Songs from the Cool World The first CD I ever listened to... a lucky and somewhat random library loan, it was particularly eclectic and amazingly it's even more awesome now than I thought back in 1992 (I thought it was overly-simple, repetitive, and varied too much in quality back then... too slight for its playing time). How tastes change. And despite my less-than-astute assessment of the music's merits, I borrowed it again several times over the years, eventually graduating from my dad's stereo, to the family's CD boombox, then my own portable CD player. I didn't know much about the soundtrack artists or their back catalog because the internet as we know it didn't exist yet. Yes, I watched Cool World in the theater. A life-changing album. I ended up getting all of the Thrill Kill Kult albums (even the bad ones) and oddly, I didn't pick up this CD for myself until a few years ago. Sex on wheelz indeed... Two years later, the Kult featured again on a hit soundtrack... you might remember... for The Crow.4 points

Here are the connectors disassembled. Pins are from Neutrik NC3FD-L-B-1. Take a metal saw and make a cut so you can bend up the outer metal housing. Then pins can be removed from inner housing. I would have prefer Teflon over 3D printed. I haven’t figured out how to mill it out though, but I managed to 3D print something usable.3 points

As a Jew, I am somewhat extra sensitive to Holocaust "mentions." But I do personally agree with Craig. I think mentions like that are likely out of ignorance need education, and likely no further action. Mentions out of hatred would likely be easy to notice (I would hope), and THEN punitive action may be warranted. Marjorie Taylor Greene, for example, should be punished (more) IMO. Just my opinion......2 points

Well you certainly cannot make jokes about the holocaust, that is for sure. However at the time, the guy was 24, probably extemporizing and came out with what looks like one sentence. In all likelihood he had totally forgotten about it. Someone has clearly trawled through his past performances looking for mischief, and found something from when he was half the age he is now. I know several stand up comedians. My daughter went out with two of them. The best known is this guy https://www.ericlampaert.com/ , and let me tell you his humor can be pretty challenging. I'll bet if you poked around his past performances you could find something inappropriate. Like most comedians they prototype material at smaller venues, make a note of what works and what bombs. Then craft a show based on material they know to work. I suspect the one liner about the holocaust bombed, and was never repeated. He probably said it and then thought "oh fuck - what did I just say?" I'm not defending the guy's comment, just that I can understand how it happened.2 points

I was gonna stick one of the Omega NATOs on the 1861 Speedy, because…. I dunno. It’s summer? Whatever that means. But the Forstner JBC bracelet is just brilliant, so I could not be bothered. I just knew I wanted to wear a Speedy, and the pre-moon (which I have worn a NATO on) is too fragile for day-to-day.2 points

It's hard to get excited hearing Hallelujah on this album after hearing her live performance here. It's my favorite version of Cohen's brilliant song.2 points

Nice looking! I was planning on swapping the Speedmaster Spectre back on the bracelet, which is nicer than I expected, but the seems made for the NATO so that’s where it has stayed… HS1 point

At @Grahame's suggestion, I started in on The Prisoner. (Streaming free on IMDB TV) Wow! First two episodes are great! Using the search function here I can see many others are fans as well.1 point

Right, so still a clamping design which I imagine makes mounting a lot easier, but you do solder the pins after inserting them. Got it. Yep, those tulip pins were the ones used in the jacks I got from luvdunhill about 10 years ago. A bitch to solder, but they haven't let me down yet! That looks like a direct 3D print of the milled version? Seems to work beautifully with the tulip pins. I imagine you still solder these after assembly? * My $0.02 if it were me 3D printing these, I'd flip them upside down and put the 'customer facing' surface on the build plate. It would mean you have to use supports around the overhangs, but you'd get a much cleaner/prettier result on the surface you can see. I'd also consider using low-warp nylon; if your printer can print ABS and PETG well, chances are it can manage nylon as well, it usually only needs about 250°C on the hotend. The only real difficulty is that you absolutely must keep nylon filament bone dry before and during printing, and use a quality adhesion aid (Magigoo PA is very good on glass and PEI). The real benefit is that nylon will be stronger and more dimensionally stable than both ABS and PETG, and heat resistance should be as good as PETG.1 point

This was anticipated in 1875: My grandfather's clock was too tall for the shelf So it stood ninety years on the floor It was taller by half than the old man himself But it weighed not a pennyweight more It was bought on the morn on the day that he was born It was always his treasure and pride But it stopped, short, never to go again When the old man died Ninety years without slumbering Tic toc tic toc His life's seconds numbering Tic toc tic toc etc1 point

Not sure what your threshold is, but if you like your prog borderline avant, I highly recommend Wax People (recent EP release) and All Traps on Earth (several year old album -- kinda Zeuhl, vaguely jazzy (in the same way that A Passion Play is vaguely jazzy), mostly instrumental symphonic prog, very great). My experience has been if they can't make any build fit in a Tik ToK video it doesn't get done.1 point

I've told this story before, but in 1993 I was working for DHL and one day I had a delivery for Todd Rundgren. A young (as yet unknown) 16ish y.o., beautiful girl answered the door. When I told her that I had an envelope for Todd, she said that she was his daughter and would give it to him. She was very pleasant and I told her how much I loved her Father's music. We chatted for a minute or two, then I carried on with my route. A year or two later, when I was back in Anchorage, I was watching music videos on TV. An Aerosmith video came on, with Alicia Silverstone and the young girl I'd had the conversation with. Shortly after that I found out that this beautiful girl wasn't Liv Rundgren, but actually Liv Tyler.1 point

Hello all, Carbon finally done, tested and buttoned-up - sounds great and very quiet. This was indeed a fun & satisfying project. I would like to specially thank the following members for all their generous assistance with this challenging build (my first high voltage electrostatic amplifier) Kerry, sweetleaf, mwl168, jamesmking and JoaMat never worked with SMD's before and needed A LOT of help to debug & trouble shoot issues with the GRHV/LV power supplies, and could not have gone that far without tapping from your guys invaluable experience and know-how. There is only so much one can find inside the forums without getting lost. Thank you for all your patience with my million newbie questions and guiding me in the right direction. I learned a lot from this project and built some additional confidence for the next one. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FkZ7RoqedCKawiJt-7tgDJJX6AZyXC9Q/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/18HvzLtLvBteYe1kmUapJWf5N8k0qjX_m/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BstEhS5A36FX8IedeIkk08jyVrDj30ld/view?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/1iJm0reOXiFpjoqV2hYRZgmjf5-uaMpIn/view?usp=sharing Please let me know if there are a few tweaks that I can do to improve the layout, tried my best to keep it compact in a 2U chassis while separating the power supplies, wiring from the signal to lower noise, etc.. I welcome criticism, every experience is a lessons-learned.1 point
