No doubt there will be plenty of announcements at CES 2012 of interest to us, so I thought I'd start a thread to keep track of the headphones announced at the show . Who knows, maybe we can encourage Tyll, or other visitors to get a closer look for us. I'll start off with something interesting (thanks to google translate) Sennheiser introduces the high-end HD 700 Headphones google webcache of (pulled) B&H had it priced @ $999.95

  3. I've just been through about 2 days of searching high and low for a pair of nice headphones, i'm seeing sparkles around my head right now due to the HUGE amount of infos all over the net and the Vast numbers of reviews leaning either way on pretty much every single pair of cans I look at... Hence posting here is like a cry for help, last resort kind of thing for me. Would really appreciate any suggestions/opinions/directions you could offer! I'll get right into what I'm looking for: Used for: Mostly on the Computer (Music, Movies and Gaming) as well as PS3 gaming, maybe ipod(at home) Main use is at home, so portability is not an issue. I have the ME2i for my on th…

  5. Hi all, I should buy a pair of in-ear headphones, High-end (120 to 200 €) for my good old creative zen x-fi 16GB. Whereas I usually listento classical music, jazz, old rock and healthy, in essence, I need some earphones quite linear, and not the usual unbalanced bass! the choice is between these: Sony MDR EX600 Sony MDR EX-700 HiFiMan RE-262 Shure SE315 What I need is a justified comparison between the selected models. Thanks to all

  7. Ok, so I had a pair of Koss UR-40 headphones and broke them. Now I am in the market for a new pair. I am not a big audiophile but I do like what I am listening to to sound good. I have a larger head (mainly in the width) as well as medium to larger size ears. I like my headphones to completely surround my ears. Anything sitting directly on my ears tends to become uncomfortable after a little while. I am also looking for something lightweight. I don't really want to notice them on my head. The headphones will be used primarily for listening to music on my PC with occasional use on my phone for mp3 playback. I listen to a range of music from classical to heavy me…

I was originally thinking about getting the hd 558, 598, or the 595, but they are open ear and aren't very portable. I'm looking for: folding, around ear, closed, 200$ or less, and preferably decent bass. That might be a lot of specifics but I need help finding the right headphones. Any ideas? Thank you! Dylan

I have a friend who asked me a headphone question that I couldn't answer. He has a pair of Ety ER4P and recently got shocked in the ear while wearing them (he was walking and was wearing a fleece if that is relevant). I haven't ever experienced this myself. Is this not abnormal or should he contact Etymotic about it? Sounds painful.

I thought you guys would get a kick out of it, and more than any other group of people I hope it please you all. And more than any other group I'd love to hear what you think about it. Whitney's got my LCD3s right now and they are slated to go to Christian next week. I put Frank on the list because I know he is interested (he hasn't gotten back to me). Let me know if anyone in the Bay Area wants to borrow them for a week. Maybe a couple more slots - I'm not itching to get them back soon or anything. I would prefer that they be picked-up or dropped-off rather than mailed. I figure this would be a good way for folks to hear the most perfect headphones evar! Its announcement has seemed to have been ignored here, but IMO, this is a very special headphone. I own the W1000X, and acknowledge its faults, but there is no comparison between the two. If you love opera, female vocals, chamber music, etc. I am sure you will love the W3000ANV.

I searched for the best and pretty bass heavy headphones under $200. I narrowed down my search to: Denon AH-D1100 and D2000(I have somewhere to buy it for $200) Ultrasone 580 and 780 V-Moda Crossfades LP I want to know which one is best for: DnB Dubstep Techno Rock/Metal Rap I want a bass close to overpowering but not overpowering. A nice soundstage is nice too. I also need an amp and DAC or amp alone for less than $120,recommendations? It has to include a bass boost(the MoaR the better.)

  15. Dear All, I love to listen to music, like all of us, for a few years now I have Audio Note E boxes and 2A3 PSE amp. Love the detailed, but still relaxing sound of it. A good balance between details and sweetness. With other words, I like the sound of an Audiolab 8000A, but can not listen to it for more than like 30 minutes. Also like the sound of the 300B tubes, but too sweet for me, hide details. Recently, I can not listen too much to speakers, I must use headphones. I have an old Sennheiser HD 565 ovation, what I have tried to change sometimes, but I could not. I have tried HD600, I liked the bass (the 565 weakness), but also the soundstage got more narrow, at the mid…

  16. Hello there, My old headphones (Gamecom Plantronics 367) just broke after about a year of usage and they vere amazing considering the price (25£ with postage), but now I need some new ones. I have a budget of about 100£ in total, since I'm a student so money is hard to come by (I'm gonna have to go without lunch for about a month to afford this, but it's worth it.. I haven't had music in months) So my question is, what should I get? Here are my priorities in order: #1 sound quality. If I can get some with better sound than the Gamecom ones I had, I will be in heaven. #2 durability. I really want them to not.. you know.. break easily. I bring my headphones with me at…

Hey, Yesterday I bought Shure SRH - 440 headphones. I read somewhere that with the SRH840 pads the headphones are more comfortable and the sound is better. Would you recommend to replace the ear pads to the SRH840 ones or the SRH940 one ? Which one of the pads is better ? more comfortable and better sound quality ? Thank you, Noam

I'm having trouble with intermittent signal loss due to problem at strain relief/cable entry. If I hold the cable near the strain relief and twist it, I can get the signal back, so naturally I'm guessing that something is loose. The problem is that I have no idea how to take the strain relief apart, let alone any experience with a soldering iron to fix it. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to get this fixed? I've noticed that Yama's is not the best place to go, and besides this pair is beyond its Japanese-only warranty period. I'm cool with a whole recable or something like that, but I don't see any examples of work done on any of the small-time headphone cabling sho…

A pair of HE60 was given to me by a Thai friend. The phones must have been in storage for a long time as the vinyl on the ear pads come flaky off. So, I have to disassemble and clean the interior. Taking this opportunity, I take a few pictures. The diaphragm to stator distance is around 0.5 mm. There is nothing special on the stator surface. But since it's my birthday, maybe someone can help without whipping me for being so stupid and lazy... "Hey Wayne. Can you recommend a set of in-ear monitor for my motorcycle helmet communication system in the $200 ballpark. I’m not listening to music on them; purely for Atom use for driver <-> passenger communication, and the occasional phone call. I’m looking for something that I can comfortably wear inside a helmet for hours at a time. Thanks. Nick. PS. How are you, I haven’t heard from you in a while." 24. In the "Measurements" thread, everyone could see that top-tier electrostatic and isodynamic headphones are more similar than different, having similar FR, CSD, square wave and impulse responces, isodynamics sometimes having better measured parameters. However, their sound is not the same. I have thought of 3 moments that seem to make difference between them. I must warn everyone from the start that I'm no specialist in these areas and everything below is wild speculation. 1) Air resistance and open area. ES drivers use very thin stator plates with high open area - more than 50%, it seems. There is minimum amount of trapped air and minimum stored energy. Isodynami…

  25. So it's time for me to build a new home rig. I haven't been keeping up with the new stuff much. I stopped looking at gear around when the HD800 was FotM. I've been enjoying my ES3X for quite some time now but have been missing having proper cans. My budget is around $3k for cans and an amp. I might be able to stretch it to $4k, but would really prefer to keep it down. I will probably be building a DAC over the winter/spring. DIY isn't out of the question as I'm not in a RUSH to have a setup. (sooner the better though ) I will mostly listen to classical and folk when it's not just background noise. So as far as options I was thinking of these: HD800 or…
