Some pics of the motor housing restoration / upgrade, as everything got back from the polisher today (excuse the fingerprints). My previous DIY motor housings have just had a top plate with the motor attached. This one actually clamps the motor against a piece of sorbothane sheeting which resulted in a lot less noise at the platter. Now I need to work on the motor controller2 points

I told the realtor I would take the 3 car garage with the shop above but did not need the house. They did not think the owner would go for that.1 point

I'm sure the A version of the BC556 should do just fine. Just a note on the thermal grease. I've had issues with some types being conductive at 500+ volts - it's been years so I don't remember what I used. Make sure it doesn't get between the Aavid washer and the screw / ceramic insulator. Looking good so far1 point

Aaron Rose, Photographer In Isolation, Dies at 84 https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/11/arts/aaron-rose-photographer-dead.html?referringSource=articleShare Mr. Rose made his own cameras and other devices, and Rebecca Hackemann, who was his assistant and archivist from 1999 to 2005, said his studio was a sight to behold. “It was littered with glass and silver globes, optical devices and cameras he had built himself that replaced lenses with pinholes,” she said by email. “It was like walking into a different century.” In his darkroom, he spurned the ready-made chemicals available from Kodak and other manufacturers; its walls were lined with bottles and cans full of mysterious substances.1 point

The key difference between a toroid and an R-core is primary/secondary capacitance and leakage inductance. R-core has primary and secondary on opposite legs. So the capacitance is low, but the leakage inductance is high. With a toroid, the capacitance is high, but the leakage inductance is low. So an R-core (like a split bobbin EI) is better for not coupling RFI between windings. But the leakage inductance means enough stray magnetic field to cause potential hum problems. A toroid by contrast, because of the tight coupling between the windings, tends to couple RF. But because of the low leakage inductance has a very low external magnetic field. Basically, horses for courses. I've used both types in various bits of my kit. But since I always use an outboard supply (for non-power amp use) either type has worked just fine.1 point

So I never thought anything on the Disney channel would ever be for me, but on the recommendation of a friend I've been giving Star Wars: Rebels a shot. Wow, Rebels is actually pretty darn good! Someone had told me that Rebels is a better Star Wars experience than the 3 prequel movies. I think they may be right.1 point
