Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by Rossliew,

Anyone tried the L700 with any of the KGSSHV/KGST/BHSE amps? Wonder if it will sound moar awesome as compared to just driving them with a Stax amp..

  2. Started by humanflyz,

As much as I like my K1000 setup, I can't lie down with them, so I started looking for "normal" headphones. I really had no specific trait of what to look for, since sonically I was pretty satisfied with the K1000. I basically just bought whatever I felt like, and it's more exciting this way. I bought the W5000s first because I've been curious about the Audio-Technica high-end. Later I bought the HD650s, since I've never had them, and I feel like I should give them a chance because they are one of, if not the, most popular audiophile cans still in production. Since I'm stuck at my parents' house over the winter break, I had the chance to go back and forth and do some care…

Since when did Nixon make headphones? link They're probably OEM'd, but then again, I doubt their watches are OEM'd, so maybe not. But then again, their specialty is watches, so of course their watches aren't OEM'd, so it's still possible that everything else they sell (clothes, bags, cufflinks, etc.) is. But I certainly don't recognize them, so if anyone has any theories on the subject -- much less heard them -- please speak up. No, I'm not getting them -- way too expensive to try just for whimsy.

  4. Post POST? Wtfruitcake? It was 2007(damn, 2009 already? damn), and I just HAD to get me a K701. Being that God is too great, I got them!!! Being that God is even GREATER THAN THAT, I had the DT 880'250'05 on hands to compare the TWO headphones at the same time...which resulted in the K701 being sold after 220-250(I forget, Sowwy) hours of conventional and pink noise burn-in. Well, WHY did I sell them so soon? Not only did I find the K701's soundstage less natural than the DT 880's(albeit, noticeably bigger than the latter can's soundstage), but the bass heft was seriously missing in the AKG TOTL can. As a born-to-play video gamer. Did I find this lack of lo…

Hey, I've recently stumbled upon someone selling Beats By Dre Pro for about 200 bucks. Seems like a bargain doesn't it? I know Beats aren't the best headphones, but I'd be happy to buy them for 200 bucks. He claims they are original and still in good condition. Says he has a receipt too. But you just can't be sure enough with all these fakes nowadays. In my opinion they seem pretty legit, but I'm just a newb. Can someone give me their opinion, do you think these Beats By Dre Pro are genuine? If you need more pictures to verify, please tell me. I'll ask him for some more. What do you guys think about these headphones? I owned a used pair for a while, but I didn't feel the sound and build quality justified the price (for example vs. sr009 or omega II). I thought they had great sound stage, good detail and a nice balanced sound. No sibilance issues and non-fatiguing. I found the mids a bit thin and in my system they sounded muddy until I turned up the volume to a bit higher than I prefer. The pads get pretty hot after a bit of use. My wife wasn't a fan of them, citing vocals as lacking 'crispness'. I think they are still one of the top headphones I've listened to so I'd recommend giving them a listen. Biggie.

After nearly a year with the W5000, it was time for some new woodie love! I wasn't sure if I would like them soundwise, based on the many various comments, but I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. What a great midrange!

  8. Started by postjack,

This is just something I've been tinkering with in my head, not something I'm actually going to do at this point. But I decided to start this thread to see if the idea has any value, and also just to bounce it off all of your heads to look at it from every angle. Has anyone ever heard a reterminated balanced hp-1000 out of a true balanced rig? Even if not, any idea of the potential sonic benefits this could bring? Would it be worth messing with the JGUHBWLSJDYEWLCAQ cable? So far, the HP-2 is the only can I've heard that I like well enough to build a whole system around. Except maybe the HD650.

Greetings all. Need suggestions for new headphones to look into with the following criteria. - Under $80 - Decent sound - Decent construction, ie. able to take some in bag abuse - Closed design - Not insanely large I'm a big fan of Grado's and use them at home, but the open design doesnt work well in a loud train. In ear plugs, though light, tend to die the good death in my bag. Cheers - Thanks in advance

  11. Man, that ringing still won't go away. It's not bad, fairly low level, but it's persistant. Went to see the doctor and told him I got some new headphones; he said "Oh, what kind?" As soon as I said Sennheiser, he got this look on his face, and it wasn't good. "You get them out, turn them up a bit, hey they aren't distorting, let's turn them up, they sound so good, so up, and up, and up." Apparently these things are popular with his clientele... Hollywood types. This would be just my luck... ten years standing in front of LOUD amps at gigs with the volume up so loud it shook the building. Years with the car radio so loud you could hear it down the street. One week with…

So my bro wants IEMs between 200 and 300 bucks that have substantial amounts of bass. I'm not necessarily talking about the tight, coherent bass that many of us like, but rather the bloated one-note bass that the kids seem to love so much. As a point of reference, he liked the super.Fi 5 EB, but they're too bid for his taste. Whaddya think?

