I skipped posting some albums the first time because I really thought it's impossible to narrow it down to five. However, giving some more thought to it and being honest, there're five albums (cheating a little bit) that will be the favourites ever because they became a part of my memories from when I was young. the order is just orientative. 1.- The Beatles: Abbey Road (yes, I love Revolver, Rubber Soul, Let it Be and Help! too, and like all the others, however this one is my recurring goto). I never got it in vinyl, I "stole" an original cassette from my godmother aunt. 2.- Toto: Hydra 2.- Supertramp: Crisis, What Crisis? It's not a mistake, there are two #2. As a teenager I was poor. I had spent my savings of about 3 years in a stereo system, so I was broke and had little money to buy records. These two albums were recorded from friends LPs into a 90' cassette, one each side of the tape. I can't say how many times I listened to that tape with headphones in my bedroom. Later I bought the Supertramp's in vinyl. 3.- Pink Floyd: The Dark Side of the Moon This one I got directly in vinyl with Atom Heart Mother. Later came Wish You Were Here. I never got to really dig The Wall with the same devotion. 4.- Sting: The Dream of the Blue Turtles I love most of Police albums and a couple of them would have made a larger than 5 favourites list. I think Sting is a unique, gifted, tune composer. He got better albums than this, I know, but this one and its "If you love someone set them free" was released the year that my father died. A lot of reasons made it getting stuck in my head forever. 5.- Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong: Ella & Louis I made acquaintance with this one a few years later, but soon got into that cloud of favourite albums. It was a tie with Grover Washington Jr's "Winelight" though, which got there earlier in my life.4 points

I can't pick just 5, so I'll give 10. A few of these have more to do with what they meant to me at the time of their release. For example: Rod Stewart's The Killing of Georgie really helped me deal with my sexuality at a very confusing 16 years of age. Dire Straits: Making Movies K. D. Lang: Shadowland Stevie Nicks: Belladonna Bruce Springsteen: Born to Run Queen: A Night at the Opera Willie Nelson: Stardust Rod Stewart: A Night on the Town B.B. King: Six Silver Strings Allman Bros.: Eat a Peach Neil Young: Harvest Just realized I've already previously picked 5 albums. I guess it depends on the day, as only one pick made both lists.3 points

Great news, at least for the fencing crowd and our family. The US men' and women's teams medaled, silver...even without Lance's help. The French women's Olympian whom Lance used to train with and bested a few times, took gold. She was coached by her fiancé who used to train at the club as well. While training in So Cal they used to come over for my BBQ and Booker Syrah. I truly believe that is what led to their results and medals.2 points

I've actually been thinking about this all day. Not necessarily my top 5 albums/performances, but a couple of them are, I think. These, however, are albums that I could play on loop and not get tired of them. Ideally, Unplugged In New York would be a BluRay of the concert with lots of extra footage, but all of these albums have songs, if not an entire album, which can instantly take me back to an interesting time in my life where I have a lot of mostly-positive associations. In no particular order other than size of the image I randomly grabbed: Nirvana - Unplugged In New York Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds - Live At Luther College Gorillaz - Gorillaz Red Hot Chili Peppers - Californication Third Eye Blind - Third Eye Blind2 points

Just bought a lightly used and recently serviced Izzo Vivi HX E61 PID on eBay. Finally got an E61! I love my Flair 58. As Greg said, the learning curve is steep, but once you got it… Niche is my preferred grinder for it (I use the SSP burr’ed ode for filter). The Niche is wonderful for things down to about “regular” AeroPress grind (which I do coarser than moka). It’s perfectly fine for coarser. The NZ will perform better for pour over (this is “coarser”) than you or your papers or your coffee. It’s brilliant for espresso, of course My pour over of choice is the Brewista Tornado with CAFEC light, for one cup. I like Chemex for larger brews.2 points

Ha! Is anything from my list then still in my list now? Maybe one. Probably none. I dare say I haven't listened to at least three of them since. edit: that said, I could listen to the Merry Clayton parts of Gimme Shelter daily for the rest of my life. The rest of it? Meh.2 points

I think I was (volunteering) in an addiction shelter upon first hear..."Scar Tissue" was my morning song on repeat! "Get On Top" in a Chevy Blazer sounds like a pretty perfect setup.1 point

When I got it I was listening through a Sony or Aiwa shelf system, Porta Pro Jr. headphones, or the speakers in my 1993 Chevy Blazer. I did get an LFF remaster of it back in the day which was a bit flat, and the original was… what it was. The emotions I have with it make up for the drawbacks. Plus, Porcelin is such a good song.1 point

