OK, the passive demo speakers are on their way so it's too late to change right now. Will see how they sound when I get them6 points

Sweet, thanks Jim! I didn't see the demo. I did also notice that they have a used version of the actives for $4390 (which seems like a pretty good deal for amp+speakers). I still like the idea of passives. https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SCM20ASL--atc-scm20asl-pro-mk2-6.5-inch-powered-studio-monitors?cond=SCM20ASLU2 OK, I might have just ordered the demo passives.5 points

All boards are here and I am ready to start shipping the boards to the GB participants. I'll be using USPS Priority Mail for all US participants. All US GB participants please PayPal me $8.40 for the shipping charge. For international participants I will PM you the shipping charge after I have the package weighted at the post office. I have used first class mail without insurance and tracking in the past. Please let me know ASAP if you want to add tracking and/or insurance but be warned they are quite expensive options. I'll ship the package when I received your shipping payment. When you PayPal me, PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR SHIPPING ADDRESS and HEAD CASE ID if you have not done so when you PayPal'ed me the cost for the boards.3 points

Tidal says it is Live at Leeds 50th anniversary. As such I pay respects to the new boss, even if it is the same as the old boss. http://read.tidal.com/article/leeds-pete-townshend3 points

Thanks for the post This setup really works well in this very difficult room. Very tall ceilings and tons of reflective surfaces. Making anything sound decent here has always been a crazy challenge.3 points

As I said - the reviewers kind of stopped at the physical appearance, which they hated. I'd forgotten how superb they were inside, and that the A100 was dual mono! I do however remember the blue flexible links in the preamp. It wasn't long after those beautiful British manufactured products were built that Cambridge Audio made decision to have them built in Taiwan. The problem was that they were too expensive to build in the UK, and were close to making a loss on every single one sold. The Taiwan outfit (forget their name - it was 30-odd years ago!) used to build them , box them (including instruction manual etc) and ship to the UK for a goods inward cost less than the circuit board parts cost (ie not counting transformers and cases) at Cambridge Audio. Looked like a dog inside, with the cheapest brown circuit boards, but worked just fine. When we bought CA from the receiver, quite a bit of the stock was from Taiwan. As part of the appearance uplift we started manufacture back in the UK to get a grip on quality.3 points

ATC is pretty cool, if a little overpriced. I consider a used SCM40 to be the best deal, as it's the easiest way to enjoy their dome mid. Probably the SCM20 will also cut the proverbial mustard, but I'd try to get the active version as it's extra special. For less cashmonies Neumann KH310 is also quite delectable.1 point

The ATC room has always been the highlight for me at the past few axponas. I’m a fan of the actives only because you get to rid of a box. Some of the “cheaper” ones don’t have the same kind of bass extension, so I’d recommend getting the most expensive ones you can afford 😭1 point

I kind of like the idea of a Brooklyn Bridge and the actives myself 😈 I tried that briefly with Emotiva Airmotiv 5's to a nice result.....1 point

I don't think that smoothie looks innocent at all - it looks like it came straight from a nuclear clean up operation. I tried to find a suitable emoji and failed. Oh wait a minute Seriously Knucks - I'm really sorry you had such a bad a bad and scary day. It really must have come very close to food poisoning - or maybe it was just that.1 point

Fully concur on the fun recommendation. The first track is ultimately best skipped in my opinion but the rest made for a pleasant morning.1 point

I've had my set for over a month now and I would take them over the SR-009's but then again... never liked the 009's. I've been meaning to write up some impressions for the last couple of weeks so now might just be the time. First of the build quality is outstanding which means they are pretty heavy but yeah... very well made. The only issue I've run into is that there is a tiny bit of play where the forks attach to the cups but after a month of daily use they seem to be no worse for wear so probably not a long term issue either. I would also like some strain relief on the cables as they leave the cups (the 007Mk1 issues spring to mind) and on the plug but these are not easy to do on small scale build. They ideally have to be injection molded and well... that isn't cheap. Still this is me and I'm picky... 😉 The packaging is also superb and small touches like the markings on the cable splitter are appreciated. The fit is very much SR-Omega so a bit loose on the head and they have almost slid off a couple of times, usually when I'm lost in assembling some PCB boards or something like that and forgot they are there. Not really and issue under normal use. Now for the sound, same system as usual, Denafrips Terminator dac feeding a Carbon CC. I've yet to try the other set of earpads so they have the stock set attached... I think. Anyway... the set they shipped with. TL:DR, I like them a lot though I wouldn't call them an SR-Omega clone...they very much their own thing. Balanced sound signature over all but not quite as warm and relaxed as the Omega. There is a small bite to the mid-range that bothers me a bit on some recordings but far away from the SR-009 level of aggression. So not as smooth as I'd like it but that smoothness was also the Omega's downfall in some areas. Bass is not up to the SR-007 levels of depth, control and quality but perfectly fine and superior to any of the 009's. It's linear and extended but not the best there is. Still this is a more relaxed sounding set compared to the 007's so that is to be expected. Sound stage is controlled, yet expansive but can't quite pull off the layering trick the 007's can do so well but again... not really a complaint. Overall I don't think it is fair to compare them to the SR-Omega due to their status and the sad fact that so many Omegas out there sound far from stock. Bad earpads, badly treated drivers etc. all change how the old ones sound like while this one is nice and fresh... also not silly money. So very much recommended and it's always welcome when I have no complaints when testing something new. Small bite to the midrange that bothers me from time to time, not quite as engrossing as the SR-007's but yeah... just a different type of sound and nothing wrong with that. Finally, this set has been running for well over a month now and the amp used is being subject to a lot of power cycles (i.e. I'm using the time at home to do some stress tests) and they have had no complaints. No imbalance issues, charge up instantly and dead silent drivers.1 point

I'm very sad to say that Bob Weightman, the world's oldest man, died yesterday two months after his 112th birthday after a short battle with cancer. Peacefully in his sleep. RIP Bob. An astonishingly long life well lived.0 points

Oh boy. I've been deathly ill for the last day+ because of a smoothie I made yesterday: Look innocent enough, doesn't it? I used organic protein powder, ice and milk now that I have some back in the house. I also added a small amount of Almased, which is some hippie powder I got a local shop ages ago. I used this stuff before and it has upset my stomach, especially if I use too much or eat it too late at night. Well, yesterday I had a small amount in the middle of the day. I started feeling bad around 8PM and by midnight I was praying for death. I slept last night fitfully and didn't get out of bed for most of the day. I did manage to eat a bowl of oatmeal today, but not much else. I'm still feeling week and have residual headache. Needless to say, I took the remainder of the container and dumped in my back yard.
