=607150 My take. The information content of losslessly compressed file and the original is identical. Try comparing the md5 hash of the source, and the expanded compressed file, or do a bitwise diff to see if that is the case. (Poor analogy: a word file reads the same, if came as a .doc file or contained in a .zip file) I think he's confusing the data container with the playback system, or succumbing to expectation bias: So while lossless audio compression (FLAC or Apple Lossless for example) can be "expanded" to produce an exact digital…

  13. Republican Voters Stay Home Anti-Incumbency Wins? By J.B. Williams If I could get a dollar for every time we are going to hear the word ?mandate? in the next 72 hours, I could get out of Dodge and retire to a Caribbean island in style, where I wouldn?t have to endure this? Speaker Elect Pelosi and Senate Leader Elect Reid are two of the most anti-American socialist members of Congress - now in control of Congress. They can thank Republican voters for their new-found power, but they won?t. They will jam it up their bumm instead? Five of nine registered voters are registered Republican, making it a numerical impossibility for socialist Democrats to win power in…

So since I'm in college, on a extremely limited fund of money, I tend to download music when I'm searching for new things to listen to. I saw that there was Pedro's BTMusic Tracker that has everything in flac, which is great, but you need to get invited to join. Is anyone on this forum who has an account there, and if so, would you be willing to send me a invitation? Thanks, Dave

  21. For some reason I've been asking myself this question over the past couple of weeks and have enjoyed thinking about it. I'll preface this by acknowledging that it's an impossible question to answer and I don't expect anything resembling a conclusion to be made. I only intend to spark debate--hopefully. I whittled down my list to Chekhov, Beckett, Borges, Cervantes and Kafka. I finally settled on Chekhov for his ability to shape his stories on simply how we think in contrast to how we behave and ultimately how we feel about it. He distilled the human condition into it's most basic and most recognizable state seemingly without artifice. I haven't learned more about peop…
