  2. I have a bunch of movies on an external HD, but they're in a whole bunch of different formats. Is there a straightforward way to convert them to whatever iTunes needs so that I can view them on my iPad/iPhone. Performing such conversion within iTunes itself doesn't seem to cut it.

So just finished up replacing the old Belkin wireless router with an Airport Extreme. Nice upgrade in terms of speed, range and stability. I do have one slight incompatibility. The Belkin had WPA security and the Airport can use WPA2, which I prefer. My Netgear wireless printserver (WGPS606) worked fine on WPA but will not do WPA2 security. Since everything else works fine with WPA2, I do not want to downgrade the security protocol. So I am looking for recommendations for wireless print servers that do WPA2. Note, I cannot hook the printer up to the Airport as they are located in different parts of the house.

Yes, I'm one of those annoying people who basically never learned how to do anything myself, and now have a problem I don't know how to troubleshoot so need someone to help me out yet again. Last night around 11PM, my wireless connection suddenly disappeared, but my computer asked me if I wanted to connect to another network, so I connected to a neighbor's unsecured whatever. Today, I get home from work and try to find out what's going on, the modem and the airport express have all the right lights lit up, but I don't know what my network was called, have no idea what my password was if I even knew at all, and now don't know how to start to figure it out. Any ideas? I…

I've maxed out my 2.4GHz laptop with 4 gigs of memory. OWC has a kit that will take it up to 6 gb. Would this be a waste of time and money or would it be a welcome addition? The laptop is rated up to 4gb, but they have tested the 6gb and said it works.

  11. dell lcd was purchased ~5 years ago. as you can see in the pictures, theres a darkish horizontal area that curves up a little to the right side of the panel. visible on white backgrounds but very very obvious on greys. its actually worse in person than it seems in the pictures. any thoughts? suggestions? my thinkpad backlight just died 20 minutes after i installed a replacement harddrive (the deathstar finally kicked the bucket). the laptop has been with my for the better part of 4 years now. just hate all this stuff happening to machines i have gotten very used to.

Through the generous kindness of Nate and all his wonderful Nateness, I was able to receive a nice linksys wr54g (I think, its the one that cannot take the DD-WRT firmware) as I was having router issues. It has worked pretty well, but the one thing I notice is that when multiple things are accessing the router at the same time, it tends to drop out. For example, I had my ipad, and two laptops were exchanging music through itunes as my work tablet will be returned, and it would suddenly drop out of connection, and wouldn't connect back to the router until a couple of minutes. I upgraded to the recent firmware but nothing really. Also, some of you may know that the ipad…

Just wondering if anyone has used Optimum Online for an ISP, I am moving to Hoboken in a week and this and Verizon Fios are the options available to me. All else the same, I would probably go with Fios, but there is a promotion that puts the OOL at about half the fios cost for the first year, so just wondering if anyone has tried it with good experiences. No p2p, so I shouldnt have the issues with upload capping I read about.

Wondering if anyone might be able to give me some insight into a minor issue I'm having with the USB audio on my Gateway FX laptop running Windows 7. I've never had much of an issue with the Pico and USB audio, generally it's been plug and play without glitches. I get occasional noise from one thing or another, mostly at work where I haven't done much in the line of special setup and there's a ton of interference. When I got the laptop though part of my intention was to use it in conjunction with my Pico for music playback allowing me a system I can more easily move around the house so I'd like to get the best out of it I can. Generally the sound is fine but I get the …

My laptop is dying. I want a MacBook Pro, but I'm not sure that's in the cards right now. So I'm considering a Netbook. I wouldn't be doing much more than surfing the ol' internets and some light MS Office stuff. But I would also want to be able to load the thing up with tunes and be able to use it as a portable listening/server solution. Is a Netbook in the $300 range capable of this? Oh, and I want it to be reasonably fast.

  19. Started by screaming oranges,

I have this kick-ass excel macro that is basically capable of cutting down a multi-hour job into a couple of minutes. However, I'm at a loss in the end. The last stage of the macro runs a mail merge through excel as it calls the next client, changes address, adds other personal info, prints the job, and saves it as an individual file. My problem is that I can get the individual files to save under, say, date and client's name as an excel spreadsheet, but I'd really like to save as a pdf file. I am aware of various programs that act as a printer and basically let you save through the print dialog. The issue is, they always prompt for a name and location. Anyone…

  20. Hi there, H-C. Yesterday, while I was on a photo shoot, my beloved Blackberry grew legs and took off (FML). I've been in damage control mode for the last 20 or so hours (shutting off the phone, changing a fuck-ton of passwords.) Now I'm moving on to regaining ground so to speak. I have a Google Voice number, and had the GV app for my BB. I also have a Vonage box left over from when I was a customer of theirs. My understanding is that the Vonage only works with their service. It might be hackable, but that's really not my forte. What I'd like is similar box, something with an ethernet (or USB) jack and an RJ11 jack. Failing that, a hardware phone with a USB port…

So I have a mkv file that I would ultimately like to try and get onto a writeable DVD that can perhaps be played in a standard DVD player. I have tried several pieces of software to would presumably at least allow me to transcode the mkv file to avi and therefore make it more "playable" on various HTPCs. For example, my PS3 won't play mkv but will play most avi. So can anyone help. Time really isn't of essence here, I've been working on this on and off for 6 months already. I keep reading page after page that allegedly link to programs like mkv2ps3 and others but eff me if I can even find download links some times.
