Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Hi y'all, Having a bit of a conundrum with my Stax SR-007 Mk1 (S/N 71169) electrostatic earspeaker. As reported in another HC thread of mine (decided to start a new one here because this was getting quite off-topic there), the right driver's inner dust cover somehow got torn and hence some pretty serious mold damage took place inside. As a result, a rather severe channel imbalance ensued. Opening up the driver for cleaning and assessing the extent of the damage revealed that the diaphragm coating got affected. After having a look at the Japanese Stax repair page (with the help of Google Translate), I learned that Any international inquiry regarding servi…

Guys, just notice today that my HF-2 emits a buzzing sound when the notes hit a mid note. Like when the piano note hits, the driver buzz. Anyone experience this before ? Is there a way to fix this or should send to Grado for repair ? I hate sending it cause I live in the other part of the world.....but if push comes to shove...... Thanks

  5. This is probably not the appropriate topic as it's not a picture of my rig, but I didn't want to create a separate thread for this... and it's a picture of a headphone after all. What is you guys' opinion on this, aesthetics alone? I'm a (soon to be) designer and this is my graduation project – the first prototype is going to be built soon. It's more of a mass market product rather than an audiophile oriented thing though, so take that as you will.

"Stop pretending to be a rap star." Leather & metal closed dynamics. Reasonably attractive looking. They have a kickstarter. Higher amounts get you an actual pair of cans. I know one guy in LA who has a set and claims to love them, but he's much more of a gamer than an audio snob.

I've come to a crossroads, when I was somewhat forced into downgrading to one phone some of the sting was taken out of it because I thought I'd found the perfect all-rounder for my preferences and budget in the E500's. I'm a bit of a basshead, I like my mids as well and I?m quite sensitive to sibilance so the overall balance of the E500's suits me, I know it's not the perfect phone and there's better on the market but I've always found them to be a satisfying listen that has allowed me to focus on the music not the equipment. Although the E500's satisfy me sonically I recently fell victim to the cable cracking problem, not only that but one of the soft plastic pieces a…

I have a friend who asked me a headphone question that I couldn't answer. He has a pair of Ety ER4P and recently got shocked in the ear while wearing them (he was walking and was wearing a fleece if that is relevant). I haven't ever experienced this myself. Is this not abnormal or should he contact Etymotic about it? Sounds painful.

My late 90's RS-1, which is my absolute favorite headphones (I don't know what words to use; is it a trouser or a pair; if anybody should know it should be me) in the world, need to be fixed. I think it's just a solder joint that became brittle. They have been like this for a while, but I could sort of nudge them. I called Grado about replacing the cable, and the woman (I assume a Grado relative, given her accent) could not promise that the drivers would't be replaced. In fact, she immediately mentioned that the drivers would be replaced, and I had to question her on that. The drivers have been blown into plenty of times. It's that sort of thing. Like a Rolex or …

  21. I have recently been playing with the new sennheiser HD25 Aluminium 25th Anniversary edition Trimmed I have, since listening to them, pulled them apart to see what other changes they have made. The headband and cable are pretty much the same as the HD25-1 mk II but they have silver text on the headband and flatter hinged in aluminium to match the earcups. The cable clamp is now held in place with black t6 screws rather than silver philips screws which makes them a little trickier to pull apart as you can not longer use a standard screwdriver. Inside, the drivers seem to be identical and have the same impedance but have a different holographic seal on them. T…

  22. I was clicking on some old links to Walt Jung articles and it took me the the xpress homepage instead. I spotted this: http://audioxpress.com/article/New-Hybrid-Electrostatic-Headphones-and-Tube-Hybrid-Headphone-Amplifier-from-ENIGMAcoustics.html I don't know what to make of the headphones, but why is there only a render if they're supposedly due out in May? The Dharma D1000 headphone takes full advantage of ENIGMAcoustics’ SBESL (Self-Biased Electrostatic) technology, offering electrostatic transparency, focus, and inner detail without the need for an external energizer to provide a polarizing voltage. Instead, the bias voltage is derived from the signal itse…

How come every headphone review has at least one "bass goes really deep" yada yada type comment. Most recordings don't even have deep bass on them and even many of the nice cans we enjoy gently roll off down there. Even worse is how every interconnect comparison within a review ends up with the new interconnect being a bit more extended in the highs and the lows. Can I get a review of my review of bullshit reviews now? Biggie.

Hello everyone, I'm kind of new here, but I was hoping I could find some help. From browsing the boards it seems that most of the people here are very serious about their gear and are often using it professionally, but I was hoping to get advice on a more day to day use headphone for a moderate user. I'm basically looking for a headphone under $200 that is comfortable, light (doesn't apply too much pressure and doesn't feel heavy on the neck), and easy to wear for extended periods of time. Most of the headphones I've used also tend to make my ears warm up, so a headphone that is kind of cool would be better. I prefer circumaural headphones, but I'm not sure if I ha…

  25. Hey all. I'm a grad student at UCLA trying to gather anonymous data from the group of people who really know what they're talking about (you all) when it comes to headphones for a class project. In return I'll be able to share with the Head Case community some really interesting insights about everything from features to preferred brands. If you can take 5 minutes to help me out, I'll be eternally grateful and I'll send out the results when it's all done - check out the questions here: http://ucla.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0k3nRTJjJtflEiN Thank you thank you thank you!!!
