  1. After doing 80 km on bike this morning I took a car ride. Towards a year that I didn't drive without top.

  2. About as nuts as unearthing a five year old thread and arguing with a ghost about a dead company.

  5. Oddly no, triggered by watching the Americans and hearing Squeeze which led to Sparks and then Joe Jackson. I somehow totally missed out on the existence of Joe Jackson until a few years ago when I was sitting in a bar in Brooklyn and was shocked to hear a weird version of an Anthrax song ... while I'm thinking of it ...

  13. Skated Maryhill this weekend at the summer RVOD G-Ride. Only skated the first day due to injuries, but still had a pretty good time. Here is my favorite run: And here is the run that Brent was probably eating a biscuit during, advanced to the relevant portion:

  14. I usually make my own BOMs following the board silkscreens. That way it'll definitely be up-to-date. The only non-obvious parts I remember are the LED, so use LTL-307ELC.

  15. I've got a set of boards that I would let go. I'll have to check what version they are.

  16. Have you already gone through the existing Dynahi thread? There will be some dead links, but using the search function will get you pretty far. https://www.head-case.org/forums/topic/9768-kg-balanced-dynahi-build-discussion-thread/?tab=comments#comment-468974

  17. I think that now it´s finished but I want to add a few resistor on the heaters filaments because I have 6.8vAC. Sometimes this happens to me with the Toroidy transformers. Front end tubes draw about 11,5mA. I was surprised that this amplifier has very little gain. On the other hand it makes up for it with a very pleasant and musical sound. I´m waiting a pair of E80CC for replacement the 6189.

  18. Thanks ! I'm using other quartets and I've found two that work relatively well (8 EH 6AC7 "Platinum Matched Quad"). Offset is located at -8 and 14Vdc and low to -3 and 8Vdc. Now I feel more code to listen to the amp. I'm listening to it right now, It's totally silent and I like its sound although the sound is a bit "bass" for my taste. In the first and second stages I am using 6189 Sylvania JAN and ECC83 Svetlana W"C" . I'll leave a little time before going through those E80CC... what the hell? I'm going to buy them now ? About 21K resistor I think that you used a 50K in parallel to 21K . I think that it´s a good idea use parallel resistor here. This resistor is a 3w and runs to around 45º. Edit update: 47K parallel to 21K, now I have 302Vdc. Some pics ☺️My amplifier is not finished yet. I have not been able to order the wiring, finish the LEDs, etc... Megatron and my "Universal HV PSU" P.S. yes, I know, the appearance of all my amplifiers are the same. ? P.S 2º this amp runs HOT like hell

  19. dac1541 is going to be the giant killer. r2r,sign/magnitude, fully balanced, and dsd for a price that is less than half of a yggy

  20. I was like when I read one of the post that mentioned the Lau is the best dynamic amp available because it is the most expensive and that Cavali prices the amp accordingly as to what can compete against it and obviously a step up from the GSX MK2 because it is MOAR expensive. Fuck me some people are absolutely clueless with a flawed logic.

  22. Mikhail... All singlepower extremes burned up their transformers. Once you put a real transformer on it, sounds great. ES1 and ES2, output tubes deliberately biased at -160 volts causing maximum VPSS voltage swing to be 800v. Very grim. all high voltage versions of the dynamic amps. major stupidity. singlepower squarewave. no heatsinks, burns up. But the fixed version is kickass for cheap. Rudistor silver plated copper wire reinforcement of hand etched circuit boards. major clusterfuck boxes of boxes of boxes. one of which is a resistor (current source) in a box with a fan headroom all the early stuff was built well and sounded like crap. very poor performance. (sorry tyll) sennheiser hev60 what a horrible design and their new $2k thing is a poor sounding piece of crap cavalli liquid fire, take a standard circuit, replace front end with tubes, output stage with mosfets. Then deliberately limit the available output current. Major clusterfuck liquid gold take a standard circuit and shrink both power supply voltages and number of output devices. and claim that it is true balanced. but to make sure, add real piece of crap buf634 driving drv134 to make unbalanced into balanced to drive it.

