Power just back on after a couple hours without. A power line went down on our street and kept us in the dark and trapped here -- Frank the Tenant tried to leave and was turned back because PG&E was trying to fix the downed line up the street. Two more drainage clogs resolved after much overflowing. My roast chicken was finished in the Webber and dinner was by candle light. Hopefully we are set for the evening but who knows.6 points

Obama's farewell address. I'm going to miss this President! I have real fear about the next 4 years. I've been disappointed in past elections, but never had an outright tangible sense of panic.5 points

Ahhh so it sucks in its natural form so they are trying to fix it in DSP. Sounds like pure win to me...4 points

I'm mistrustful of DSP processing too. Take an analogue signal, AD, DSP, DA to analogue signal. What? Yup - I'm a luddite.2 points

" Due to the need for DSP to achieve the target frequency response, all incoming analog signals must first be converted to digital. This is undertaken in a multi-channel 32-bit/384 kHz AKM Premium ADC chip. " https://sonomaacoustics.com/technology/ Analog -> digital -> analog -> trash2 points

This. It's raining here, despite being all of 3F out this morning. But remember kids, nothing is wrong with the climate.2 points

They could coat the spacer with something conducive but yeah, I doubt that is the case. Pure single ended shit with all sort of weirdness. Pure win!! Now...now... don't drag things like science into this!! It should be clear to anyone that the stators stand in the way of the sound molecules and there is no way the bass ones can get through those small holes!! Just like Ray said about the wires, they have to be thick enough for the bass to get through. In all seriousness, the stators aren't a problem in any way that I can see and getting rid of them, or making some flimsy as shit mesh stator will make everything worse. Can you even imagine how hard it is to make the Shangri-La stators actually run parallel to one another? Pretty much impossible I'd say let alone what happens when you start playing something. Hello high distortion electrostatic!!1 point

Krikey! They'll have to start measuring in Kelvin, so at least it LOOKS like it's higher..... "It's a balmy 273 degrees K today....short-sleeve weather!"1 point

I really doubt you'll be able to hear it at 32 bits/384 kHz. EDIT: That said, I agree with Spritzer v -- there are some things you just can't fix in DSP. Like impedance mismatches.1 point

Apparently this is a lifesaver. So your ship goes down or plane crashes the sea. You get into the bubble rather than using a buoyancy aid. Oddly I kind of get this - it is common to put something similar to that in the bottom of your pack when walking in the wilderness. When the weather turns nasty you pull the thing out and get into it (personal versions and larger ones for up to ten). The idea is to keep the wind and water/snow off you, and are essential in case of injury.. I have both. They pack really small. They are brightly coloured so emergency rescue can find you. Similar problem in the water - the bubble would go a long way to prevent hypothermia. Some of the other ones above - I have absolutely no idea at all!1 point

Disc Doctor record cleaner system. Their brushes are very good, the fluid can be easily and cheaply made.1 point

A good friend of ours dropped off a bag of Meyer lemons from her garden so naturally I juiced them and am now tweaking a Lemoncello receipe using a vodka that is infused with lime and caviar. It will either turn out to be awesome or azz.1 point

I had a ball cap and raincoat hood on and just didn't realize how close it was. Not going to mess around with it anymore.1 point

Get a good record cleaner -- you'll be surprised how much a noisy record can clean up.1 point
