Grok Headphones in Fullness

  1. Started by Dusty Chalk,

Alright, you know me -- black is beautiful. So what should my short list be? Besides the O2's, which I will be getting at some point, just because they're black. Second best? I think it's a toss-up -- until I get my customized DT880, I won't know for sure, but at some point, I'm going to go through all the options and buy one. There would still be two places that it isn't black -- the cover, and the personalizable tabs. Either that, or the Audio Technica A950Ltd. I already have that one, so I'll probably keep both.

Hi everyone, I figure i would post this in the Headphones section so it can get the most traffic Because of the desire of a real-time chat about headphones, audio and general stuff, I invite you all to join our irc chatroom. We have over 30 members, most of which are active head-fi and head-case members and mods, and we have been around for almost 2 years already. Our chat and the mods are completely easygoing, you won't find any "headfi-like" behaviour in any way. You can talk about whatever you want! To join the channel with your browser, go to http://hhfjava.hopto.org http://hhfjava.sytes.net (corrected by grawk because null is a dumbass) However, If y…

Hi Im looking for headphones for under 100 bucks im interested in anything thats good and is portable as well as i tend to commute alot daily Im looking at 2 headphones in particular is Sennheiser HD 380 Pro Collapsible High end Headphones - Black http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sennheiser-HD-380-Pro-Collapsible/dp/B001UE6I0G/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368134475&sr=8-1&keywords=sennheiser+380 or Sony V55 Headphones http://addnow.co.uk/sony-v55-headphones Any recommendations?

  4. They say it's a replacement plan that covers accidental damage so if I were to drop them and they don't work or break I'm covered which is what I want..But I normally take good care of my stuff and really don't see myself ever dropping them. What do you guys think? I think it will cost anywhere from $14.99 to $29.99

  5. The shure se530's came in today. Was able to play with them a good chunk of time due to no school. I mainly was using my moth si2a3/45H with meridian as I am still waiting on my new 6g ipod to come in. The fit is excellent to my ears, nice and easy to insert, stays in place, and all the tips work just fine. I would say the triple flange is really awkward and I probably won't bother with it anymore because it places it too far out the ear. I tried the small rubber ones and the medium sized olive foam I believe, those are the ones I like so far. The olive foam though seems to fit in more snug and seems to isolate much better, though the smaller rubber tips go in and…

  6. Alright this comparison arose out of complete boredom My Melos SHA-1 has two headphone outs and I keep the KSC75 (screen modded) plugged in at all times to act as a dummy load for the amp when it's turned on, and then plug the HP-2 (flats) in after the tubes have warmed up. Today I forgot to unplug the KSC75 and noticed they were still plugged in after I was about half way through one of the discs. So I decided to do some switching between my HP-2 and the KSC75 Also I'll say I used only one album for this comparison. My friend let me borrow his Martin Scorsese Presents The Blues box set (which is great, albeit very condensed) so I was rocking out to this all after…

Hello, sorry my english. I have a "koss PortaPro's" and really like the sound quality of this phone. But now I want to buy a headset "In-ear". So I ask: Is there any headset "Earbuds & In-Ear" with quality "equal or better" to the Koss Porta Pro? Purchased a "Philips SHE9000" but I was extremely disappointed. The quality of this phone is terrible. Researched some models of phone, and called me some attention. They are: Shure SE530s Koss KDX300 In-Ear Sennheiser MM 70s Sennheiser CX 300 II I am not an expert on ear phones, so I would know through you. Any of the above models have the quality "equal or better" to the door of the pro koss? Do you suggest some…

  8. So I bought a lot of modified headphones on ebay, SR-Lambda Signature, SR-007Mk2 and SR-009. They looked to be in rough condition so I thought, worst case I'll tinker with them and have some more spare parts for my stock. Now... the first two units were bad... really bad but I fully rebuilt them from my stock of spare parts. Now I've been fixing up lost cause headphones for 20 years but still, these were the worst I've ever seen. Missing parts everywhere and utterly retarded ways of "improving" them by making everything worse. Now, I had left the 009's in their box until this morning and wow... just wow... So what are we looking at, these are t…

  9. So we are going to San Diego for vacation Saturday and it will be Molly's first airplane. Which means we need distractions. I've got some Disney classics and some kids tunes loaded up on the iPad, which means headphones. She turns 3 in August. They need to be comfy enough where she won't mess with them, small enough to fit a 3 year olds head, and cheap enough where I won't sweat it when she break them. Go.