  13. Started by HiWire,

It looks like Engadget has the scoop (Head-Fi hype aside) on these cans: http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/11/v-moda-m-100-audiophile-headphones-hands-on-interview-val-kolton/ I wonder how they'll compare to my brother's new Beyerdynamic DT 1350's.

  14. I ' m new here Who can recommend me the headset by dr dre ?

  15. Hello there, My old headphones (Gamecom Plantronics 367) just broke after about a year of usage and they vere amazing considering the price (25£ with postage), but now I need some new ones. I have a budget of about 100£ in total, since I'm a student so money is hard to come by (I'm gonna have to go without lunch for about a month to afford this, but it's worth it.. I haven't had music in months) So my question is, what should I get? Here are my priorities in order: #1 sound quality. If I can get some with better sound than the Gamecom ones I had, I will be in heaven. #2 durability. I really want them to not.. you know.. break easily. I bring my headphones with me at…

  16. Started by HiWire,

For the purposes of scientific discovery, I am tempted to acquire a set of K702 to hear if you can get blood from a stone. The K701 that I have heard at meets are strangely resistant to presenting a lifelike sound. I know that these cans have many (deluded) proponents, but, like Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa, I trust my feelings. Is anyone running a K701 or K702 out of a beating valve-based system? I wonder if the only way to get a lame duck to fly is to feed it sweet, sweet harmonic distortion. TL;DR - curious headphone cat is curious

Yeah, me neither, never heard of them. Then some distributor in New Jersey contacts me and says I should hear them. "They're like the Beats Solo HD but better!" Yeah right. Using those headphones as a reference sure gets me excited ... not. Then they show up. Look a LOT like Solos. Sound and measure like pure gold though, baby! Woot! This is a seriously good headphone. They're available here at Amazon for $99.

Hello, I'm going to build a new system, and I need your experience . Let's begin by saying that currently this is my setup: FLAC -> SB Live! 5.1 -> SONY MDR-V150 which I consider to be real high-end (in fact it comes to an end). Anyway, I just wanted to step-up, and by reading many comments and reviews, I decided this would have been my next setup: FLAC -> ESI Juli@ -> Cambridge Audio 840C -> AMB Audio Beta22 Balanced -> APureSound V3 Balanced -> Sennheiser HD-650 Here are some informations: - I like to listen to different genres of music. Particularly I like Classical music (but I listen to Electronica, Rock, Metal and Jazz, too)…

  19. Some years ago I bought a Micro Seiki MX-1 with energizer. The problem with those is that the material that was originally used for the diaphragms deteriorates. As a result it is impossible to find a pair that still works unless the diaphragms have been replaced. The pair that I bought had a new pair of diaphragms but they were not mounted correctly so I finished the job and got them to work. The problem with them is that because of incorrect mounting of the membrane on one of the mounting rings, which has insufficient tension, one of the two sides has a bit less volume and sounds a little less dynamic. Despite that fact they are still a pleasure to listen to. They sound …

Well I finally have a little spare cash, so I have at long last ordered a set of K-701?s. I had one of the first sets on loan from AKG last fall (To take to the NY meet), and I fell in love with them. I think that they are the bestest headphones made. Soon I?ll think about re-cabling them. I wonder what wire I should use? Now all I have to do is wait until they get here.

It sounds so good out of a good amp and source (ppx3-slam nos tubes), but at the same time so good even out of a simple circuit portable. So sweeet with Clapton Unplugged, no harsh treble at all. Does anyone know what Powermax (if thats the name of the company) was selling them before the drama bomd ensued? edit: $530

https://www.electric-kingdom.net/post/behringer-releases-clone-of-beyerdynamic-dt-770-studio-reference-headphones See, this is why I hate Behringer, they reverse engineer technology, and then undercut the original. I’m alright with it when the technology is long since out of the market, as is the case with many of their synthesizers, but this is ubiquitous! Grr...

Ignoring the suggested retail prices, and the headphones selected... I found it interesting to see the trend in HeadRoom's updated "Ultimate Head Phone" guide. I seem to remember that it used to contain some bargain contenders.... but as $1000 becomes the norm for "flag ships" I see that they only slip two or three choices under the 1k mark now, and the bulk of the pack heading north of $1200. http://www.headphone.com/selection-guide/top-picks/ultimate-headphones.php