My current top 5 would probably have several that have been on it for many years: Chameleons UK - Script of The Bridge/Strange Times (tied) Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures Propaganda - A Secret Wish October Project - s/t The last, as well as likely many honorable mentions, are a little more variable....1 point

>8 year bump. Allison and I were talking through this exact topic last night and i remembered this discussion from forever ago... pretty fun to go back and see where I was and where I am now. some things remain and some don't. I feel a lot more confident these days especially in honorable mentions as I've build up far more breadth and understanding of some genres, especially metal. Top 5: The Smashing Pumpkins - Siamese Dream. Still as complete as ever. Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood. Still the best female vocals for me. Radiohead - In Rainbows. Over time I've realized that it's nice to just hear how amazing Radiohead can be and not have to think too much about it. Their most listenable album. Tool - Lateralus. Still the best metal and progressive blended together and polished beyond imagination. Sufjan Stevens - Carrie & Lowell. I go to a lot of different individual songs when I need to come to grips with death. This is the only full album though. Couldn't count the number of times I've cried while listening to this one. Honorables: The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I. Not sure why this wasn't on the old list. Not far off of Pumpkins in terms of an album I would want people to think of when they think of me. Converge - Jane Doe. I have absorbed so much heavy music in the last 3-5 years and amongst all of it, this is truly supreme for chaos. HUM - Inlet. I'm a child of the 90's and this is the closest anyone got in recent times to peak 90's rock. On permanent repeat. Tash Sultana - Flow State. The album that got me back into caring about headphones because I became obsessed with making this sound as good as possible. Legendary opener. Kaki King - Dreaming of Revenge. My favorite acoustic album with stellar intimate vocals as a big plus. Art Pepper + 11 - Modern Jazz Classics. Art had it all and this is 100% bangers. The Beatles - Revolver. Love arguing with Allison about why this is the best. Do Make Say Think - Stubborn Persistent Illusions. My favorite post rock. A perfect deep thinker. Tool - Aenima. Has closed the gap with Lateralus over the years. I find the two completely complimentary now. Wouldn't argue with anyone preferring this from the full cataloge. See ya'll in 2030.1 point

Indeed the amount of farts has no impact on the sound once the seal is established (man, this sentence sounds so wrong out of context... 🤪 ), the problem is that my 007 Mk1's farts are borderline painful to the ear and will creep in whenever I have to reposition the unit on my head, which is quite often if the set is loose and cannot maintain its fit. Wouldn't at least a large part of it amount to tuning? Technically I don't know what needs to be done in an e-stat driver such as these to change tuning, apart from the obvious (and infamous) port on the 007 Mk2 / 007A. What's objectively true is that the measured frequency responses of the 007 Mk1 and the 007 Mk2 with the blu-tac mod are still different, which shows that the port alone cannot account for all differences in that regard. Granted that the measured 007 Mk2 unit in the link above is the latest (2.9) version and hence different from my 007A (which, by the serial number, is likely from the first production run), but you get the gist. It's possible that the earpads' differences in geometry may also have an impact on tuning, but I believe it's minor (I think it mostly affects the soundstage and the imaging, supposing all seals are equally good). If I get the nerve to swap the earpads, I'll be able to somewhat settle this question (at least in my case). I've noticed a considerable upgrade in dynamics after the CCS mod on the SRM-T1S, but I do realize there are still some shackles binding my 007's with this energizer. I don't really consider using the 007 with a volume higher than 10 o'clock something normal - for instance, a Lambda SR-L407 paired with the SRM-T1S sounds fine with one hour less volume (as it should, since the latter was indeed designed to be used with the former) -, and the aforementioned limitations on both the 007A and the 007 Mk1 are evidence of that. Let's see... But I don't think these will lose too much value even if that happens, because the demand is high despite the BHSE's price. Problem for me is, these Mjölnir Audio / HeadAmp energizers never show up in the used audio market here in Brazil, and our custom taxes are no joke. Again, I'd be happy with a used KGST already... 😔1 point

I use the Kalita Wave 185. I'd say the Hario V60 is more popular, so probably the safest bet for single cup. For multiple cups, the Chemex would be my choice.1 point