  23. I don't like lists or care at all about dynamic stuff but here are a few: Woo WES, took a good circuit and utterly fucked it up. Basically a quad single ended amp with no option for adjusting anything so everything drifts like mad Any of the Rudistor SS amps. All based on the same circuit and again, a quad of single ended amps that drift all over the place. All of the Rudistor electrostatic amps, all based on the Egmont circuit. Fine 500$ amp but 5K€? Terrible build quality and a bias supply that will destroy your headphones as a bonus. Alo Studio Six. Joke of a circuit and they think using a TKD volume control and 20cent Koa SPR2 resistors (aka Kiwame) makes up for the crappy transformers. Rule one for tube amps, budget everything for the transformers. Anything RSA though the A-10 and the Darkstar are the standout performers. The A-10 has to be witnessed by anybody looking for the ultimate "how is this crap possible!!??" EC Electra is utterly fucked but then again everybody knew that. Zane Deux also gets an honorable mention. Stock it is nothing special but then he did a "low impedance" version which simply takes the cake. Probably missed a few as I've been up for way too long... The Zana Deux

  24. ^This doesn't address the issue I highlighted (if indeed it was even meant to do so). That sites cater to the business end and not the hobby is manifest and has been for some time. That's fine and is a business decision I have no problem with. However, I continue to be mystified by how people who run such sites can get comfortable with their endorsements (express or implied) of vendors who are making false claims or who have outright committed fraud--in some cases using the forum as the medium, at least in part. I certainly would not be comfortable with that from a risk/liability perspective. We all say that "they don't care." In my opinion, "they" should. Not because it's "right," but because there's real risk. All it takes is one nasty AG with a bug up his ass. Accordingly, the notion that only one side (i.e., the positive side) can be presented doesn't make any sense to me.

  25. This is so true. I can't really remember or pinpoint when it happend. I have been a member at HF since 2003. During my early days I thought it was really great. And then everything went bad. I could never put my finger on why or how, but I thing Eggil might be on the right track here. The other issue might be that I started as a newbie, went through the meat grinder, and now I'm just a pile of old hamburger.

  26. I also truly don't get this utter delusion of "discussing the issues" with the manufacturers as a way of getting anything done. This is not how the world works and never has. That said I have tried this with both Cavalli and Woo Audio, neither have listened. This was also the basic stuff that any competent engineer should have avoided in the first place. Seriously, exposed pins on the PSU of the WES carrying +600V with more than enough current to kill you and the Exstata being designed to throw away parts on purpose. Something that springs to mind are the guidelines Hifi News and Record Review used back in the day when reviewing gear. They were the first to test the operational parameters of the gear so what should they do if the gear was way out of the published spec or simply sounded horrible? This was in the 60's so the components quality and build standards were not as consistent/good as they are now. They decided that the manufacturer was offered a chance to supply a new unit that worked to spec as shit happens but failing that, the full review was posted with all the gory details. As is clear to everybody we do our projects out in the open with nothing to hide. If there are issues then we address them but don't try to hide it. Shit happens is a good motto to have but it's hard to accept when one does have a god complex...

  27. ^This, 1000 times, this. That line of thinking is truly absurd. Their thinking is basically thus: "If you really wanted to help, you would keep it a big secret." Sunshine is the best disinfectant.

  28. Excuse me. I see this often and it drives me nuts. In what alternate universe is it proper or normal, or some sort of entitlement, that somebody who needs to be called out should be given an opportunity to work it out privately? Maybe Snowden should have directly contacted the NSA and "offered his advice"? If I do something wrong, will the cops call me up and "offer advice"? That is just not how the world fucking works. If it were to turn out that Alex is as right as rain here and Birgir is full of it, that would all come out in due course.
