Hi guys, found my way here through another thread in another subforum. Have been drooling for years over a Sony MDR-R10 (bit of a Sony vintage gear fan), but there is no way I could afford it back in the '90, and still can't at the prices these go for nowadays. But anyway, as a kid I used to listen a lot through my dad's headphones, a pair of Telefunken TH-700 orthodynamic headphones, which I've always liked a lot. They were pretty expensive and Telefunken's TOTL offering in the late 70's. Unfortunately, through the years, the leather cushionpads have deteriorated badly, so they are not at all comfortable anymore to wear. I recently rediscovered these in a box…

So I just read Darth Nut's review of the O2s, and wow, it is without a doubt the best review of a piece of audio equipment I have ever read, hands down, no contest. What really blows my mind is how conceptually clear the review was. He basically articulated a coherent conceptual framework for audio review and applied it to an actual piece of audio equipment in a consistent, logical manner and backed it up with supporting evidence. It combines both his subjective perceptual experiences and his concepts in a way that shows the reader his thought process. Honestly this should be required reading for anyone interested in describing audio equipments.

It's not always easy to get information about the headphone industry. Still looking for my perfect DAC......then stumbled to this headphones : Beyer DT48E.......everyone said its perfect for guitar, piano and vocal. And a pretty big part of my collection revolve around this genre (acoustic alchemy, jim brickman, jason mraz, susan wong, diana krall, david benoit, peter white, etc).....Guess what, I pull the trigger...... Someone here please console me (or flame me if you wish) that this purchase is not a fail. I'm an indecisive prick......and I hate myself........

Talk about timing...USPS and FedEx both arrive at exactly the same time with Mr. USPS carrying my new Pint amp and Mr. FedEx carries my E500 and Cardas mini-mini! Fired thing up and to say I'm impressed is an understatement. Most definitely THE most comfortable IEM's I've ever worn. First impressions on the sonics is also very positive. Yummmm!!! So I got teased a bit in another thread when I mentioned I ordered some HD600 grills for my HD580, because I thought that would essentially make them HD600s. Is this not the case? Do the 580's and the 600's indeed have the same drivers? If so, what is it that makes the 600's different aside from the grills, are the enclosures different?

Well, with my newfound love of Stax headphones I thought I'd start a Stax thread. So talk about your Stax cans/energizers/amps...etc. I've got a pair of SR-Lambda Pro headphones recently and I love them. Right nw I've got them hooked up as follows: Wadia 23 RCA>Denon AVR-100>SRD-7 Pro>SR-Lambda Pro I've also heard these out of Hirsch's ES-1 and the 007t amp. The ES-1 trumps all of them of course. Overall they're the clearest sounding headphones I've heard. Vocals are warm but well articulated, the highs are sparkling and fast. The bass is full and rich but does lack the speed of a dynamic headphone at times...but it can go quite deep on some recording…

I've only listened to one album so far: Porcupine Tree - Deadwing (prog with loud/soft songs) I really know and love this album, and right now I'm hearing a clarity I have not heard in any other Grado. Only the K1000. But I'm also hearing a certain weight to the electric guitar that I have never heard on this album. And Steven Wilson sounds clear as day. I figured this topic deserved a new thread and I'll kick it off with impressions of my new Koss UR18 foster phone. Those that have been following the ortho thread on HF know about the SFI drivers that cost next to nothing yet deliver in spades. I found a Koss UR18 cheap brand new today and it had all the right characteristics of a good foster phone, pleather pads, dual entry (I just like it like that) and thin earpads and a small enclosure. By sheer luck they had drivers which were exactly the same diameter as the SFI units so conversion was easy. Remove the old drivers and insert the new ones.
