You guys know what a cheap skate I am so it should be no surprise when I rave about a significant "deal" from Apple on something I really want. Apple's always had some piddly ass discounts for students, employees and some pro users (my AES membership gets me the employee discount). To make a long story shortish, they have a student "package" deal that's kind of awesome. It's called the "Pro Apps Bundle for Education" and it includes Mainstage, Final Cut Pro X, Logic Pro X, and their Compressor. All for $200! Normally that's the price for either Final Cut or Logic so we're talking about more than %50 off if you want those two. Back when I was studying Post Production I made the decision to buy Avid's Media Composer but I later wished I'd gone with Final Cut Pro. Don't get me wrong, MC is much more powerful than Final Cut but I feel like I have to take a refresher course everytime I want to import some clips into it. Final Cut is much more intuitive for a die hard Mac guy like me. As far as Logic goes, I still love Pro Tools, Ableton, and Reaper but they just aren't as quick and deep as Logic or Cubase are for orchestral or large hybrid compositions. ^^Pics of the jacket??? I spent the afternoon testing out various types of motorcycles. Need to settle on exactly what type of bike I want to start with so tried out a bunch of different brands and types of bike. Mostly focused on the Adventure bikes as I thought they are the most practical. The main issue I had with them is they are really tall but seem to handle fine. Tried the Ducati which seemed to have all the right tech and was sportier than the Triumph Tiger which is at the top of my list so far. Then the 2017 Tiger 1200. The new model will not be in stock until March and is a big improvement on these, in tech, engine, etc. Like the looks of these a lot but it is even higher than the Ducati. Not as sporty feeling as the Ducati either but more comfortable. Then I tried something in a different class, the KTM 1290 Super Duke. Really fun to ride but not as useful for road trips, etc. Ran out of time so did not get to try any of the cruiser type bikes, but that should happen this weekend. I did however take part in my favorite part of starting a new hobby, buying shit.

My wife signed up to let me do another season of Autocross and I splurged on a pair of custom double adjustable front shocks for the Focus ST. There is a Celica that when it shows up is just in another world (1-2 seconds faster) and I'm hoping these bring me to his level but looking at the times from Nationals where some guys are stock (other than sway bar and tires) the issue is more likely me. I'll also get an alignment done in the spring when I get them installed. Got my Championship Trophy (a jacket) last week. It is sweet!

Not going to debate with you, but ECP L3 & DSHA-4 are amazing with the HD800. My HD-800 + L3 combo is near the KGSSHV + SR009/SR007 level.

Well, you need a really good amp to wake up the HD800. Doug makes several that compliment them perfectly and the KG SuSy Dynahi and the old Headroom Balanced Max are also great options. Once they are mated with those amps they are even better than the Utopia. But Utopia is superb out of portable source and that's an amazing quality to have. They also match well with Sony NW-WM1A.

I pulled the trigger and bought one. New toy and all, but man I’m really loving the sound of this thing. Finally a not-fucking-around, dead serious ultra High-end dynamic driver headphone that isn’t cheaply built and/or uncomfortable. This is how an expensive headphone should look and feel on and off your head. I know a LOT of effort went into that Beryllium driver, but its shocking to me just how smoothly, accurately and realistically it can convey every little harmonic and dynamic swing of an orchestra, from deep bass to the highest of highs. I’d even go as far as saying I’ve never heard treble so smoothly extended and cleanly and naturally textured from any transducer that I can remember. The 007s might have the ultimate upper hand on the mids and deep-bass (altough this is, amazingly, definitely no slouch) but on dynamics, treble coherency and ultimate resolve I rank the Utopia as a superior performer personally. A fine recording of Verdi’s Requiem Dies Irae popped up earlier and the dynamics actually scared the crap out of me, while every little component in the recording was kept clear as day and separated in a free floating three dimensional space. The sound isn’t thin or lean at all, it’s lively, powerful and authorative and ready to fight should it be called upon to do so. This is the best dynamic driver headphone in the world to my ears and, all things considered, somewhat deserving of its high price relative to cheaply built crap a la Hifiman and Abyss. I’m just blown away by its capabilities, and it achieves this driven from a Chord Mojo should you want to stay ”portable” with something like just an iPad and Tidal HiFi.

They should have giving him some love by recommending the GS-X as well....

I know I asked Kevin a number of pages ago about using ceramics here and he said he couldn’t guarantee that it would meet the noise specs that he had measured. My favourite was "Breathe" live, when I saw Ministry back in the day, same tour that generated this video, only imagine it without the drumming. Everyone in the audience was familiar with the song, so it still built tension like nothing, and when they finally started (around 3:26 in the video), the entire floor started jumping up and down...and I was carried along with it. Scared the shit out of me at the time, but it's a memory I love retelling. (wanders off to look up that remix)

the pot and the 2 associated resistors are the optional parts. and the values of the resistors change depending on what voltages you want. none of the 4.5 digit dvm's are accurate enough. Especially since if you reverse the leads you get different numbers. In fact 6.5 digit dvm's are just barely enough and the keithely ones in particular read different numbers if you flip the leads. The agilent ones do not. 7.5 or 8.5 digit dvm's highly recommended.

I didn't take pictures but I made some leftover stuffing waffles tonight. Should have put an egg in there to hold it together. Crunchy and tasty.

+1 on that. Lost my father in law back in July. Still can't really talk about it. I couldn't see him in the last days. However, he came to me in a dream a few days ago. He was checking out the new fish in the reef tank like he always did, I thought someone broke in, I went to approach and realized it was him. He said its ok, it's ok son, then he was gone. I felt very calm when I woke up in the morning like a weight was lifted. I'm guessing that was him saying goodbye

Thanks. I'm not an experienced musician, just a rookie wannabe, so for me it's not that easy guessing the kind of person playing and the kind of development it took to get that performance. I've been able to perceive and enjoy the Michelangeli's perfectionism and intellectual approach, the rigor or perhaps sort of "emotional sterility" on Pollini, the unique vision of Gould... but I've not been able to "get" what's behind Arrau's performances. Not that I've listened to everything he recorded, and never got to watch him live. I'm now listening to the first CD on the set that Jacob recommended. I think this is not the Arrau I've listened to in other performances
