  1. Glue Ups for the cabinet sides are coming along nicely. The Dominos really make it much easier.

  2. I've always liked Desmond's way of playing. Dave Brubeck might have been a good pianist... but the soul of his quartet was Paul

  6. i had general impressions of Utopia ready within an hour of receiving them but took the week to work through various material (still a lot to go). significant upgrade from Elex and Clear. there's a bigger gap from Clear to Utopia than Elex to Clear and i think it's because Utopia does things that Clear simply cannot HD600 comparison is apt, actually i think Utopia is more in-line with presentation of HD600/580 than Clear or Elear. there's a subtlety and smoothness to Utopia that is not in Clear, in hindsight i actually may be finding Clear a little wild now in it's presentation god-tier detail, imaging, bass, PRaT not bright. not to me. had some female vocals at time that i thought were slightly-off tonally and then went back to HD580 to compare and it was effectively identical the most unexpected thing is how easy they are to listen to. you'd think with this insane level of detail that it would be devoid of emotion or push you out of zen state... well i have the complete opposite experience. shocking ability for intimacy. so... yeah. this headphone concludes my adventure. there's nowhere else i care to go. TLDR Nums put it right.

  7. R10, Qualia, and K1000. Also, the HD800 done right can also do that but to a lesser degree.

  8. Just completed the work with another board (right in picture below) and it is now up and playing. Yesterday I milled board similar to one just done. But unfortunately I forgot to correct the resistor string mentioned here... ...so it died in thunder and lightning. Made a new corrected board today and moved the good parts from the faulty board. Also had to fix the PSU. Due to all earlier disasters I know which parts that need to be replaced…

  9. They do make another variant of that heatsink (2100G) which is not drilled/tapped, but I don't know if anyone stocks it. You could drill and tap that one for whatever reasonable fastener you wanted to use (4-40 or M3).

  10. If you noticed in the datasheet, these are threaded for a 6/32 Imperial screw, which will not fit thru the insulator that you are using. I think most people use a longer screw with a nut/washer on the back (long enough that it is outside of the fins). Or use a 6/32 nylon screw with no insulator, but I don't know if that is verified to be tight enough or not.

  12. The Utopia is super efficient and sounded utterly great from my lower power walkman all the way to my SuSy Dynalo. The treble and smallish head stage did me in though...so I sold it over 2 years ago. I can’t deny the speed, and sense impact the Utopia brought to the table though.

  16. I like it. If we can bring back outdoor BBQing again that would make perfect background music especially for the European visitors. They already think for some odd reason that I host strange BBQ events.

  20. So I shifted the Teac into the main headphone system in place of the NAD M51: So now I can use my Two Little Bears (Passive XLR switchers) to shift between the Mytek or Teac as input and the GS-X, DHSA or BHse as output:

  21. Larry McMurtry, author of The Last Picture Show, Terms of Endearment, Lonesome Dove, and Brokeback Mountain dies at 84. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-56542882 I’m always going to remember him though for All My Friends Are Going to Be Strangers, a novel about not fitting in in San Francisco, while wasting time at the cinemas, a book I read when I moved to San Francisco and wasted lots of time in cinemas.
