So all the old stuff about these is buried in the Stax thread but since I just bought a lightly used set of KS-M3 and M10 it was perhaps time to give them their own thread. So I owned both the H1 and H2...and both were terrible. Truly awful but there are still people out there claiming the H3's are really good so...I was curious. I got the combo at a nice enough price so why not. Kevin thinks I'm nuts for buying a third one of these but hey... I guess he's right. I have the Ether/Ether C on loan and I did some listening last night vs. my HD800S. TLDR Version The Ether is legit. I like it better than any Audeze I've heard. It won't be supplanting the 800S in my collection, but this is a legit good headphone. Frequency balance issues and price are its biggest weaknesses. Bass and comfort are its biggest strengths. Long Version For reference, my chain: iPad -> Wyrd -> Yggy -> XP-10 -> DSHA-4. Pros: Ether bass is fantastic. Waaaaay better than HD800S bass. So I picked up a pair of Stax SR-40 on ebay. I know they're electret and do not require a charge to be fed to them. They have the standard 5 pin stax plug it looks like. Can I use these with the current feedback electrostatic amp?

I figured this topic deserved a new thread and I'll kick it off with impressions of my new Koss UR18 foster phone. Those that have been following the ortho thread on HF know about the SFI drivers that cost next to nothing yet deliver in spades. I found a Koss UR18 cheap brand new today and it had all the right characteristics of a good foster phone, pleather pads, dual entry (I just like it like that) and thin earpads and a small enclosure. By sheer luck they had drivers which were exactly the same diameter as the SFI units so conversion was easy. Remove the old drivers and insert the new ones. Hello I bought pair of SR-3 year ago. I knew they had failure, left driver was quiet, right driver was only little louder. After year I've decided to give them new life this spring. At the first I've discovered holes in diaphragm of the left driver as you can see in the picture. I decided to use 2um mylar to make new diaphragm for both drivers and self made coating with some antistatic spray+isopropanol. Now I am sitting with them and writing this post, they sound great, with good bass, with sweet and not sharp highs.

Bonnie has a pair of PX 100s that she loves for the office, but needs more (our at least some) isolation. The other alternative would probably be the Urbanites. But those seen a bit visually imposing.

I can't believe I am starting one of these threads, but I am trying to help somebody find a $100 IEM and all I have is Innerfidelity as a guide. They do not have many new reviews and the wall of fame entries are at least a year old. Anything to add, Head-Case?

I haven't spent much time with the HD600 and now that I've sold the HD800, the 650 sounds a bit boomy. Granted, it is headphiled, but I suspect it would still sound boomy if I were to replace the grills. Any thoughts re the 600? I haven't spent much time with it. And what would be a good price used?

What do you guys think about these headphones? I owned a used pair for a while, but I didn't feel the sound and build quality justified the price (for example vs. sr009 or omega II). I thought they had great sound stage, good detail and a nice balanced sound. No sibilance issues and non-fatiguing. I found the mids a bit thin and in my system they sounded muddy until I turned up the volume to a bit higher than I prefer. The pads get pretty hot after a bit of use. My wife wasn't a fan of them, citing vocals as lacking 'crispness'. I think they are still one of the top headphones I've listened to so I'd recommend giving them a listen. Biggie.
