we're using this player in our room at CES 29-321, it is mighty impressive. My choice for a reference level CD Player, smoking Good. The VAC Preamp and amps also impress mightily. The Symposium speakers after several years as a not quite ready for prime time are finally Readyfor Prime time. Still the system without cables and racks sells for $70,000 Here's hoping I get. good job so upgrading the audio system might become possible. I'm going to try and take some pictures to post.

I've got a netbook running XP with redbook FLAC files played by Foobar, that I hooked up to the miniDAC via USB, so I should just set the Apogee USB ASIO driver to 44.1/16 bit, right? Any reason to set it at 24 bit? (Still waiting for my PICO to arrive, but I dusted off the miniDAC to try with the netbook. I've been using the 840C primarily, and I'd forgotten how good the miniDAC sounds!)

I tried one of these on a lark. It looked like it would work on my Regas, with their teenie weenie stubby little spindles. My really old Planar 3's spindle was too short even for this gizmo. But my merely old one accepts the thing just fine. Amazingly, it actually works. It ain't no Sota Reflex Clamp but it does help bass and image focus. It costs $29 and works on spindle-challenged tables, so what's not to love? (If you haven't seen one, it's a little clear plastic saucer that looks like it just escaped from under a cup of cafe Cubano, or maybe from being the lid for a cat food tin. I'm sure most of the 29 bucks goes to paying off the mold. I don't see mu…

Good day everyone, I am in the process of purchasing a new DAC.... So Far, I bought a pair of Sennheiser HD800 and a WOO Audio 6 SE headphone amp. All my music is on Apple Lossless on an external hard drive. My last step is the purchase of a new DAC..... AUDIO-GD is what I have in mind so far.... This company has a lot of fans on Head-Fi, but it doesn't seem to be the same thing here.... The DAC I will buy should last at least 10 years.... maybe more, like my HD800 amd my headphone amp. As I will not have the chance of listening to the DAC before I buy it, I seek for your help... I am thinking of the Audio GD NFB 8 or REF 5 or Wyred 4 Sound Dac 1 o…

My Zhaolu won't receive a coax or optical signal....I can hear a current rush through the headphones when I power it up, but then it goes to mute.. and then nothing.... Headphone amp module doesn't work either. I use it for late night TV with an M^3, but it stopped working yesterday. It just goes to mute after I turn it on. Here are some pics, maybe some of the DIYers can spot what's wrong with it. All the leds inside light up and the muting led flashes. Nothing looks burnt or leaking, what do you guys think? Thanks for taking a look. USG

I would like to use the Pico amp/dac as a DAC, connected to my powered computer speakers. I tried measuring output voltage by connecting one of my multimeter (set to AC voltage) to the 1/8" output and the other to ground (while playing 60Hz tone through the computer but having no headphones/speakers plugged in). I was getting readings that were really low when the volume was low and it got about to 2V on high gain about 3 o'clock. Does this seem correct (who knows if I was doing it right)? I decided to trying using it as a DAC with the volume at 12 o'clock and and the gain on high. There seems to be enough volume for listening at my desk. Is there a correct setting…

Is it worth getting a cheap Sony CE595 for just multi-channel SACDs? I'm really happy with redbook as it is (and my DA10), since most of the music I listen to is released on this format. But there are a few mutli-channel SACDs that I'd love to hear on my K1000. Do you guys think it's worth it? And will I be able to send the analog cables straight to my Pass Labs amp or is something fancy required?

I did a search for Brennan here and both hits were well into necro territory so here goes: I'd never heard of them before (which doesn't mean much, as usual) but saw an ad for them in the WSJ today that got my attention. http://www.brennan.co.uk/itemlist.php/clasrefr/units They sell through Amazon and it's a Fulfiment by Amazon setup which is nice. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=bl_sr_electronics?_encoding=UTF8&node=172282&field-brandtextbin=Brennan What do you all think? What's the story on these folks? Anyone try out any of their products?

Alright, so I'm still debating my next source upgrade, I had pretty much decided on a Storm Digital D02 (or baby D02 depending on whether I feel my shelf can handle the over 20 lbs of the regular D02) to be paired up with my Headamp GS-1 but in the past couple of days I've been reading more about people using the balanced outputs of the Lavry DA10 and I've also been reading more about the benefits of recabled, balanced headphones which has brought the DA10 back into consideration. I expect the D02 + GS-1 combo would give me a similar but improved sound over what I have now and because of the GS-1's versatility it would give me a very flexible system that can easily be …

This may be a stupid question (and feel free to say so if it is), but does the Headroom Micro DAC have the diamond buffer in it? Does it make sense for it to? From a brief perusal of a thread or two on Head-Fi, it seems not, but I just wanted to make sure.

Bit of a link bait title, but I'm glad we're well clear of the lossy compression era in hi-fi CD players - I always turned skip protection off. The test album was Goldfrapp's Head First - pure synthwave ear candy. Head First is an almost entirely electronic album, with heavily-processed real sound from Alison Goldfrapp, a guitar, bass, and drums on selected tracks. I read that Will Gregory and Alison Goldfrapp were somewhat unsatisfied with the results of a rushed production process, but to me, it's a perfect gem. The anthemic, insanely upbeat pop tracks are well balanced against the more relaxed ambient instrumentals. To me, it's a touchstone, both a microcosm and a…

got a new transport to go along with the CEC DA53 dac. the build seems pretty nice (for a sub $1000 component that is) and so far I like the features and layout. it uses a belt-driven CD transport and comes with AES/EBU, optical, coaxial, and superlink (CEC's proprietary output using a d-sub 9-pin connector) outputs. haven't used it too much, and I don't have much equipment to use it with until I get back to the states (currently only have a Grace 901 to use as the dac and amp), but so far the sound is nice and seems to be a good complement to the dac. I'll put up pictures of it and some impressions later.

Have you tried this DSP software bundle with calibrating interface? I just saw it advertised on a HDTracks newsletter. https://www.theoretica.us/bacch4mac/CheskyLanding16.html I think it's very expensive and the charge for annual tech service seems... ludicrous? yet if it really works well it could be interesting for headphone listening or even speakers 3D enhancement.

does anyone here has any experience with the "other" lite audio dacs (by that I mean other than the well known around here DA-AH). Man there are quite a few of them. There is quite a bit of into on the DAC-60 at audiocircles. Then there is the DAC-68, 38, 39. So offer balanced outs while others only single ended. Anyone heard any of the ones listed??

I was (web)crawling around the Sony site to see if there was an update to the OS of my SCD-CE775, and stumbled across this -- sorta explains why my Sony player fucked up my God Forbid DualDisc, dunnit. I could come to hate Sony. I think I'm going to get rid of my player and get a Pioneer universal.

Hello, I currently have this setup: PC > Keces 151 > WA3+ > DT990 The 151 and WA3+ sound good, but when I turn the volume all the way up on the WA3+ with no music playing, I hear a very feint FM radio interference. The other night I was hearing Kelly Clarkson Most noticeable are drums. I never hear this interference except at full volume, I've never actually heard it during real listening, but I can't help but think its degrading the signal still. It's definitely coming through the USB. If I turn off my PC, turn off or unplug the DAC, the radio noise is gone. If I skip the DAC and go from the PC's mini-stereo out to RCA theres no radio noi…
