  1. Here is my CFA2 built on dip 16 sockets as 2 balanced dual mono amps with 2 GRLV power supplies (also built on dip 16 sockets). Balanced input is from a Benchmark DAC and balanced output is to Grado PS500e with Mogami quad 2534 cable (each amp cabled to each ear). There are eight sockets with 125 pins used (3 pins are not used on the opamp) and 40 wires. Six wires go the the heatsink components. First channel is running 150 mA bias and DC offset was 30 mV without the opamp, 0.2 mV with it. Still have to build the other three channels.

  2. This was actually yesterday. We went to Oxford to a concert by this wind quintet https://lumaswinds.com/ . First rate professional musicians. Three fiendishly difficult pieces https://lumaswinds.com/concert/university-church-oxford/ Astonishingly for such amazing musicians, the concert was free! And because we are now "senior citizens" we have a bus pass that gives us free travel. And the bus stop is within a hundred yards of our house. What is not to like? We got away with "free" before we blew out on a meal at Quod https://www.quod.co.uk/ 🍽️

  3. Took my 13 year old grandson Logan up to see the Mariners vs Padres yesterday. It was his first ball game as well as his first train ride and his first time to Seattle. Fortunately we squeezed in before the rail strike caused a bunch of cancellations. It was a great day. Perfect weather and the short walk from King Station to T-Mobile Park takes you right by the Seahawks stadium so it was cool to see that. It was Hispanic Heritage Day and Rodriguez and Suarez both homered in the 1st inning so that was pretty badass. Mariners won 6-1. I am really liking the M's this year. Rodriguez is the real deal and Saurez is a beast, and they have good defense and pitching so the pieces are in place for a deep playoff run 🤞 I am a bit of a purist so in the past I was always a National League guy because I hated the DH rule and I loved the chess game-within-the-game and small ball type baseball. Now, given the ubiquity of the DH rule, I have decided to dump the Dodgers and go full rabid fan on the Mariners. I just can't do the Dodgers anymore. They are the new Yankees (best team money can buy). So GO MARINERS!!! The other American League team I thought about are the Angels. The Angels and I were both born in LA in the same year and I really like Ohtani but I don't think he's going to be an Angel for long and in the end I decided to go NW local. I also looked hard @ the Rays because I admire how they are perennially competitive despite their relatively low salary and TB is my initials 😆. Speaking of purism: stop fucking with baseball! The rule next year forbidding shifts is ridiculous. They should play wherever the hell is most strategic and if it's causing you grief as a hitter then learn to go opposite field. Adapt. Although I suppose the shift is a relatively recent phenomenon so I dunno. Seems like they are trying to make the game more offensively oriented and for me a 1-0 pitcher's duel is a thing of beauty. So crack a cold one Al, there is one less Dodgers fan 🍻

  4. Going to build an outdoor version of this. Found some 8/4 Sapele for most of the build but trying to come up with an outdoor wood for the accent slats. White Oak? Any other ideas?

  8. The Salzburg Recital (Live) Evgeny Kissin 2022 https://album.link/i/1630346272 Example: Kissen doing Kissen things - and that is a good thing. Interesting how he can make Gershwin sound like a Russian composer. But most of the performance is really good and a nice simple clean DG recording.

  9. If Not For You (Deluxe Edition / Remastered 2022) Olivia Newton-John 1971 https://album.link/i/1641384228 Example: Before she was physical. Early and a bit rough Olivia. I can appreciate some of the gems in there but a typical covers album for a young talent.

  10. Yes, set up a LLC with the Secretary of State, get an EIN, and get an account with you state sales tax devision. Also look up any other county/city licensing requirements. Probably could skip everything minus the EIN but if you want to stay safe with the local government I would do it all. Keep in mind you do have to be a profitable business in the eyes of the IRS. I believe you have 5 years to be profitable. Otherwise they will consider it a hobby and want their $.

  11. Also in the absence of real diners, looking for a restaurant open weird hours, with a variety of items on the menu (last weeks favorite may be hated this week), and both a discounted kids menu and truly kids friendly (that was a learning experience)… well, the options narrow quickly. Basically Esmé popped and my relationship to Denny’s did a 180. And yes, also problematic Black Bear is preferred, though you lose the hours.

  12. CRCW2512475KFKEG which is same series as the original and so is 500V 1W and 475K should be fine in this application and is in stock at mouser.... lets say the resistor has the full 500V across it - which is worst possible case, V/R = I so the current through the bleed resistor would be 500/475000 = 0.00105A power dissipation in the bleed resistor would be W = I * V = 0.00105 * 500 = 0.53W and so well within the 1W capacity of the resistor... if the resistor has less than the full 500V across it the power dissipation will be less...

  13. I think the more interesting question is why are you eating at Denny's?

  14. Also why is the seniors discounted menu at Denny's basically the children's menu? Mmm jr. grilled cheese.

  18. I love her so much. I used to sing along with her so much, I could probably cover Winter Kills, All Cried Out, This House (except I need to work on those high "oo-oo"'s) and...uh...I forget the fourth one. I have everything from Steal Me Blind through Where Hides Sleep memorized, is probably any of those. It's always 4 songs -- 4 by Black Sabbath, 4 by Blue Oyster Cult, 4 by Golden Earring...yeah yeah I know, my boomer is showing. 🤪

  19. Love her too....amazing talent, and powerful voice. Her version of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" eclipses Roberta Flack's by a good margin for me, and that version was already fantastic. On a side note, amazing that the song was written by Ewan MacColl, amazing himself, and father to the ever-lovely Kirsty MacColl (RIP).

  22. Don't romanticize that 5D Classic too much. 😜I bought one recently and headed out this morning for the second time to find the OVF looked like I was looking through a periscope. I guess there are disadvantages to having a 12lb mirror slapping around in there as the focusing screen was trying to escape. Don't take the advantages of mirrorless for granted folks! And as you mentioned the M240, you know when I was most satisfied with its default colors? The last test shots in a parking lot as I was showing it was working properly to its new buyer. I took some of my favorite early pandemic shots with it, all monochrome, but was preoccupied with digital medium format at the time. 🤦‍♂️ That sale led to the SL though, whose default colors I loved immediately. It has a look, that was unfortunately eliminated in the SL2 (the SL2-S is rumored to be in between, but I have my doubts). I'm sure it could be integrated into other systems more easily and better edited from a more neutral starting point, but it does seem that something special was eliminated. I certainly can understand if you also struggle with it. A lot of complaints online. Still there are options (I'm looking into Cobalt) and besides the IBIS and video functionality you mentioned, the Monochrome High Contrast profile and highlight weighted metering are pluses of the recent Leicas including the SL2. EDIT: Anyway fixed the 5DC before a little art & wine fest this weekend...

  23. Your L3 & DSHA-4 are really the two amps that brought out better "headstage" out of my HD800 & R10 and really make them to compete with the 007/009 for me. I agree with Steve that the K1000 has widest soundstage, but the Qualia is the best at depth cues and second at the width so it really enhance the illusion of being "there" despite its rather odd tonal balanced. Plus the K1000 is more of a stationary listening device....you really can't move around the house with those. I really enjoyed the Utopia when I had mine, but treble was a little much for me and I preferred just a little more headstage out of them. I really can't fault the Utopia on anything else...maybe on how heavy it is. The HD800 SDR mod is actually the headphone that I use the most. It fits my lifestyle better for fraction of the price. It is my all around beater headphones. I toss it in my backpack and take it to work on a daily basis. It sounds great out of my mod Sony NW-ZX507 and glorious out of Doug ECP L3/DSHA-4.
