Hey everyone- I'm in a bit of a pickle. I've run out of kick ass speculative fiction to read, and I need recommendations. Sci-fi/fantasy is such a scary genre to navigate. One second a book's premise seems promising, but then it delves into childish writing and predictable situations. I'm a short way into Peter Brett's The Warded Man, and it reminded me of these types of pitfalls. Of course it is hard to trust amazon-type reviews of fantasy, because not all fantasy readers are as discerning as me, you, and everyone else who likes good things. The Skipper is Mal. There are Gilligan traits in both Jayne and Wash; professor traits in both Simon and Book. The contrast of Ginger's glam and Mary Ann's plain-ness in Inara & Kaylee (and in both cases, there is still a friendship/comraderie). I have no idea who Mr. and Mrs. Howell would be associated with, but Simon definitely has an air of nobility/snobbiness about him, so perhaps Simon/River. Zoe doesn't really have a counterpart, other than she's sort of the second in command. But there are more characters in Firefly/Serenity, so of course they're not going to all match up. ...or maybe it's Lost In Space... Thoughts?

All these familiar names, I think I just stepped over to the dark side.

So last night I went to my wife's office Christmas party. There I met her supervisor and the supervisor's husband who also works there....yeah, he and his wife work together. Turns out she was his assistant until she got pregnant....then she was promoted and became his wife. ANYWAY.... the husband is quite possibly the biggest douchebag I've ever met...nay, he's a meta-douchebag. He is the douchebag from which all other douchebags are determined. I need to quit this stupid sleeplessness i got from studying wednesday after doing an all nighter.. omg help.. I cannot sleep.. Actually I can, but its hard. anyone have any suggestions? If there is one thing I learned this is.. that is WILL POWER.. u can do anything possible with it as long as you try, so I can still wake up and go on with my daily activities without fatigue at all but it has to stop today. I've ended insomnia easily just by sleeping and closing my eyes.. but just wondering how you guys treat it?

OK...this may be a stupid question but I've been wondering about it. I own a 13" Mac Air that I've had for years and I use it mostly for this kind of stuff. Surfing, email, posting, music, etc... I can type pretty good so I really like the Mac for this kind of stuff. I find using my old iPad mini a PITA due to the typing. Same thing surfing with my iPhone. So....what are thoughts on getting an iPad Pro and getting a keyboard for it and using it as a replacement for the laptop? I'll likely keep the Air, at least for a while, as I like it and I don't need to sell it. But if the iPad is going to frustrate my efficiency in getting around the web and emailing, then …
