Because Fitz hasn't been around lately. š In other shop news, my niece's husband is not an astronaut but he does build a nice bench with Veritas vices and other fixtures. He's also given me the hand tools and such on the temp shelves below on indefinite loan. With three Lie Nielsen planes and sharpening gear available, I guess I'll try shaping wood and honing tools by hand (Tice bait).6 points

No, was already there, just posted some pictures for feedback. It will just be there for a week. Last weeks picture was moose dung carved out of hickory.3 points

This is bullshit. You need to slave away at more meta building for your own bench. Pfffffftttttt. Pretty sweet, almost went with that type of bench with the same vices. I feel like I need to get at least one Lie Nielsen plane to compare to the Veritas planes I have.2 points

Thanks again....the rest of the day was great, had a nice fish dinner right on the water with fresh hog snapper. My neighbor tables overheard it was my BDay and all sang to me (and they weren't even dunk!). I also continued today where I had an awesome BBQ lunch, and went to my second stereo store in 2 days. It was nice to listen (only in the first) to systems north of $50K and have several aspects of both my speaker-based systems sound better!! So a happy camper is me.... š1 point

LOL. Good stuff, ER. I'm already looking forward to the weekend so that I can have the Bianca kicking my arse again... Some equipment has showed up that will make my life easier like the tamp/leveler you recommended and I have a nice stainless milk steamer pitcher vs the coffee cup I used last weekend. HS1 point

Dunhill joined me for a movie, last night, after I turned on the space heater. Coraline, if anybody was interested (Field of Dreams, which I had never seen, was first. It was delightful, but Dunhill didnāt join for that). It wasnāt Bossa Nova, so Silver couldnāt be bothered. She loves Bossa Nova (especially when itās a Stan Getz video; good taste) and ignores almost anything else. She stares intently and keeps perfect time with her ears (this is not a joke) to Bossa Nova music. I have video evidence.1 point

4 was too fine. But itās a perfectly nice cup of washed Finca Los Andes. Just the basic Hoffman recipe. I find his basic recipes to be good starting points. Precisely zero bitterness, though. Not really any stronger than my standard V60 method, I would say. Chocolatey, nice brightness (this was a medium-light roast, water was 210F). Coats the back of the tongue nicely. It was certainly easy. I can see why my old roommate stole it from me 15 years ago. 13.75/250 would probably fill the mug, and is what I would do next time, and at a 5 on the SSP multipurpose (I grind rather fine for pour over, and this really wanted something closer to my pour over than espresso, based on the puck being a bit wet).1 point

Strong recommendation for the bronze #4. It's the quintessential LN tool, and the one most distinct from Veritas.1 point

Hilarious. The first video especially. It looks like he can barely hold in the laugh.1 point

Speaking of Alonso vs Hamilton, am I imagining things, or does it seem like he still likes to subtly give him the finger (5:22, 0:15)1 point

Building shop cabinets is kind of meta woodworking. We made a nearly 16' level base/toe kick and cut all of the parts for the cabinets, miter saw stand, and work surface at the back of the shop today. Laser leveled the base/toe kick that straddles the short remaining strip of the old slab and the new slab, so that all cabinets built on top will automatically be level (assuming they are squared up properly). The Sawstop with Jessem roller wheels (like the ones Jeff just bought) and two people was brilliant at breaking down and sizing the plywood. Cuts through it like buttah.1 point

14 Peaks on Netflix. About Nimsdai Purja climbing all 14 mountains over 8000 metres. All in the Himalayas of course. In 7 months. Previous record: 7 years. In the process he broke 6 mountaineering world records. Stunning. One of these massive mountains he did with a stinking hangover! https://www.netflix.com/gb/title/81464765 By the same production team that did Free Solo https://films.nationalgeographic.com/free-solo about Alex Honnold free climbing El Cap in 3 hours. Full thing on Amazon Prime. I defy you not to grab the arms of the chair and curl your toes for that one.1 point
