  2. Well size isn't everything, it's what you can cram in a small box that counts... My KGSSHV is smaller than the Stax amps but is much more powerful and with a completely regulated power supply. The Carbon isn't much bigger and more than twice as powerful than the mini... Plenty of threads here where we rip the amps a new one. We've not been as active in this but that should change shortly. Time to expose the shit that's popular on HF. Something to offset the fucked up news above, a pic of the ever growing Stax museum. I clearly need a second display case in the living room: 009, SR-Omega and HE90 on the top shelf Two SR-1's, SR-2, SR-3 and SR-5 on the next shelf The 404LE, SR-SC1, Lambda Signature, Lambda Nova Signature and Lambda Pro Being all abandoned at the bottom is the SR-X Mk1. A lot of other headphones all over the house plus a lot more in various stages of restoration.

  3. Here's the new Vinyl Me, Please for May. Weezer - Pinkerton I was trying to decide between the 4LP deluxe edition or the MFSL edition, but this makes that decision easier, and I'll keep the subscription another month. **BRENT**

  4. LOL...yeah, pretty much. Here is the bastage that caused all the drama. I was able to save the heads with a bit of work. Here is a shot of the heads being repaired. Only one hole was an issue, but there were o-ring grooves in them previously for a certain copper gasket I've given up on so I had them filled and decked. Definitely changed from the POC Manley to a Rev race valve. Cleaning up the hole from hell...you can see some of the damage still Buttoned back up with the new hardware New Diamond 2618 allow pistons 300M rods... Higher capacity oil pan... Billet main caps Assembled short block with a forged Scat crank and a custom cam made for boost...lift is relatively tame HS

  5. Beautiful group of cars, cetoole! Is there any interest in my posting pictures of the rebuild of my 2009 Dodge Challenger turbo car? I have shots of the process, some of the parts, etc... b HS

  9. OK, swt61 and fellow Texan. I'll post a few pics and let me know if you have any questions or I'm boring the hell out of anyone So this is what I did to the last motor....I don't recommend doing this at over 200mph. A Manley race valve failed and took out a really nice 2618 allow piston, set the 300M rod loose as well as the tool steel wrist pin and that rod ate the iron sleeve in then the aluminum block. Oil went past the engine diaper....it was a bear to stop. My car is a pig....weighs 4550lbs roughly with me in it. most of what was sitting in my engine diaper and my steel belly pan Damn shame...it was a really nice motor. This is the inside of my passenger side front wheel hub. It'll give an idea of how much oil made its way on the wheels and brakes. I found it interesting that due to the dynamics of airflow, although I holed the motor on the driver's side, most the oil ended up on the passenger side wheel which made for some very uneven braking....spooky. Pulled hard. This is the StopTech brake rotor that saved my bacon... Whoops. She laid down right before the mile marker...I like running the standing mile a couple of times a year. Here's the slip they were kind enough to secure for me after I oiled the big end of the track... So I decided to give it another shot. I'm not too bright...LOL HS

  11. Congrats San Jose! My brain said LA would win, but glad my heart won out on this (even though it means the Bruins' draft pick from SJ is worse now) Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

  15. So what makes the omega series (and 009 for that matter) better than the lambdas? Looking at the frequency response, it seems similar, and the impulse response seems to not be much different. I've been trying to approximate for free field and diffuse field, and it seems like the 009 and to a lesser extent the 007 follow a free field while the lambdas do better at diffuse field. So this may account for the differences.

  16. You might find something here ....take a look at the side where all the pictures are shown, and you'll see various non-Stax tips suggested.

  17. When I was 16 I discovered the difference between rms and peak by using a capacitor across a mains switch of an amp I had built. BANG. That was the first in a catalog of stupidity over the decades - the last was destroying quite a lot of my Tektronix 577 curve tracer by plugging the power supply back in with the connector one pin along. Fist I knew I had a problem was when the top of a 741 op amp blew across the room smoking. Still repairing that......

  18. This is my modified T2 from 2014. Later further modified with Cascaded CC a la JimL, replaced a bunch of to92 with small smd ants and replaced one battery with, an all SMD battery on a small daughter board. No oscillation, no hum or other issues. Works equally good as the three original T2s I’ve built. I frequently make layouts, mirrored or symmetrical and make the boards in our kitchen. For me it’s a hobby and I’m really enjoying it.

  21. Softness was my first impression listening to the HE-1000 from the GS-X Mk2 right after SR-007 from the BHSE. HE-1000 just sounded overly smooth and polite.

  22. i agree with the wife. the he1000 softens the leading edge of notes to my ears. it's the lightest and most comfortable planar magnetic that i've worn which is welcome, but the hd800/s expose it for the overpriced can that it is.

  24. The biggest problem that I have with them is rather small size soundstage compared to other top end headphones. Beside that I found them to be quite enjoyable. They pair amazing well with my Susy Dynahi. Build quality is only decent IMO. I personally would take the 800S over them if paying full price.

  25. Went out shopping for stands and ended up with these Hercules stands. Seem to work really well. I also got a humidifier for the room as my house was reading around 23% humidity and it seems I need between 40-50%. Now trying to choose a stool for the guitar room. I can almost play the intro to Sweet Home Alabama without fucking up at this point.
