  2. So I am necrobumping this thread from 7!!! years ago. This year is a bit different in a few ways. First, the Marathon will be run in virtual mode. Everyone runs it locally on their own and provides proof using their tracking tech. Secondly, this will be run both by Karen and Peter. Lastly, they are running a half-marathon rather than a full marathon. For my health’s sake I will not expound on the reasons for this. Anyway, anyone who would care to donate to St. Judes, your support would be gratefully appreciated. They will be running their half next weekend so it is coming up fast. You can donate as long as the page is active which should be at least until 12/9. Here is a link to Peter’s (The Boy Wonder) PAGE. Thanks in advance.

  4. I used to be able to get very close to them in Dutch Harbor, AK. There are no trees, and they're attracted to the fishing boats. Not my pic, but...

  5. Yesterday - hung out with the local riff raff. Given the size, likely a male. He hung around in that tree for a couple hours before moving on. Was pretty impressive to see.

  6. After getting all the frame and horizontal pieces chopped up, I decided the circular saw was not the right tool for this job when I need fancy cuts for the back, so I got a cheap other wood cutty thing.

  8. Speaking of Walkman,.. I've started watching The Crown season 4 and a scene with Dianna in Buckingham Palace rollerskating listening to her Walkman really brought back some personal memories of those times. My ex-wife Gael worked at a coffeehouse and she'd skate with Elvis Costello on her Walkman in the parking lot after closing. She too was achingly beautiful and it was a pleasure to just stand there and watch!

  10. Saturday afternoon lazy jazzy grooviness and space and psychedelia Istanbul Psychedelic | EFG London Jazz Festival 2020 EFG London Jazz Festival is delighted to present Istanbul Sounds, featuring three unique names from different generations of alternative Turkish music, welcoming audiences from Istanbul’s historical sites; psychedelia legends Baba ZuLa and Moğollar, Ilhan Ersahin's Istanbul Sessions, and Montreux Jazz Award winner Islandman. By mixing oriental instruments such as the darbuka, electric saz, and spoons with electronics and modern sounds, BaBa ZuLa creates a sound all their own called Istanbul psychedelia. While a ney can represent the past Sufi-Islamic tradition, and a clarinet is the symbol of the music of the Turkish gypsies - an electric saz together with a wooden spoon can serve as musical compass to Turkish musical roots going as far back as pre-Islamic, shamanic times, through Anatolia reaches all the way up to present-day Istanbul. Their forthcoming new album 'Hayvan Gibi' will be released on Night Dreamer later this year. Islandman provide a unique mix of mellow electronic dance beats with spacey live guitars, backed up with shamanic rhythms. After giving successful performances at festivals such as Cappadox, Sunbeat Festival, Apple Flower Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and Boom Festival, the trio continue their stratospheric rise, with an Anatolian tradition of fusing the music of the world with its own. Ilhan Ersahin presents his Istanbul Sessions during the performance - an instrumental and organic jazz, rock and dance group with exceptional musicianship and party vibe to get you up on your feet. This will be their first 'live' appearance after the release of their new album Bir Zamanlar Şimdi is released on Friday 13 November through Nublu Records. Headlining the evening are pioneers Moğollar bringing their psych folk rock. Leading the way since the late '60s, they bring multi-layered and polyphonic mix rich in technicality and folklore. Their music paved the way for the psychedelic Turkish music scene, retaining their monolith stature to this day. This year, they recorded their 12th studio album direct-to-disc with England's Night Dreamer Records using all vintage equipment, continuing their reign as revolutionary Anadolu Pop leaders This concert is kindly supported by İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s İstanbul Kültür Ofisi Istanbul Psychedelic | EFG London Jazz Festival 2020 EFG London Jazz Festival is delighted to present Istanbul Sounds, featuring three unique names from different generations of alternative Turkish music, welcoming audiences from Istanbul’s historical sites; psychedelia legends Baba ZuLa and Moğollar, Ilhan Ersahin's Istanbul Sessions, and Montreux Jazz Award winner Islandman. 11. Got the re-tipped Zu DL-103 back yesterday. Today I mounted the cartridge, set the tracking force, aligned the cartridge and set azimuth and VTA. The custom belt is due on Tuesday, so I'll check the sound then. My last pieces of wood for the new stand shipped today. should be here soon. It's all coming together.

  15. It does! 49 keys. That's still more keys than the CME XKey (which I have) or the QuNexus. Looks like the Roli Seaboard has it, as well (also 49 keys). Or for more than 88 keys, the Linnstrument (128 or 200 keys). Which, considering my recent (as of several hours ago) discovery of the 17-tone Turkish scale (12-tone with 5 specially placed half-tones) is of particular interest...hmmm...

  18. Going to figure out how to set the wood cutter thingee to 45 degree angle and make corner braces like shown with leftover 1x1 boards. I think that will look better than a single cross piece.

  19. Even if it doesn't immediately rack, it probably will over time. Like Steve suggested originally, I'd recommend a diagonal or x-brace for stiffness. Either that or gusset the corners significantly.

  28. That time is now. The Soncoz LA-QXD1 I purchased is pure garbage, and I can't believe I ever thought it would be a good idea. It gibbers and pops constantly, loses sync whenever my AC condenser cycles on, and defaults to minimum volume every time it does so. The interface is inscrutable, and I had to find direct links to the driver downloads through the Wayback Machine (!!) because the manufacturer's site is currently down. I ended up just buying the thing I wanted in the first place, the RME dac.

  31. This whole discussion has made me realize that my slightly modified EAD DSP 1000 has been in storage for 5 years. Geez. I have a plan for it but at what point is a plan no longer valid? I'll update that research in 5 years or so I guess.

  32. Ended up having a very scary day. So a week ago Friday I called my broker and said "I need to pay [big bills]. Pls move [four digit sum of money] to my main bank account." On this past Monday, I wrote some checks, totaling about 2/3 of what I deposited. Then I paid off a few more bills. I noticed that my bank account was still showing the amount pre-deposit, but these transactions sometimes take an extra day to clear. Also, I knew that the checks I wrote on Monday wouldn't be cashed for a day or two. Then I got kind of ill. I have chronic digestive problems, and they acted up big time mid-late week. I actually had a horrible day Friday, but still managed to do a radio show I'm quite proud of, but I digress... That meant I wasn't doing much business for most of the week. Today I went out and did some light grocery shopping. One of the locations I frequent refused my ATM card, but that's not unusual. I have one of the new chip-encrusted cards, which offer greater security by not fucking working at least half the time. I paid my bill with a credit card and got on with my day. At my final stop, once again attempted used my ATM card, for like $40 in food. The cheerful clerk said I aid "insufficient funds." I said "uh oh" and paid with the same credit card. I stopped at the ATM, and instead of (based on my back of the napkin math) having a positive balance in the low four digits, I had a negative balance well into the three digit range. Somewhere along the way, somebody fucked up big time. I'd say most likely me, and it probably is, but in general I'm far better than that at managing money and I don't usually make $2500+ errors. Of course I can't do a single fucking thing about this until business hours on Monday. In between now and then I can ruminate on issues like ...did the transfer no go through? How many checks did I bounce this week? Is my broker drunk on the job? It's a good thing I don't have any hair to tear out.
