Agree, a pair of hot twins in a small room does kick up the temperature ... although I tend to not listen too much in situations like that ...3 points

Going to get my car setup like this. Looking forward to taking my bike to work again. You can't see it in that picture but the hitch is super hidden:3 points

Should have gotten black. We all know moar expensive = better. Let me know when you're going to the installer; I've been wanting a biscuit. **BRENT**2 points

i don't think its going to make any difference except that it will make it easier for some builders to introduce shorts, or fancy resistors leaking to ground etc.2 points

Check this HF thread out. IMO this Torq guy is doing an exceptional job with his comparative reviews. http://www.head-fi.org/t/804153/life-after-yggdrasil2 points

Can't wait to hear what all the fuss is about re: 009+Carbon. I never really cared for the standard KGSSHV or the 009 separately but I'll approach this pairing with open ears. It will be hard to touch T2+Omega but I'll be curious to try the HE90 out of it. My experience with the latter on BHSE and then T2 was a complete upset from expectations and everything I've read. Too bad I don't have the BHSE lying around anymore to make sure I'm not insane (or deaf). I have to say I'm really jealous of @HemiSam's Carbon posted a while ago. That build fits my aesthetic tastes well.1 point

I took delivery of the gibson this morning and played it for a few minutes before coming into work. I've got to get used to the neck lacquer, but otherwise it is great. When I played electric guitar in high school it was all about palm muting. After so many years on an acoustic, trying to go back to that has always felt extremely unnatural, until now. The gibson bridge assembly puts my hand in a different area than the strat tremolos. Very pleasantly surprised. Oh, and my historic gibson has none of the chambering so it is on the heavier side. I was anticipating a tank based on all the online complaints about gibson weight. I don't get what the fuss is about. It doesn't seem much heavier than my James Tyler. It is a chunkier neck, I can see that being a turn off. But I like the neck girth, particularly on anything I plan to play fingerstyle.1 point

mwl168 wanted a amp board with the ground plane, i have posted 2, the second one looks better. no other changes, all the parts in the same place, same size, same number of holes etc. second version routes the servo around the top.1 point

We were walking precisely along that path last September, when we stayed in Selva in val Gardena. It was just as awesome as it looks. The path does not go up those crags though - it drops down to a slightly lower path that hugs the bottom of the crags. The pink appearance to the rocks is of ancient corals when all this region was under the sea. If you get the chance to visit this area - do so!1 point

The carbon is now playing music. Running at 20mA the sinks get properly hot. Don't have a temperature sensor on hand but I'd guess it's around 55C give or take. For reference I used 100ohm resistors before the offset instead of 182ohm. The toroid is buzzing on me unfortunately, so I'll have to see about getting that replaced. Aside from that it sounds fantastic.1 point

So I just got a recent ESP950 and I naturally could not resist taking a peek inside. Looks like they have finally updated the design of the amp a bit. New pot, new PSU board but the amplifier board is still dated 1990... There are also some clear signs of penny pinching going on. No name caps, non branded 3296 trimpots and that shitty as all hell volume pot. Bias is 600V off the main B+ line and through a 10M resistor. Next to is an "infinite" resistor which can clearly be replaced to trim the bias if they start to squeal. Not happy about the cap on the bias output but this is 1990 tech. The PSU is labeled 1317 so 2013 vintage so they are clearly still building them. It's quite funny that they didn't go to SMD for this as this is clearly a new layout. Gotta love Koss, hell they've made the same headphones for almost 50 years so why modernize. I left the amp alone except that dual section pot had to go. It can't track in stereo The headphones still look the same and were quickly modified to a SR-Gamma Pro cable. There is so much potential in those drivers but lost in the shitty as all hell housing. The earpads off ebay do help quite a bit but they should be angled to improve the soundstage.1 point

Well, as mypasswordis has pointed out, the concept of consonance and dissonance has been a moving target, from before Bach to now. It is certainly interesting to read contemporary critics complaining about harsh dissonances to them on hearing pieces of music which we now consider standard parts of the "classical" repertoire and some of the most beautiful music ever written. Anyone interested in this should get a copy of Slonimsky's Lexicon of Musical Invective, where you can read comemporary critic's slagging of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony "an incomprehensible union of strange harmonies", Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto, whose finale "transfers us to a brutal and wretched jollity of a Russian holiday. We see plainly the savage vulgar faces, we hear curses, we smell vodka." or this, "in search of ear-rending dissonances, torturous transitions, sharp modulations, repugnant contortions of melody and rhythm, Chopin is altogether indefatigable." One of the funniest putdowns I've read was Mark Twain about Wagner, " His music is better than it sounds."1 point

How I feel about Cage? well, apart from having played his 4'33" on the piano and transcribed it for guitar (not quite as challenging as I assumed), I haven't found much of interest from Cage ... probably a short comming of mine ;o) Stockhausen being popular? well, in the sense that two of the dudes from Kraftwerk did take lessons from Karlheinz yes, otherwise no. Karlheinz always did his own thing and didn't seem to care much for being popular. He is probably more important as an influence rather actually ....1 point

Impressions from Wikia regarding the Focal line: Focal Elear (out of Eddie Current BW SC): Really well built Solid feel and very comfortable I have to say I did feel like this was a cleaner HD650 and slightly more detailed Would probably describe it as having the best of both worlds between the HD600 and the HD650 Best part about it is you don't need an expensive custom tube amp to remove the HD650's veiled sound At a $999 price point however I feel like another entry into upper mid-fi will hold this headphone back Focal Utopia (out of Eddie Current BW SC): Another really well built headphone Solid feel and very comfortable Very clear and detailed with a decently wide sound stage Bass is a bit lacking for me but overall good tonal balance Sometimes I felt however that there was the same hyper realness that I don't like with the Stax 009 present. Most impressed though with the golden headphone case @jude had these housed in. Unfortunately at $4k I really feel this headphone is overpriced especially against the next headphone I am going to mention. Sorry for any Stax 009 fans didn't mean to insult but just not my bag. I'm a 007 MK1 fan1 point