  10. Hello, greetings to all, I wonder if anyone has been able to compare these electrostatic headphones. Thanks

Now that I'm biking more (yay!) I find I need to take the occasional phonecall when I'm enroute. So I'm asking for headphone advice. Imagine that. I'm mostly looking for something that won't fall out of my ears (I'm talking to you, EarPods), or block all sound (I like to have some situation-awareness around crazy LA drivers). It's fine if they're wired--again, I'm not necessarily looking for amazing fidelity. Do I want Bluetooth? Thoughts?

Does anyone know Grado's policy on selling replacement/spare parts for their headphones? I've just read a couple threads about Headphile's custom headphones and was curious about how the HP and PS-1 drivers were obtained for these projects. I was always under the impression Grado did all their repairs in house and wasn't willing to send out replacement parts but if that was the case it would seem the only way to make a PS3000 would be to cannibalize a PS-1 which doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Anyway I know this is kind of a random question but I'm a bit curious how this works.

  17. This video gives people a good look at the factory and their manufacturing process: http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2014/07/some-of-the-worlds-most-reknowned-headphones-built-in-a-brooklyn-townhouse/ SFW: hot glue action It should be interesting to see if their e series headphones are a measurable improvement on their predecessors. It seems like yesterday that they announced the i series.

  18. Just stumbled across the German Maestro headphone brand while browsing another forum looking for a really good pair of closed back headphones for listening at work. Has anyone tried the German Maestro GMP 450 or GMP 8.35D? They're supposed to be really comfortable. Any comments on their sound compared with something like the Beyerdynamic DT770?

Well, I am looking for a new set of headphones. There is a modded set currently for sale, based on various impressions I am interested. My favorite cans have always been the HP-1000's and L3000's. I have also owned and enjoyed the Senns 600 and 650's, RS-1's both new and vintage stock, PS-1's. Would love to hear all of your thoughts on the K340's and how they compare to what I am familiar with.

I have a pair of Stax SR Omega headphones (serial number 00199). These are still the best headphones I have ever heard. This is an old set which has stood the test of time. I continue to use them as a reference during my mixes. The head bow broke in two places near the top and middle. From a factory authorized repair shop I purchased the last head bow they had two years ago. They came from another model. I need to find a suitable replacement. I am not afraid to make modifications to the support system. Any Ideas?

  22. In the "Measurements" thread, everyone could see that top-tier electrostatic and isodynamic headphones are more similar than different, having similar FR, CSD, square wave and impulse responces, isodynamics sometimes having better measured parameters. However, their sound is not the same. I have thought of 3 moments that seem to make difference between them. I must warn everyone from the start that I'm no specialist in these areas and everything below is wild speculation. 1) Air resistance and open area. ES drivers use very thin stator plates with high open area - more than 50%, it seems. There is minimum amount of trapped air and minimum stored energy. Isodynami…

Has anyone tried the new DT990s yet? If so how do they differ from the old dt990 pros, also how do they compare with the likes of the 650's?

  25. Hi, I'm new to this forum and would like some advice on getting a pair of budget headphones for a recording studio. I would like to use them for recording vocals mainly and it's important that the headphones are able to prevent a lot of sound leaking into the microphone. Ideally I would like the headphones to have a replaceable lead and be comfortable and pretty decent sounding. My budget is £50 max. I have done a reasonable amount of searching online over the past few days and have narrowed my choices down to Monoprice 8323 - £15 Superlux HD669 - £24 Superlux HD661 - £24 Superlux HD631 DJ - £36 Which of these prevents sound leakage most effectively…