You may be right regarding sense of height, I'll pay closer attention to that in future comparisons and update here after that. Also... Your Mk2's seal is better than your Mk1's? Interesting... My 007A got farty after the blu-tac mod, but nowhere as farty (or as loud doing that) as my 007 Mk1. I guess I got lucky with my 007A in that regard - its long-term comfort is flawless, I basically put it on my head and forget it's there. I'm still experimenting with bending the arcs on my 007 Mk1, until I manage to keep the set at the right position. Since the farts are so loud, it gets really annoying to keep adjusting the fit, but I do appreciate both the fact that the seal on my 007 Mk1 is so good and the augmented soundstage due to the angle on the earpads. That's why I'm still hesitating to swap earpads, also because the 007 Mk1's earpads are reportedly more difficult to reassemble than the 007A's due to the wider springs. A couple of interesting points you made above. Indeed with my CCS-modded SRM-T1S both my 007A and my 007 Mk1 get too "dark" at lower volumes (9 o'clock and lower), whereas my older Lambda keeps sounding just fine at 9 o'clock. The problem rises to 10-11 o'clock with more compressed tracks, and is somewhat worse with the 007A. This is the clearest indication that the SRM-T1S is still somewhat underpowering these sets even after the CCS mod, but I concur that this energizer is completely inadequate for driving a 007 (of any generation) without this mod. I also have the impression, after listening for a somewhat longer period, that the 007 Mk1 is in fact a tad too shouty in the high mids / lower treble at the "optimal" volume setting of 10-11 o'clock as compared to the more (sometimes a bit too much) relaxed 007A - yet another sign of underpowering. With a more powerful amp, I could probably listen to them at lower volumes (with ensuing greater sonic comfort, in the case of the 007 Mk1) without losing resolution or clarity. Which brings me to the point of which would be the ideal match. Much has been said about how well the 007 Mk1 pairs with the BHSE (that was, by the way, the combo used by my 007 Mk1's former owner); among all the expected improvements, I reckon this combo probably doesn't sound as shouty. The fact that the 007 Mk2 sounds better to you with the Carbon than the Mk1 makes sense since it's a SS circuit, however warm it may be as far as SS goes (thanks to the SiC output FETs). However, the BHSE is far beyond my budget right now (and I don't even have enough room for it due to its separate power supply), as is the Carbon. That's why the KGST actually sits higher on my wish list than the BHSE, since I still crave the warmth of the tube sound but don't want to get a mortgage and/or remodel my office for its sake. For the time being, though, I'll have to make do with what I have, so I'm trying to make the most out of it.1 point

The Hario V60 is definitely a mainstay; if you go to basically any 3rd wave coffee bar. chances are their pour-overs are with that. Here are the brewers I own: V60: it has a good chance of being fairly close to what the roaster would serve in one of their cafes. Said to bring out acidity and sweetness, but the V60 is so widespread that I consider it the "default" for comparison Tornado: more consistent. A bit less pointed of a profile than the V60 CAFEC Deep: emphasizes brightness without acidity, but can make things a bit more bitter if you're not careful. In general, I think if you already have a Chemex, the V60 seems different enough to give a try. Also, it's not at all a challenge to alter the taste slightly by changing filter papers, technique, etc.1 point

Streaming audio from the iPhone and MacBook both seem to work quite well. I went back and read some product literature on the Belkin and I guess it has a microphone to calibrate the audio and prevent any synch issues. I did have an issue with an app on the phone where it would send audio and video to the AirPlay device, and the screen would just say that the video is being played via AirPlay. But that seems to be a developer issue as everything else worked flawlessly. Let me know if there's anything specific you want me to check. Hulu, Apple TV+, and Netflix all worked fine.1 point

Hi Timb5881, I find that these headphones care more about your source material than they do the genre at hand. Meaning, I've heard many genres through these venerable masters, and all they do is reveal. Bad recording/source file/master etc, bad performance. But great mixes/masters are amazing reproduced on my SR-Sigma's. I can't speak for the others on this forum, as some have modded to the 404 drivers and have even better sound (which I can't even fathom right now because I love these already as is). Revealing as they are, I tend to use these only on masters I know are great and my own timeline edits (These are great editing headphones, earspeakers for purists, as they give me all the detail in the world to work with) so I can reveal any flaws in the mix. While technology has come a long way since, in some ways it hasn't. Think of the Sigma's as a large format camera. A 1950's 4X5 camera (Linhof Technica or equivalent) shooting a 50iso negative is going to demolish any digital camera in detail and texture and image quality, under $15,000-20,000. Only the latest megapixel beasts from Phase One, or Leica's S series will beat it or come close. Empyrean, Abyss, LCD4z's etc might have a slight edge, but you also have to pay the price tag. But arguments can be made for both camps. I reckon that the detail about the unique position of the drivers has a lot to say about the magic of the SR-Sigma's. So yes, short answer, it all sounds great. But then, I am listening from the angle of wanting to hear it all, flaws as well as the moments of genius.1 point

$1000+ custom IEM = 100% no go for my wallet. IEMs by nature are just too fragile (in my book) to put that kind of investment in. Certainly part of that is due to how I use them (mowing the grass, snow blowing the driveway) so my sensitivity to that risk is probably above average.1 point
