Interesting story regarding Rutherford Chang and his collection of numbered Beatles albums. I understand that it's more of a multi media art presentation but for the casual onlooker, it's almost cult like! http://www.dustandgrooves.com/rutherford-chang-we-buy-white-albums/

Some of you folks know that I'm a fan of early recordings. One of the attractions for me is the combination of music, scholarship and cultural anthropology. Here's an article (the name just doesn't do it justice IMHO) from the NY Times Magazine that has spurred some amazing threads amongst collectors. A little warning, this is much longer than your average article but if you're interested in this kind of stuff, the time is well spent. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/04/13/magazine/blues.html

  8. As the title says. For those of you living under a rock, Bandcamp has been the single best site for artists to sell their music to discering fans for many years now. The artists get their payment immediately and the fans get their choice of DRM-free downloads formats (which is to say, FLACs). Epic Games is an at-best questionable entity that owns the money printing machine known as Fortnite and the Unreal game engine (which can be used for good or evil, but usually the latter). Epic is partially owned by Tencent, who are an arm of the Chinese government. Spoiler Would you care to purchase some Uyghur eyeballs? This is a bit like ...ca 20…

I happen to like music that can be broadly categorized as "shoegazing" and "noise-pop." So if anyone else is a fan of such genres, and who's also in the DC/MD/VA area, there is a local music fest full of bands who make music in those genres: MySpace.com - DNA in the DNA Radio WMUC Radio 88.1 FM - 101 - Male - COLLEGE PARK, Maryland - www.myspace.com/dnainthedna I've seen a couple of these bands live before, and while they are by no means mind-blowing, they are pretty decent, IMO.

I am not sure any of you have heard of the small Russian band of two called Kauan before. The main force behind it is Anton Belov, who plays guitar, keyboards, and does vocals. The other member, Lubov Mushnikova, plays violin. Though the band comes from Russia, most of the lyrics are Finnish. To date, four albums have been released: Lumikuuro (2007), Tietäjän Laulu (2008), Aava tuulen maa (2009), and Kuu... (2011). The first two albums are considered a mix of folk, doom, and black metal. Having said this, the main sound consists of beautiful melodies driven by piano and guitar with a mix of both clean and back metal vocals. I am not really a fan of black metal,…

Since we here have the coolest feature i seen on any forums being the ability to embed video in the threads directly I figure we need a Music Video thread. this thread is for any video that was done in the 80's. the 80's were the high light of music videos and 80's music is pretty wild and stretched... The first Video is From Morris Day and his "Jungle Love" video he may be best known for. Little do people know Day went to high school with Prince...who cares the song Rocks! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irimNjHPS9c

I was really interested in this at first and held off, having listened to the Tidal stream of the record I am generally impressed. It fucks with a masterpiece but is a really goo modern take IMO. Anyone here own the record or the ridiculous deluxe $100+ version with DVD and Blu ray? I am interested in any gains with the 24/96 but not sure I want to spend the cash on it unheard.

  21. Going out on a limb here, has any head-caser heard the 2009 remaster of Tattoo You? I grew up listening to the original, yet all I own is a scratchy early-80s vinyl pressing. There was a time when I'd cheerfully buy any remaster, but the Terrible Age of the Brick Wall has cured me of that forever. I'd much rather track down a halfway decent CD pressing (or needledrop) of the original version than suffer through having all the dynamics crush by a modern rework. Anyone out there heard both? Bueller?
