Since Mike deleted the old one, I'm starting a new one. Did 80 miles today. It was the best cycling weather I've experienced since getting a bike. Absolutely perfect. I accidentally didn't get up on time (had my phone, which is my alarm, on silent and didn't know), and rushed out the door, forgetting that I didn't take the new saddle off my bike and also forgetting chamois cream. I got lucky and think this saddle is a winner. No issues at all. My butt and bits apparently like leather saddles. I road with my "team" from the Smart Ride, and this week, there were some stronger riders, so averaged 17-18 going north in the headwind, and 20-22 coming back south. Real…

I think it's time for me to finally pick up a RCM. I've been using a dry brush mostly because all the vinyl I buy is new, but I'm starting to buy more and more used. Any suggestions? A used VPI HW-16 looks like a decent option that can always be upgraded to the HW-16.5, but I have no idea if the older model had any problems. Any comments, suggestions, or other recommendations? Thanks.

Folks, My cousin is looking for some advice to build a computer based system for around $2000. Thats going to be some sort of DAC/Preamp/Amp, cables/wires and speakers. I'm thinking of: 1) Peachtree Nova: Signal Path International - Era Speakers & Peachtree Audio - Introducing Nova 2) Used speakers with minimum 91db efficiency. 3) Bluejean cables or Signal cables. Any thoughts?

  5. Hey guys, Just a heads up of a post I saw on Facebook. For a small company in a niche market, that kind of loss can threaten being able to stay in business. Avoid crazy deals and no buying off the street or in back alleys/white vans.

  6. Started by The Monkey,

Doing a little research for a friend who'd like a CD player and speakers (and amp if he doesn't go with active monitors). He can't go above $1000.00 and preferably would like to spend less. He is not yet using a computer as source, so I think the CD player is a must. I was thinking of something like this as a starting point: NAD / PSB Package-Audio Advisor Any thoughts?

I'm starting a new thread so it doesn't get lost in the main one. If others think this should be more appropriately placed in the off-topic forum, I'll move it, but I was just thinking to keep the two threads somewhat together. Anyway, I like goals. Without them, I do nothing but talk about doing things. I'm going to keep mine simple and, barring more injuries, do-able. 1. 4000 miles. That's about 83 mile a week. Highly do-able. 2. I want to increase my speed to be able to hang with a paceline for more than 10 miles at 20+ mph. 3. I want to learn how to ride hills. I still can't stand and pedal, and descending, however much I like it, scares me. …

In the spirit of last year's thread I decided to see what everyone else is thinking for the year My major goals are the following two Gran Fondos: Diabolical Double (16k+ ft, 125 miles): http://www.winthefight.org/granfondo/diabolical_double.htm The Alpine Loop Gran Fondo (11.5k+ ft, 107 miles): http://alpineloopgranfondo.com/ Plus I think I will probably do the Tour de Cure in Northern VA (6/1/14) with Jeff. I'm also loooking at: MS Ride The Riverside (6/7/14-6/8/14) Airforce Classic (6/8/14): http://cyclingclassic.org/ Total 200 Double Century (6/14/14): http://www.total200.com/ Edit: It's not a "goal" really but I'll probably do a few 5k races w…

I am looking into getting a 360 degree camera for VR tours on campus (for hiring and recruiting grad students in the spring) and also just to play with for fun. I've been looking into the Ricoh cameras. Other suggestions are the Gopro Max but I already have a GoPro Hero 9. https://theta360.com/en/ Anyone tried any of these cameras?

My sister & brother-in-law are looking for an LCD TV in the 42" range and want to spend about $1200 max. 1080p and decent connectivity are a must, built-in speakers are not. Will be wall-mounted. Given that the last thread on this topic is a year old, I thought I would see what people suggest so I can help them make a good purchase. Let me know if you have any brands, models, or stores/online shops to recommend or to avoid. Thanks!

Like the title says, I need some help ID'ing some 6SN7's that I'd like to list for sale. Basically, I just want to make sure that both parties get a fair deal. I'd rather not find out later that I sold a $50 for $10 or vice versa. I've got 10 that I'd like to list (of the way too many that I've accumulated) since I'm now pretty much exclusively using 7N7s. If you need more information just as, but I figured we'd start with pictures and go from there. And huge thanks in advance. Batch 1: Batch 2: All have been tested on my Jackson which can do everything short of conductance (but it does have a better than average LIFE test). They all test good to very …

it's another afternoon to evening in the city by the bay. I'm going to class, getting out of discussion, when I see a beautiful tree against a lit stone building. The sun is going down... I prepare, set up, click, hold... and when i get back home, I realize it was too slow... the image isn't as sharp, i'm shaking too much. I meet a group of friends at a restaurant, I take pictures as they come in, but they wink too much when my flash goes off. The light around it isn't bad, but being indoors is a disaster for this lens. I tell my camera not to flash. I get two results, either it's kinda dark and the guy sitting next to Teresa (my subject) isn't even visible. Or...…

Hi! A few weekends ago, we visited my wife's grandma's house for a final time, as she was recently admitted into a home, and they are going to have an estate sale. This was a chance for the grandkids to sort of go through and pick any momentos they wanted. I thought it would be nice to take home her grandma's old vinyl and possibly play it a bit. I am not a vinyl guy at all, nor do i see myself really getting into it. So all I am looking for is a very cheap, small space, functional vinyl rig that my wife can listen to her grandma's old records.

My partner and I are thinking that we may want to buy ourselves a new tv for Christmas (probably 50"). Right now we have a Samsung 40" 720p LCD. We have been pretty happy with it but I think it is time for a step up. We have a lot of windows in the living room but do most of our watching at night. Any suggestions? How is Sony vs Samsung?

Because of my mold problem, I am looking to get another air purifier. Right now I have the Winix Plasmawave but I am going to keep that in the room with mold and put the other one with in the room I sleep in. Any recommendations? The Winix is good but doesn't have activated carbon filters so I don't know if it is as good as some others. The mold specialist said that Honeywell makes good ones. Anyone tried those? What are the important qualities. I know that a good HEPA filter is the most important. Should UV sanitizer be avoided because of Ozone? Avoid ionizer (the Winix Plasmawave has this)? Are activated carbon filters a lot better than regular carbon filters?

I've never been allergic to anything my whole life, been woodworking on and off for decades and now it seems I've become allergic to certain woods! I've been getting little tender bumps on my fingertips for a few weeks and now after a couple of days going at it my whole hands and parts of my arms are now filled with a rash that's both very sore and itches like a fucker. I don't know which wood(s) might be causing it but it's really depressing. I ordered some barrier cream, got some work gloves and am taking Zyrtec and rubbing cortizone cream to get the itching down. I don't know why it's only affecting my hands as there's dust and chippings everywhere when I'm working…

Color E-Ink would be better, but either way, it will have very very long battery life. The best part is the Amazon "Whispernet" which is bascially using Sprint's EVDO network. Whether or not it has a full web browser that you can use for free has yet to be seen, but if you can surf for free, the Kindle will sell like mad. http://www.amazon.com/kindle Hardware wise, not really all that into the off white color that will get dirty really fast. And the whole left and right side being page turning buttons means accidental page turning galore. Interesting product, though. Pretty spendy at nearly $400. It should really be less than $200 if they want them to …

And the Fire is official. Out November 15, 2011. "GDGT's Ryan Block notes that the WiFi-only Kindle Fire is merely a "stopgap" product, hence its pre-holiday release. Writes Block, "[M]y sources tell me the second-gen Kindle tablet [...] will be out in Q1 of 2012 -- yes, that soon."
